This past Saturday in Mashpee Commons, something simple, but important happened.
It wasn’t a postcard day; but honestly, it might have been the nicest Saturday we’ve seen since last spring. Patches of sun broke through just enough to remind you that Cape Cod has a way of delivering when it counts. The kind of day that makes you glad you didn’t talk yourself out of going outside.
And people didn’t.
From 10:30 in the morning until just after 2 o’clock — when I finally had to let the last few stragglers know, gently, that the bunny had punched out for the day- families filled the Commons square. Kids danced. Parents settled in. Lines formed. And what struck me most was how patient everyone was. Waiting to see the Easter Bunny, taking their time, letting the kids have their moment.
We gave away all 500 chocolate eggs from Ghelfi’s Candies. Every single one.
On the Village Green, dogs mixed and mingled after their Easter egg hunt, tails wagging, owners laughing-the kind of scene that reminds you exactly why people love being here.
It felt like community. And honestly-it felt like a turning point.
