had a visual I just had a visual I proud of it hold on hello welcome to Monday show I've got Amy Carol on the show with me this morning thank you so much for dealing with Technologies I'm glad I figured it out oh my god well I'm in Berlin right now so it's like 1:30 in the afternoon I've already done like 400 steps I've marched all over I probably shouldn't say that I've walked all over Berlin this morning so yeah it's pretty wild I'm here um taking a few minutes I had a conference in Dublin a few days ago and so I've got my family with me and we were like let's hop on the train Let's Go Places wow kicking off our summer and style which is why I'm not going to be at Hench Fest and I'm really upset about it because this is the second year in a row I missed it it is the second year in a row we're really excited um I Heard a kitty in the background I'm very excited it pops up on the screen and they know I'm not paying attention to them so they may involve themselves in the interview we'll see what they do well apart from all of the paving that's going on on Cape Cod and great whites and all of the other stuff like I alluded to Hench Fest is coming up this weekend maybe we start at the beginning um Amy and maybe talk a little bit about Mark Mark Hennessy oh my Mark um so Mark was my partner of 23 years um and he was a resent on Cape Cod he was a brother a son a dad which he was very proud of um and he was a well-known musician on Cape Cod that was his primary um profession um besides being a soccer referee um and he started playing music a really long time ago when he was nine years old he was influenced by the Jazz musicians that would play at his family's restaurant which was Hennessy steak house inout out dennisport Dennis y um and he just loved music he didn't read music um so he was all self-taught by you know by ear listening um and he was in all sorts of bands on Cape Cod um the Hennessy Brothers he played with his brother Michael and Bobby and Willie and hen house was one tequila Mocking Bird he played a lot with Jack um and the more recent um Slackers yeah party scene Cape Cod Slackers at at all the clubs and rooms on Cape Cod he played it mostly every room on Cape Cod um and you know he just shared his musical Talent with everybody if you met Mark once he made you feel like he was his friend and that Talent reached as far as Florida and bermont and different islands in the Caribbean um St Croy um Nea Island Grand Cayman Island he played and was fortunate enough to go down and and share his talent with those people and I remember he would kind of be like scuffling around before we would go down to neas and I'm like what are you doing and he would say oh I just got to run to Charlie's music I need to pick up a case of drumsticks and a case of um guitar strings and he would bring them down to the Musicians down there and hand them out to the musicians in the islands because nevas is this really small underdeveloped island and um they didn't have a a music store and it took days and weeks and months to get anything delivered from Amazon they'd have to go over to St kits so he brought them um strings and guitar guitar strings and guitar parts and and and that was Mark right so that's that was Mark and if you ask anybody they say he the nicest guy I've ever met really and just like so chill like just cool as a cucumber always me a little bit I'm like can't you get fired up about something like really it's it was almost unnerving like there's a fire and he's like all right well about the Celtics that's what you would yeah right yeah too funny and it well yeah we're not even gonna talk about that right now I afraid I'm afraid if I say it out loud things will go bad I know so we don't right I know um so just an allaround amazing human being and I think you know yesterday being dad's day definitely um a heavy Monday yeah yeah definitely I reached out to his daughter and I just said oh you know I'm thinking of you sending you love on Dad's day Father's Day yeah and that space of grief it like it just never goes away it just I mean how are you doing right now Amy where are you um I cycle I cycle and I know when I'm cycling um the Hennessy Fest Music Festival is a really good distraction yeah totally and we're always Fast and Furious right around that anniversary of when he passed which was May 6 Mark had um was diagnosed with multiple Myoma on the day after Christmas of 2018 and he talk about put up a fight I mean this guy just went about it he had every treatment there was he was in a clinical trial at Dana Farber where I had to live up in Boston with him for a couple of months in a in a hotel room and um he just put on a good face and just made the best of it really up until the very end and you know when he was told there were no more options um his doctor who I called The Godfather Dana Farber um said you know what can I do for you and he said I really want to play this last gig at Cape Cod beer and he like looked and got all scientific and he goes I think I think that we can make that happen for you and so he paired Dana Farber paired with Cape Cod hospital um and God shout out to those people they are amazing amazing amazing souls and um they kept him alive for his last show which sounds really eerie but um you know when that was all said and done and we weren't sure like he was getting IV steroids and um and fluids 15 minutes before he got on the stage at they wild yeah his nurses opened up and went in on a Saturday morning it's what he lived for it was it was his time yeah and then he played at Cape Cod beer and it was a beautiful sunny day in in April and um so many it was like a word of mouth thing because we weren't sure if it was actually G to happen and all these people showed up and it was a beautiful day and he said that was one of the most rewarding days of my life to me as we left there and he um got home and two weeks to the day he passed away so yeah heavy it's heavy it's heavy stuff it is but I mean you're doing this this celebration yeah yeah and I told him I said this is what I want to do and he's like yeah yeah yeah okay and I'm like no no like this is like I really want to kind of you know keep your name alive and your spirit alive and and when we started and my goal was to do it within the first year of his passing so um so we and my board myself my board um who are I love your board by the way Jen everybody's wonderful God my board oh my board of directors are amazing um yeah and shout out to them so Jen da Stephanie Salada Lori Sullivan Jimmy Mullen Dr k um and Leanne Anderson from from Cape CER amazing are my peeps um and we started the mar Hennessy Foundation we just um became nonprofit so we have our 501 um C3 and yeah we're ready we're ready to rock and roll So speaking of rock and roll when's the party what's going on I love the lightup this year very excited it's so exciting um so our second annual Hennessy Fest is at Cape cop beer on Saturday this Saturday June 22nd from 12: to 8 um it's going to be a real really really really great day the weather is supposed to be beautiful last year last year was downpouring and freezing um our auction items our raffle items are just above and beyond this year and we are just really really really looking forward to it so we have um Fitzy strings is gonna play with good old Hollywood Mark's Park um and we're gonna have dirty water dance band and Nikki Nikki and the barn boys and cind and crooked Coast is going to be our headliner this year so we're really excited I love my boys from crooked Coast very much I thought it was a really good choice to have them headlining this year we're so glad they were available yeah right Cheryl Emily you guys thank you so much for joining us on the show I've got Amy Carol the president of the mark Hennessy foundation and we just talked a little bit about Mark his life what a cool cat he was a great music he played and Hench Fest which is coming up where do people get tickets so cape beer.com you can get tickets if you scroll to their events page um and they're also for sale on event prite and it's a big fun day it starts at noon goes on until 8 o'clock at night and you're just cycling through bands there plenty of beer um what have we got for food um we have a barbecue truck we have Ben and& Jerry's is going to be there we got some Shuckers that are going to be on hand for rawar um so yeah we're psyched now beside the auction items and all the really cool stuff in the community that you've built from this Fest maybe you can talk about the foundation itself and what it goes to help because it's just really awesome yeah so the mark Hennessy Foundation um is a nonprofit organization it supports we support and provide opportunities to music students establish musicians on Cape Cod and um anybody that's really looking to further their music careers through education empowerment Innovation and really celebration um so you know we understand that there's a lot of really musically talented individuals out there that may be restricted um due to financial hardship lack of support um it could be an injury and you know they may not be able to have the means to obtain proper music equipment um and where they're to support and advocate for those individuals by assisting them either financially academically or spiritually it's really incredible what you do and I think musicians all you know that starving artist hungry musicians is really a true thing and you're only as good as your last gig sometimes and a lot of musicians are out there hustling to to pay the rent and we know that those are big right now so this is an amazing thing that you do and it goes along with Mark's Mission I mean bringing strings and drumsticks it's exactly exactly yeah so you know that's what we're looking for you know if if if anybody has any anybody in mind you know it could be a stu a music student or anything like that that really can't doesn't have the you know the means to have something we'd really enjoy for you to reach out to us and have a conversation because that's what we want to do and that's what we're all about anything else you want to say about Mark or the weekend or any any ways or things that you think people should know yeah we're just super super excited I miss him we miss him we miss him our community misses him um just keep talking about him that's what keeps a Spirit Alive um and it doesn't bother me bring them up call me if you have a memory or anything like that um and I really really hope to see everybody at Hennessy Fest it's going to be a really fun day I you can grab your tickets I put information on the organization and everything in
