melody tent for Gavin de gr she had to work and I was just looking at all the traffic I was going to be it on the way home and I'm like I live here now I wish I brought my laptop because I would have popped over somewhere and like done work yeah and just waited it out I think every cap cutter needs to like plan when you leave the house for anything to happen yeah I was coming back from hyanis yesterday and there was like no traffic that's so nice I was like where's everybody right where are you guys at you're like wondering did the apocalypse finally happen nobody called me nobody came nobody came to get me I'm just hanging out a Trader Jo here to live by myself forever fine perfect it's fine I'll be fine you'll take a minute so Jen introduce yourself and what you're here to talk about today because I know you had your eforall hat on last time and I think we'll always wear our eforall hats by the way how many days are we away oh we are less than two weeks away from deadline for applications bring on your fall entrepreneurs I want them um yeah we are I will be in Orleans this afternoon from 2: to 4: if anyone down that neck of the woods has questions they want answered about the eforall program oh good um I'll be at Snow's Library so please come and visit me and now take that hat off did my due diligence and I will put my car seat Mama hat on uh so I am Jen Christian and I am car seat Mama um I started this Venture seven years ago almost eight years ago it's really been that long H it's been that long yeah and I started it as a little baby Hobby and um all my friends and family and really my therapist were like hey girl this is ain't a hobby this is a business and so I found e forall and I did a pitch contest and the judges were like yeah girl you got a business you get sucked in good morning Miss Jara happy Friday to you yes so I got sucked into the fun of it and uh created a business and then at the end of my year with E forall I said to my mentors I said uh I think this is a nonprofit yeah and so I'm excited to share that we are now nonprofit so we are accessible to everyone you worked on that for quite a bit yeah it took almost a year yeah for that to go through um but we're here and we are ready to share our car seat knowledge and safety with all of Cape Cod and Beyond I remember working I think it was even a stuffa bus at one point where you were talking about car seats then like it was it's always been something that you like were very passionate about making sure the safety is is right yeah and that's actually why I went for the certification to become a car seat technician was because I was the go-to like oh ask Jen she knows she's she knows she's up on her car seat knowledge and so actually a meme came across my Facebook feed and it was a dog in a car seat and I was like oh that chest clip is too high and then I was like Jen that's a dog I have problem so I was like let me see how I become yeah so I was like let me see how I become a car SE technician and so I took the course and became a technician and then just volunteered which by the way it's a lot of work and um The Sweat mustache that happens when you've got 90 degree temperatures and little people that are like clamoring to get in and out of things and you're trying to make sure that that's right not only that then add in if you're working with expectant parents and you're like listen we're going to let your partner do all the work because we're not having you go into labor trying to put in this car SE right so yeah I I mamas that are pregnant during the summer I love you I feel for you yeah I had a September baby so I feel for you yeah you you were there for the whole thing at the very end not exactly super fun so yeah so that's who I am that's what we do um I know that lemonade has their own nonprofit but I'm just going to throw my you can go to car seat mama.org donate we would love to have any donations that can come in Hey listen we all do our little part to get stuff done and if you've got a passion for for kids and safety and and it's something that speaks to you you donate to that I think it's important to there's room for all of us there is room for all of us absolutely 2,000 nonprofits on the C we should everybody should be doing really well right now yes yes so um yeah you can find me online on Facebook on Instagram um I work closely with Cape Cod Healthcare um and yeah I have done seat checks from Kingston to Wellfleet so really there is no what's too far for me to go to help a caregiver you know if you need help I also do them virtually if you want to do a virtual session um that's great because we do have a lot of listeners that Bop in from anywhere Florida California Midwest you never know who's going to jump on the show Good Morning Melissa I love the car seat Mama I love you Melissa Melissa is a phenomenal Foster mama oh she really is she does such amazing human being I don't know how you keep going girl but you do and she's always doing it with a smile and she's fun it's like No Nonsense about it like it doesn't make you feel like I'm changing the world we all know those people that when they do something thing it's a grandio big deal yeah Melissa is not she's like what are you DB to do I'm just going to do it and it's going to be done no fuss no M Yep this is the way it is absolutely yeah it's pretty fantastic um so you're here with this nonprofit yep and she brought in some props we did bring props so first and foremost best name Ever So this little fella here this is Carson and he is my car son and my 16-year-old named him so which was perfect props to Maddie I feel like I was in one of those eall piges where you just dropped it and I was like that is amazing yep so that's Carson and then we are all about inclusivity so we have our um other raced baby I love it hanging out in his car seet so he's got his chest clip is at the appropriate level can't pinch any webbing so he's in here nice and snug and this guy got his name at one of our um uh teaching events at Cape cot Healthcare and his name is utto I love it OT perfect so those are those are my two friends I bring them with me when I do seat checks for expectant parents so that they have that opportunity to Buckle in a baby so that they can get used to that process as well yeah one that's not moving yes while you're not trying to squish clothing and their skin and whatever it else while they're throwing their head back yes arching their backpack all that good stuff uh Tanya said that's her baby oh she's not wrong my baby she loves her babies good morning Miss Lori we've got Jen Christian on the show this morning our car seat mama what is the most frequent question you get asked oh gosh what's the best seat and I hate that question because I really do I have seats that I love sure absolutely but as a technician the best seat is the one that we are using correctly is installed correctly fits your car fits your budget fits your baby so for your vehicle that may be a safety first for my vehicle it may be a Britex there is no there is no best seat okay um are there seats that when caregivers tell me this this is the seat we're putting in I sweat a little extra I'm like oh do you sell your seat isn't in a box yeah but that's that's a good thing to say to people I think everybody's looking for the easiest the best the most protective I mean that's why we read reviews that's and it's so stressful as a new mom where you're like this is where my tiny I'm me trusting that my tiny human is going to be safe in this so I can tell you that for my daughter for travel we have a $60 car seat and that seat is one that I trust and it is safe and it was $60 her regular everyday car seat was almost $500 you know they you pay for extras you pay for additional safety features you pay for um Fabrics that aren't treated with any kind of um flame retardant because they're naturally flame retardant woolves um that's interesting yeah and at the end of the day any seat that is from a reputable brand that is sold in the United States has to meet the same safety minimums so all car seats are the safest okay good good answer yeah see that takes the stress out of it just a little bit and I'm sure just hearing that yeah you got $150 wor car seat great you have $550 wor car seat great whatever fits your budget is going to be safest for your child as long as you are installing it correctly and using it correctly now I know that the fire departments and there are other people that do routine checks every once in a while and there's an opportunity if you're struggling cost wise to upgrade or to not use the one from your prior baby that might be expired right because car seats expire so car seats are left in our vehicles so they are exposed to the 90 degree heat the negative2 degree cold um so that plastic is really put through it and the materials will break down over time time so car seats do expire um so it's important to know when yours expires so that you are no longer using it um the rule of thumb is six years although some manufacturers do have a 10-year um Lifetime on there so knowing your expiration date is important um where was I going with that expiration dates Boop it's gone it's Friday sounds like me with Friday fire extinguisher alarm things that's what you said yes so the old adage was oh go to the fire department they'll help you install it so not every police or fire department has technicians on hand right we are really lucky on the cape um Barnstable police department has a wonderful presence um and they do seat checks um pretty regularly sandwich has a couple of technicians um on hand that I've talked to kuit has a couple of technicians on hands that I've talked to um one of my goals this year is as the year is coming to an end but one of my goals for the upcoming foreseeable future is I would like to create a um a spreadsheet of all the technicians across the cape so when caregivers contact me I can say oh you've got Jeff at um Dennis fire you can go and visit him Jeff lowsky we love you yes yep um and so you know if I I don't I'm all about accessibility right like it's not about like oh you have to see car seat Mama yeah you know I want there to be those other options um so that is one of my goals so if anybody has an in with any of the municipalities send them my way so that we can start creating that spreadsheet yeah I love that that's a really good resource for people because once again when you're a new parent or about to be a new parent there's so many things that you're worried about right absolutely so many things it shouldn't be safety no and the whole like oh the the social media shaming that happens like just do yourself a favor and don't post pictures of your baby in a car seat that's number one advice when did we become this good morning Sheamus and Jamie hate bath thanks for joining us on the show Sheamus is my husband oh so cute hi Husband what support appreciate you tuning in from work I won't tell anyone kid I just told the all of the my husband never watches me so it's fine I don't I don't ever get that support he's like yeah yeah she's down there are you done yet although if it's broken he'll monitor it so that that's fair good good good good yeah we have become this Society of just shamers I don't know what the deal is there but not cute no don't put anything on social stress it's not fair I saw somebody fight somebody yesterday about I don't even know what it was oh that they weren't happy about a sandwich oh my I'm not kidding you so there was a particular sandwich place the woman said I've been going here for 20 years I've always get this for breakfast you know I opened up the thing and the it was soggy so I went back to return it and the lady was like no you can't return it uh that's the way it is like she's not the owner or the manager or anything she's just a worker yeah so then you know just trying to do her job right like whatever this is all I know all I know is if you've opened it up then the other people are like but how would you know it was Sagi if you didn't open it up and it just devolved into the I know the owner and they would never allow this and blah blah blah blah and you need to check yourself before you did this and this poor woman was just like I was I was just disappointed in a sandwich tell your girlfriends shoot a text message to your girlfriends and be like girl look at this ugly sandwich don't post it on Facebook don't post it on the town Pages we don't want this the food police will come for you don't do it they will they absolutely will it's true that dining one they very rabid over there uh good morning Miss Emily we've had a long week at the barn boka fair but it's been super fun we really enjoyed um the car crashes you must be like oh God s right no babies were harmed in the demolition derby we're all good they were on the sidelines everybody was watching safely they don't even have windshields you know it's funny because this is the perfect point to bring up it's relevant um we would all be safer if we wore fiveo harnesses there you go so um not demolition drivers but maybe they do also they have to wear the five harness yeah so race car drivers have to wear the five-point harness and it just distributes the crash forces over more areas than just the seat Bel interesting but yeah you you see them strapping in there they take a minute especially when their car's on fire to get out of that yeah but that did in fact happen yeah I used to go to the demo JY I don't go anymore Five Point harnesses for all everyone yes we've got opening day of the Paris Olympics there's already some some drama there's always drama uh apparently there was like calculated coordinated arson attacks trains right yeah it's the frenches problem yeah I was excited to see Lady Gaga and Seline Di and then I saw that opening ceremonies are at 1:30 and it's like the the worst time of day that's nap time it's the time a day where I forget everything I should be working out I should be having lunch what I mean I'm wrapping up morning projects I feel like 1:30 is just the time for me to absolutely forget it and even though I'll make a mental note I'll put a note in my phone I will forget to watch this we're talking about it right now and yeah gone by 1:30 it'll be 2:30 and I'm like oh yeah I forgot that it's not it's just a time of day I can't remember catch the Recaps on Tik Tok it'll be fine exactly I'm going to watch the other natural disastrous on Tik Tok like everybody else gosh yeah you were talking about the Bingo lady yes so there's a lady on so this is so funny so it's not funny it is funny um so scroll on Tik Tok as I do and this lady showed her 2024 bingo card which have you seen these like people will come up with like Bingo cards and like they'll pick like obscure things well I mean our Cape Cod bingo card has been pretty full this year with random shark attacks uh what else to be have we had the the uh Flamingo that wasn't supposed to be here I mean we've had the orcas yeah so she filled out this um bingo card and she has all these different things from like celebrity things to natural disasters to King Charles in a box if you catch my Dess yeah um and so she came on and um it was after the ass assassination attempt and she was like listen like if my bingo card could stop being accurate that'd be great and then she went on to share what was on the rest of her bingo card and one of them was Yellowstone explosion and the day before it was the day before so now it's like all over Tik Tok like this lady knows what's happening she's she's a Seer she's manifesting everybody's drama yes so could she manifest me some money please manifest all the money please yes I need to get through this month yes um but when I saw the Yellowstone footage oh my gosh like people I've never seen people move slower in my entire life you just watched an explosion like they're sitting there Frozen in time watching it happen like Disney fireworks girl run those are rocks those things are going to be coming at you in about 3 seconds what are you doing and it was just so slow for them to realize run by run I mean walk slowly kind of backwards kind of not wait a minute this is going to hit us Mel like not moving not smart not the smartest tools in the shed people taking videos taking screenshots looking selfies and then the rock started falling and then the Rocks started falling and it was time to go yeah nice not cute not cute this is real life stuff I think that we get disconnected yes it was the one time where my son was safely in a car seat and we were in the back seat and he was looking out the window and he tried to zoom in the glass to look at something closer yeah from his car seat window and I'm like we are done with screens you are to for this but it's like that disconnect of what's real life like you buddy you're not zooming in on real life I poor Cody I feel like we've all been there where we're like oh let me zoom in on this book it's a book good morning Lauren I know our brains we got to fix them seriously happy Friday to you have a great one um oh had to do the Chinese fire drill Sheamus said good morning Mary Jane happy anniversary Dave hegner 50 years of anniversary hey that's cool I said today what is like the biggest thing that's happened to you in 2024 um and you started your nonprofit I started my nonprofit and then I went and bought myself a Disney annual pass and I've been three or four times already this year another trip planned for September you really love it there huh I'm healing my childhood trauma maybe because I went a lot when I was a kid yeah see I never the first time I went was as a nanny at 20 years old oh so yeah it was pretty magical to you then yep and then the next time we went Maddie was two so we got to bring our youngest our oldest at our youngest but they're getting better about things they they're adding more to the magic I think they're bringing it a little bit more current I know that they've updated a few things that have needed to be updated for a real long time I will tell you I sat through so I just did a solo trip which is crazy yeah yep went without kids just by myself um and I sat through the Hall of Presidents yeah never watched that before oh never watching it again but but I did it so speaking of need updates like my mother was one of those people that is like spre we're doing this we're doing this we're doing this you can have a bathroom break when I get to it at 11:21 oh we have a we have a lunch at here we're going to go here like this I did not enjoy going to Disney when I I used to do it and I felt like school yeah now we roll with it we did the president's often she did like the hoop-de-doo revieww which is still fun I haven't done that really good there there's no trick to the can can I still sing that song since I was like five years old I love it the food is actually good it's actually like a good deal all right and I just saw some people that are like professional Disney writers about this is the food you should have and this is the place you should go and she still put it on the top five wow all right I'm adding it I will add it she likes I love the show it's a it's a show you get a hearty meal DIN and a show who doesn't love that time and I like the can can girls perfect I really did noted all right all right I've wanted a ruffle skirt to do the can can ever since somebody get Stephanie a ruffly skirt please please and thank you there's probably one for sale at the Barnesville County Fair good morning will joining us from the West Coast how the hell early what you're still up uh Erin good morning to you uh good morning Lauren rtb and you won't get pinched by shoulders from the crash oh the fivepoint harness correct yep Dave hegner says seems like 70 years you guys are too young for celebrating your 50th Anniversary but cheers to you we've got our anniversary coming up our anniversary it'll be our 21st anniversary it's our anniversary can drink so uh oh ours ours can buy lottery tickets and vote this year it's big ears what's up Miss mag mag Herington oh Meg hey girl we love her I remember you too speaking of fam right oh yes so maybe talk a little bit about your journey this year and and now you've got the nonprofit yeah and um what what do you have what is this manual oh so this is this is my latch manual this just comes with me everywhere so this if I get what vehicle do you have Stephanie I have a Kia Soul I opened right up tea that's no you did not I did I did oh but this is the third row so hold hold on yeah there's there's no Row in that car no if you could get a s car seat safely in that car I'd be surprised I feel like a crash test D me in that car if it's just like a little Matchbox car that could although it does fit all my equipment at it safely so all right so I can tell you with your Kia Soul that you have two full latch systems so that is the lower anchors and the top tether those things always drove me crazy yep you have each seating position has a top tether so you could use a forward- facing seat in all three of your seating positions look at that Tiny But Mighty Tiny But Mighty um so this is cool this just kind of gives me an overview of where um best placements for car seats are a lot of parents want to put that car seat in the middle because it's fur this from All Points of impact yeah but vehicles are made for adults and so a lot of those middle seats will have a big hump or they'll have the cup holder that comes down a lot of things will interfere with getting a proper install in that middle position um so knowing where we have the lower anchors and the tether in the vehicle before I come out um is super beneficial so that's actually one of the things so when you set up an appointment with me you go to my calendly app and it sets up an appointment that's free on my calendar and then you fill out a Google form and that form tells me what vehicle it's going into what car seat you're using age height and weight of your child if what do we do before Google oh man right man yeah so then I get to do my homework before I come out and see you so I know oh graos are terrible in Toyotas they're not that's just me giving an example don't that again not use that against me um graos are great in Toyota but um you know I I can ahead of time like oh this Britex isn't great for pries so if your baby is under six pounds like you may not get a proper fit whatever um throwing out like way too many to Emily wants to know can you do a 2022 Santa Fe I can I can we can we can totally play this game she can put a car seat in like what like if she needs to oh yeah anywhere anywhere she'll put a car seat in anywhere yes I will figure f it out and you know what's freaking me out is the babies in these this car thing I'm like they're watching me they're watching me uh so many years of what year 22 2022 okay so that's a third row so hold on look at this one so you have your second row you have the full latch system in your outboard seating and you have a tether anchor in your Center for your second row and in your third row there is no latch but you do have three tether anchors um for your back seats so you can get a done so there you go so forward-facing kiddos can go anywhere um you've got plenty of tether anchors Carson is a rear facer only only he's only sorry guys you can only have this side of Carson you get his back Lauren goes is that Carson I was like yes of course I brought poor Carson's just resting on top of aot right now yeah Carson can hang with us you didn't know what you were G to get into this morning did you babies and Beyond this is good though because I I had a chat yesterday with our friends over at Mash P TV yeah and I'm going to be sharing some of these episodes with mash P TV and I think that this is a really good one just because it's great for people to have resources and just be able to ask questions there was a question yesterday we had on the show such a good question so Hank organically brought up right um about his granddaughter and wanting to ride in the front seat and how she's 12 and now there's not necessarily a law that says that we have to be in the back seat but if you flip down your visor it will say children 13 and under or under 13 are safest in the back seat um and the reason for that is yes our 12-y olds are taller than our 78 year olds at this point but our 12y olds have 12-y old bones so when we are born and this is this is my Geek Side coming out you sit back Carson love this all right bye Carson so when when babies are born their vertebrae are in three bone segments and they're connected with cartilage and through the oifc process love it the bones become one hard piece right and that doesn't happen until somewhere between 3 to seven years old so that is why we are we have that science behind us that says let's keep them rear-facing as long as possible um the state of massachusett does not have a rear facing car seat law we are actively advocating for it to become a law so that we can join the other 25 plus states that have a rear facing until to law um the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you continue to rear face until at least the age of two longer that's weird to me that we're not there on that list Massachusetts is first for so many things like how do we not have an appropriate car seat law yeah that's weird we're working on it we're working on it um so with rear facing you protect that head neck and spine so it's cradled down into the seat so keeping them rear facing longer is your best option when you go forward facing you want to make sure you're using that tether keeping them harnessed as long as possible maxing out the height and weight is most important um because that's that was always the big question but I'm big enough I'm tall enough I weigh enough old enough yeah I'm old enough it was always like that struggle as a parent and especially when you have a bunch like we had three children under five so it was always like which is the better way to go so I think my biggest message is it's not a Race So with every step forward in car seat safety is one step backwards in safety yeah so rear facing absolutely safest if adults could be rear facing we would be safer I would like that that way I wouldn't have to drive drive me around and I don't have to look at anybody count me out I want to be rear facing it's for my safety so then we transition to forward facing in a fivepoint harness and like we talked about you get to evenly distribute those crash forces across Five Points and then we transition to a seat belted booster which the boosters help keep that seat belt across the big heavy bones so across our hip and across our shoulder blade here um because vehicles are made for adult bodies they're not made for kid bodies and so I don't even know if they're made for adult bodies around the cap on the amount of accidents we've been having lately it has been an absolute disaster scary out there on the road cuz no one's paying attention nobody pay yesterday 151 was shut down just shut down because somebody backed into a boat or hit a boat not backed into but hit a boat just we got enough problems with the fair going on right now we don't need you back backing into a boat for the natural resources department it was actually a police boat no excuse zero excuses zero excus it was so funny because the lady behind him said to her husband that guy's gonna hit somebody because he's not paying attention you know when you see people that are just not paying attention on the road good morning Dan how are you in the midwest I got a horror movie question for you in a little bit so hold that H and good morning Thomas how are you today we're talking with Jen Christian car seat mama and we're just talking about general safety we just covered why it's best to be rear facing and that's good to know about your spine is not hard enough until past seven your body's just not big enough yeah to answer Hank's question when that airbag comes out it comes out with such Force yeah that it's made for if You' never been hit by an airbag yeah yeah so keeping our kids in the back seat until their 13th birthday that you know when puberty you know solidifies their Bon yeah that's good to know and it's just a good frame of reference and you can tell the kids your bones aren't strong enough yet I drink milk but at least it'll be a dialogue and at least you're giving them the right answers yes and the question that I hate getting and I'm just gonna say it good I hate getting oh well I'm 4 foot eight should I be in a booster seat these are from adults say this and it's like no Sarah because you have adult bones you have adult bones and your adult bones are going to do just fine you're just short yeah exactly my mother-in-law is five 49 yeah so yeah because in in massachus it's our law as it is on the books is you must be in a approved child restraint for until the age of eight or 4 foot n in I feel like I should be restrained forever so so that's the topic for another day take me away please um so movies Dan you are our resident um horror movie he's got a great podcast out there if you like horror movies you're gonna toss this at him as a horror movie no um rtb said he went and saw long legs and he said it wasn't good he was disappointed H have you seen it yet do you know anything about it is it good what was your take on it I don't like horror movies I I don't they're not fun for me I like like older horror movies not not maybe not so much like slasher like all the blood and guts but the so predictable nature of don't go up there Becky right why are you doing that Becky you know what's up there you just stay under the couch and no one's going to know you're here and you get to live to the end of the movie yeah right but then the movie would end after three minutes so I guess that would be it on to the next house exactly so I don't know if you had any anything to input on that and I'm sure RTV would like to know what yours was but he said it stunk he was unhappy with it it can't be as bad as what we watched this morning that they said they are going to be putting on the big screen this is for the Ohio rizzler the alpha oh my God I don't even know Sigma the sigma hair in my house how are they making a skimy toilet Movie Stop he may come to the big screen Adam Goldberg you are the problem stop making it stop it in its tracks acceptable do not feed this do not I can't hear it anymore long legs is a horror movie of the year unsettling not gory Nicholas Cage was so good Silence of the Lamb's Vibes this is coming from Dan this is coming from Dan all right so now you've made me want to watch it because rtb said no Dan says yes and I will probably need your own opinion I'll fall somewhere in the middle most likely yep I'm just very curious but the the horror movie of the year huh wow all right it was crap rtb is standing strong that's it it's not moving on us I I like being a little Nicholas Cage I feel like he's just crazy enough that that could be his real life yeah yep is that the vibe it gives because if that is I believe it all right he kind of scares me as a human so we're gonna we're gonna come back we're both gonna go see it and then we're gonna come back and we're gonna talk about it we got a date Jen we got a date perfect oh my God uh there's so many crazy things going on in the world as we were talking crazier than skib toilet to the screen um well since we're talking about we were talking earlier about um our trains now we've had cars yeah planes um first off Southwest is first time in history the end of an era not having the cattle call giving you a sign seat I'm here for it I am a Southwest girl through and through but I like the luggage that's why I'm a Southwest girl you're telling me I can take two bags for free right yes it's worth the extra price yes even though when you do the math it's probably about the same but it's one less thing that I have to feel like I'm paying for afterwards absolutely so I do like the the baggage situation so getting rid of the cattle call situation I am here for that um it's always awkward when you're sitting like I will often travel with just one of my kids at a time and so we have that you know we leave the middle open everybody leaves the middle open no one wants the dang middle and then somebody will come along and they'll be like somebody sitting there and it's like son of a gun I know you're like yep we're moving over yeah I guess I know just all flights are full okay just plan for a full flight cuz you're going to have one it's just the way it is is it's the way of the world right and uh I saw that in Germany I was recently in Germany and we had an incident where they canceled one of our trains and an exat she is from Germany she's now living in London and she's like don't come here no you're like too late I'm already here she's like the travel is so bad here she goes if you want to get on anywhere on time you're never getting on time here she's like I don't know it's gotten worse they're just not dealing with it there's so many problems in this country this is why I can't stand it nothing's ever on time everything's always a problem she was one of those people that you just absorb the vibe she's putting down and it wasn't good I'll tell you that all right so let's let's let's mold that over for a minute would you take not ontime travel over everything that we deal with here in America because I would deal with some I don't know untrusted travel there was a situation yesterday where 140 flights were grounded in Germany oh my go they glued themselves to the runway climate change activists glued themselves to the runway in Germany what all right I take it back and 140 flights had to be cancelled nope this was one train that was canceled that I was dealing with the Mayhem of I can't imagine 140 flights of people to the lady I met in Germany who was upset about the one train I want your thoughts on this airplane debacle never travel through Germany oh man also as a climate activist do you feel that that made some changes or are you because 144 flights got grounded did that make a difference in the climate I this is the stuff that drives me crazy like when climate activists will go into an art museum and throw paint at them it's the same thing like I get you want to be noticed for your cause but what are you doing to further your cause there like what is the positive changes you're making there right right I'm not seeing it and this is the time of year where people go because there's so many tourists to Big places like this and cause a scene for their cause yep yep I just never it's like the kids that were always like the negative attention Seekers you're still out there because negative attention is still attention unfortunately it Garners more attention yeah because people are like look at this crazy over here I'm not crazy this is crazy look at this level of crazy look at this crazy this is even crazier than I'm crazy we as Society need to stop doing that yeah so let me take this as an opportunity to talk car seats on plane yes because I think it's important do I need one yes okay so an object in motion stays in motion we have been experiencing a lot of turbulence lately and as much as you may think that you can hold on to that baby in turbulence yeah that baby ain't staying in your lap so do yourself the favor as much as it sucks to have to Shell out another two three $400 for a seat on a plane bring your car seat strap that baby in they're going to sleep like nobody's business you're GNA have the peace of mind and also when you check a car seat I don't know if you've ever watched baggage handlers handle your baggage I feel like I just watched a Tik or another video like this is they did one from a compilation of all of the Airlines and how they handle their bags yeah y it's not pretty it's not pretty so they're gonna Chuck your car seat and you may show up at your destination and your straps are ripped and then guess what now you can't use your car seat you have to stay at the airport while your partner goes to the Walmart and buys a car seat yeah and you're stuck and then don't even get me started on renting car seats from car uh rental car about that because that seems like that would be a nice service those are disgusting of course they are of course you don't have to tell me you know what you're getting when you're getting a rental everybody yes and the car seats they're not cleaned properly um they are stored in stacks and some of them are just hosed down which we do not want to submerge the webbing yum yum and yeah it's just gross think about all the drool all the snacks all the stuff that you find underneath your car seat when you're cleaning your car no no you you totally Miss bodily fluids Stephanie that's the grossy that's somebody else's kids bodily fluids you don't want that do yourself the favor pay the extra price for the seat on the plane bring your car seat strap them in um I like the Costco Sara next is a wonderful lowcost lightweight it's between 50 and $60 Costco closer no no no no so it's not Costco it's Costco ah yes sold at Walmart and then they have a Costco finale which is a forward facing only that goes for about $60 those are my two go-to travel seats they're lightweight you can strap it on your back and haul it through the airport listen moms we're sure Pur that's what we do that is what we sign up for when we birth this baby you're not done carrying this baby when it comes out of you now you just externally carry this baby I appreciate that you're enjoying our show Dad even though it's about car seats you just never know what you're going to get when you in car Absol absolutely Michelle and Ellen thanks for joining us Sheamus says love you babe off to work all right go get it done thanks for hanging with us this morning we got Jen Christian our car seat mom here here talking about why you should not rent those car seats that come with the car companies even though it may seem like a convenience factor it's a gross factor it's it's a Nick factor of a billion red flag red flag so many yeah you Dro that on our Stephanie and the morning page as well we're just talking about big things that happen to you this year if you want to drop that today too and uh whatever you got going on this weekend don't forget to check our events calendar events on cape.com is hit up the Farmers Market on Sunday well we have a special guest coming to us Joe from the Bon sauce I met him at a farmers market convention I did I was like hey I I I like I like wings I like bone sauce so good but his is like no GMOs no corn um all of the junk that you have in food that corn syrup and all that stuff it's actually like amalgam butter that he does in a French cooking fashion so they're like yummy it's yummy wing sauce without garage Farmers Market this weekend if there's one time that you can make it you make it this Sunday and whether it's like you're just doing a drive-thru and going to another Festival because I know there's a lot of stuff going on this weekend stop for the wings yep I'm letting you know stop for the wings we've got um does he sell his sauce yes okay right so you can come in swing through grab the bone sauce and move on with your day and definitely if you've got time stop for the wings so so Tanya we have plans just like a hot minute come in grab a beer refill don't forget your sustainable cups thank you they support lemonade and um you get more you get three more ounces of beer or lemonade this week we'll have free lemonade with your purchase of your sustainable cup and bring it back every single week so we're not wasting so much plastic my kid took my cup and it lives in her dungeon I have to get another one yep that's fine it's for a good cause that's it I appreciate that and they're good they keep it cold it's that aluminum that keeps it nice and cold for a little longer so when you get it in your hand and you're like oh it is kind of cold that's kind of nice speaking of schlepping kids around I had this moment that I wanted to share with you because it was a car seat moment right when I first had McKenzie and this was quite a bit ago it was five years ago sure just right around the corner but my very Portuguese mother-in-law was like I hold the baby oh my mother-in-law Maria you're not holding the baby I hold the baby in the car yeah while you're driving yeah yeah no no no it's we've grown from the 70s we are not going to do that anymore I tell parents that they are most uncomfortable with their when we talk about rear facing and the legs are up the back of the seat they say oh they can't be comfortable they're comfortable that's all they know they will crisscross their legs it's us that are uncomfortable but more importantly it's the grandparents that are uncomfortable do you have a dialogue do you have a best practices something that's just like it's not me it's you it's the it's not the rules you every I just throw out the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that I keep my child rear facing until the age of two or they Max the height and weight of their rear-facing limits on their car seat everybody has a one mother-in-law father-in-law family member caregiver somebody that knows how to do it I've done it I've done this then you get the pedigree their parenting and how everybody to ride in the backseat of pickup trucks not the back seat the back we do it this way right in our house right there's also so many more people on the road than there were when our parents were bopping around in the back seat cars are bigger cars are bigger they're not made out of steel like they used to be they just crumble um yeah no I for rear facing you just throw that American Academy of Pediatrics says um that's my favorite one to throw out yeah um as far as keeping them harness it's you know this is what's safest for my child yeah I'm lucky that my husband's the grumpy one anyway so he doesn't mind delivering news to people that they aren't going to be unhappy with like Cliff you deal with that you're you're the mean one not me I will I will get friends who are like hey um can you talk to my mom yeah yeah it's hard yeah yep I've I've had the conversation with moms and grandmas and everyone in between yeah I've even got Emily now thank you Emily you're such an amazing in office person and she's really good she a little Nuggie right she does our our little mascot Savannah uh who looked so flipping cute she came to her first little demolition derby but I mean she's the one asking some some of these questions and she's really assertive when it comes to I need this this is this this is the R and it's really nice to have those people in my Vortex because it makes it just so much easier to just be like can you do could you go tell them the rules thank you yeah I have been know I get sick of saying them over and over and no one listens to me I feel like I'm white noise yeah I've been known to go up to people like in restaurants or at the mall or wherever and be like your chest clip is a little low yeah you're gonna want that at their armpit level you're not judging them you're not on social media telling people J exactly you're just like here we go we're going to move that up and that's safer and you have a nice day yep my I'm I'm going to say my number one but like I've already said that a hundred times but one of my go-to pieces of advice is when you are when you have your infant carrier this guy yeah and you're going grocery shopping that carrier needs to be in the big basket it does not go up on the toddler seat because you alter the um the not level of gravity yeah the yep you alter some stuff and uh you have a tip Hazard so keep them in the basket of the shopping cart I love it oh Dan says my girl got to get up and stage and dance with Jared Leto the other day that's a big win that's a pretty cool thing over there in Iowa very interesting very cool handcrafted by Erin Christmas in July at the cape Verdian club and falou all right that Saturday uh and I think are you with us this weekend I think you're with us on Sunday handcrafted by Aaron is already ready for the fall and you know what I'm I'm kind of ready with the fall I'm rning handcrafted by Aaron are you an entrepreneur do you have an interest in expanding your business we could help expand your business with e forall Cape Cod you should apply uh the iOS State Fair it is the biggest in the country 100% I've seen I have seen what I have seen he said with that said trying to get down 151 while in the fair oh not as organized you have space out there to spread out in Iowa yeah we don't have space no we're full we have 151 and it is full the Cape is full turn around get your lobster roll and leave yeah y we thank you go take your picture on the flats and see you later yeah yeah my patience this time of year this is when it starts yes I agree I agree I feel like we like ramp up to it we're like all right we know they're coming we know they're coming all right they've came right is anybody else suffering from terorist fatigue yeah I think this is right around the time and I mean we're nearing the end of it I mean I feel like my my even my poor j ons are like I'm ready to go home I'm like I know I'm sorry sorry we're a mean people here in a no it's just expensive they have to they don't they don't drive yeah and they don't have they're I do not suggest them riding bikes on 151 it is scary we already had one of the j1s that got hit by the Dunkin Donuts 130 like it's scary for them and they're not like Avid bike riders like if they knew how to ride a bike to begin with um it'd be fine but my rickety old 10 speeds on 151 is not where I'm going to go send somebody that I like no absolutely not absolutely not 2030 40 bucks for an Uber because we don't really have a good transportation system on the cape we are spread out we are far away it is not easy to get to town to town to town to town I try and explain this to people when they think that Cape cot is this cute little arm and it's this tiny little thing from here to P toown is 2 hours we the Cape is Big yeah plan yeah yeah no I'm I'm I'm done it's the first time I always ask somebody what town are you in which one are you going to where do you plan to spend your time and it's like oh just the cape right I'm coming to the cape where you staying where staying in Yarmouth cool what are you going to do I want to do a whale watch out of P town okay well that like clog yourself an hour and a half to get there that's a day that's a whole day you're a day yep yep and while you're in P toown you hit up mean p toown Burgers oh I need to go and try her Burgers I haven't tried them okay so we are going to go try burgers and watch long legs okay yes please like we've got a date going uh I'm down for it for sure I've got next weekend and the weekend Loosely off yeah so like let's make a moment to have some grown-up girl time yeah cuz I would love that um I eat vicariously through social media like I think all other people do and one of our latest graduates of the accelerator was mean Peet toown burgers and they look so good good and she has such a varied menu it's like I wish that you were closer and I know she wants to have a second shop yeah and please girl um but like I I just want to keep going because I want to try all the things we love a good burger exited party bus it up there and then everybody get it and we like cut these sandwiches into six yeah and everybody tries everything yeah we're gonna have to go talk to the girls over at tab tasting before they retire yes yes guys wait because I feel like I'm too old for the funk bus we've got well we've got Sea from 68 tours he's another Alum we're making this we're making this happen yep we have so many great people and entrepreneurs once again I know this is not an eforall show but we're both eforall graduates and the radio wouldn't be here without e for all car seat Mama wouldn't be where it's at without e for all so we will dedicate time for efor all I had this great conversation with our friends over at onate magazine that do like spotlights on new businesses and I was like you need to get into eall so I've got to connect you in the media Department with them because they're one of our Media Partners I love them so much they've been so great at giving us Cape Cod information as far as like what people really like we have got our Cape Cod Feud coming up next Friday yeah that's exciting we have eight teams that have signed up for this and it's going to be sort of like Family Feud with a Twist uh it's going to be super fun we've got um a rum promotion that's going on during it we're going to be over at Ryan family amusements it's from 5: until 7 so if you're looking for something fun where the kids can run around and the grown-ups can kind of have some grown up time we are in hyenas Hy it is right in tenpin okay all right so we're gonna be right inside of tenpin filming this we're gonna release Episode by episode um and it's it's definitely going to grow we're not going to have a final winner but we're going to get some final people the prizes are going to grow the purse strings are gonna grow and I figured we don't have our own Cape Cod game show all right so I'm so it's real Cap Cod stuff yeah like what is the worst road to drive on how many people on a team so you can have five people on a team all right so I need four e for all Lums we're GNA have an team e for all wouldn't that be amazing yeah and so they real Cape Cod questions like what's your favorite ice cream shop and right so everybody's got theirs mine's polar cave but is it Town specific well we pulled 100 Cape cotters and we pulled I know we pulled at least 10 from each town so we aggregated this data so this is real Cape Cod data to answer this that's cool so when you're answering this questions you need to think like a local uhuh so good I know so I'm really excited for this game we've put a lot of hard work and Cliff has been spending so many hours on working not only on the visual game piece but the physical game piece and building these podiums like he was at Joanne Fabrics this week like do you think this is like feels nice for a Podium I'm like yeah babe that's a that's a great yep is that polar fleece it's he's feeling felt up in the Joan's Fabrics perfect oh my God snuggle flannel snuggle flannel is what you want C 100% so I've got um they just did like a little mailing about it a little newsletter and I got a bunch of people that jumped on board that said they wanted to be a part of this so just if you're not chosen for this first one we're going to continue to do this and work out the bugs and please if you're coming next Friday have Grace we have not done this full production in real and we're doing it live so anything can happen so please expect stalls stops and starts why we have rum in a full bar there and uh plenty of food their food is is actually excellent over at 10 pin so come and have a little bit of fun with us next Frid one week from today one week from today what time it start five o'clock all right I know so and also if you can't get there be watching it so if you're not here be signing up for the next round perfect and we would like to host these monthly if it doesn't get to be I mean it's going to be easier in the winter for a lot of our locals to get there and I do understand that the first Friday in aug is a heavy ask for Cape cters so how many teams get to go on Friday so we're GNA our goal is eight oh good okay our goal is eight teams in two hours we'll see how fast we go it depends on glitches it depends on real life you never know how it's going to be maybe people's stories about their team are funny or maybe they've got funny asides that take a little bit longer right or maybe we have tie crazy ties that won't end oh my gosh all right cool I'm excited so I'm I'm planned for anything so will it be live so I will do one live okay and then I'm going to leave the rest to film oh right so we can do a little post- production and clean them up and make them a little faster I feel like if we did the whole two hours live it would be fatigue and then like awkward when people are leaving and then the new people are coming and then you know inevitably we're at a place with a lot of kids right right you just never know you never know right yeah yep we've got a lot of open AED questions but I know it's going to be a good time it's going to be so good definitely worth the price of admission and I do have several of our trivia teams that are coming just to see it good they're like we're not ready to compete but we want to see it we want to see it go down oh that's good absolutely and yeah Erin says you need the cave is closed and you do need a car to live here yes you absolutely do um so you are getting ready full season what is eall looking for right now so we looking for mentors yep we are looking for mentors we're looking for Specialists we're looking for our entrepreneurs um so if you are a you could be any background really to be a mentor um just have a passion to be helpful and to cheer on an entrepreneur um those are the folks we're looking for for mentors um I know we work by ourselves so we do need own cheerleading squad and I love that Justin is on here he's like ah hello mean p toown burgers are amazing I got to get up there Justin I promise you it's gonna happen I just saw that you sold another one of your fabulous paintings you are amazing I love some of your collaborations that you're doing right now Justin really it's amazing Emily says excuse me your office manager needs to attend Burgers you're in and we'll we'll bring the car seat absolutely yeah right we've got an expert over over here we'll bring it how do people get a hold of you if they really just have questions yep so the best way is Cape at efor all.org that's going to come to that email comes to me it comes to our executive director and it comes to our program coordinator so all three of us will get that email so one of us will be able to respond to that um efor all.org is the website you can go on there and click on communities master Massachusetts Cape Cod and you can sign right up for our fall accelerator um this is a national program so if you're moving or something happens in your life or your business you're not left in the Lurch there are programs everywhere yeah which and we're constant expanding yeah so yeah the freedom to move about the world is really pretty incredible and if you are a specialist in your field if you are an accountant or if you work in insurance or you work in legal and you want to help me put on the class that coincides with that we are always looking for Specialists that want to volunteer their time that way yeah giving back and maybe showing showcasing stuff that people don't know about your business or business owners need to know that way I mean really you're helping yourself out in the long run because you're getting them ready to come to you for actual business yes so I mean it's important and if if all of that sounds too heavy if you just want want to volunteer your time and say hey I work in legal and if they have any one-off questions I would love to be able to provide them with you know oneoff answers it's such a great Network I never feel stupid about answering asking questions I never feel awkward when I'm in a room full of entrepreneurs that I don't even know no you really if you're in any space where you're just awkward or uncomfortable about your business this is a place for you for all is for you we are here for the awward for sure and so talk about car seat mama how do people get a hold of you yeah so car seat Mama I'm on Facebook Instagram and online car seat mama.org um I don't have any big events coming up right now because with ephl it's kind of you know the balance the the work life balance here um but in the fall I will be doing a safety day um where I'll be doing car seat checks with other technicians um so be on the lookout for that but otherwise if you are interested in having a one-on-one safety session where I take you through the ins and outs of your car seat and installing it in your own vehicle um you can go right on our website and there is a schedule now button um and it's car seat Mama mma.org perfect Jen Christian thank you
