no one's allergic oh I have a witch's broom thank you so much cheers everybody happy Sunday fun day just gonna wait a minute for uh some more folks to join us because I've been off the air all week long oh we're on now yeah we're on we're on I've been off all week long I took a sort of vacation in which I feel like I worked more on vacation than I did off I just didn't do the radio portion Hank filled in for me but I did absolutely everything else I did I did get a little Sun I got a little fun my mother-in-law just left my mother just showed up so we've had a lot of family yeah family time in the summer I know right this one's better thing on your vacation I one of my girlfriends Tanya who does mindful goat yoga right so it's more goats and less yoga but I wouldn't I wouldn't be able to do anything but it's also like a little rooster and she said I've been saving this feather for you because it was yellow so I thought it was so so excited so yeah it's real rooster feather and I had a lot of things to say about the the uh the rooster in my hair but I'm not gonna do something because we're here raising money though I love it yeah so put your face in that microphone and tell everybody who you are in case that they don't know who Jo Allen is all right hi everyone I am Joe Allen Erickson and I get the great honor the pleasure privilege of being the president and co-founder of which is on the water and we are a very unique and fun organization we really are we really are what we do is we host a costume panel a paddle every year in October first Saturday of October and each year we choose another local non-profit recipient to report and this year we get the great honor of fundraising for capabilities uh they're so amazing I've worked with capabilities on a couple of podcasting things and working with them is so joyful and everybody's so kind and happy and really willing to just throw everything down to get somebody to understand something and I love that for a really special part of our community and we're blessed to be a part of it you also have a very specific way in which you pick your recipients of all of your fundraising efforts this is no joke I mean which is on the water we have to work with a culture it's important that you know everything done authentically which is on the Waterway which each year uh come January all of our board members choose their favorite or their uh you know their option their non-profit option that they want to pop into The Cauldron so literally we put it on a piece of paper we put it in the cauldron and then we have another folk who's not one of the board members to choose it and no matter what name comes out every single one of us gets right on board from from this first second we hear the names so we never talk about who went in the cauldron because you never know right now break so we um yeah we're just thrilled we do it and it's a really fun um exciting thing we all sit there waiting and we start a pot a little bit and then out comes the magic seed they're stirring them Belinda over here the white good witch over here so no this year are some capabilities and we're just thrilled I mean we had quite a few uh capability staff members and some of their wonderful individuals joined us in the Fourth of July parade in Chatham I love that huge success we had so much fun with that and now we get to be here today at knock about uh continue to do our our good work um and sharing some of our Merchants available we've got very cool merch that you can purchase we've got some amazing witches here um you know you really enjoyed today's National Sister's Day it is and I feel like your your sisters are here with you and fundraising you really it's pretty magical the stuff that you do I feel like I am I've been there since the first you have and I'm I'm really excited that you included me in that well I remember texting you sitting on my couch when Susan and I were having this idea and I was like what about we've got Stephanie Viva involved she's like okay try it I remember dming you yeah and it wasn't even three dots later you know when they wait you were yeah tell me more yeah and I gave you the website and you're like I'm in and that was it yeah we've been friends ever since for sure and I'm just I'm so thankful to be a part of this fabulous group of women and it's not just women we've got so many other people inval I mean technically witches are women but we've got more lives but you do have your warlocks that are involved too and we've had so many people like you from day one it's nice from day one um our friends our families and then we've actually which I think is a huge a huge message for us is that each year uh the recipients they come with their own volunteers as well where they come apart we still have people volunteering from our very first event which benefited uh the Family Pantry of Cape Cod they just they love the mission and they just keep coming back I'm like that that means a lot well this kind of started by an accident and I think we should maybe talk about that little bit of an origin story for a second sounds good so Susan are my other co-founder Susan price the good witch she just saw her um so we she had sent me a photo of a few folks paddling us which is I think it was in Fair Haven truthful somewhere around here okay so not far away far away was on Facebook and her and I both love Halloween and love paddling and I was like oh we have to do that so we just put out to friends and the first time we did we had 13 folks show up dressed to the nines and we paddled in town Cove in Orleans just for fun and all of a sudden that afternoon we had people come take photos that afternoon we put all our social media our phone started blowing up we ended up being on the front page of the Sunday Times the next day people were like what are you doing who's this for who you're sponsoring who are you benefiting and we're like uh no one and Susan I went for a walk that week and we looked at each other and we're like we have to make this a non-profit we have to do something great with this who is amazing accountant Bruce Behrens is an amazing attorney who's helped many fabulous yes and we reached out to them and said will you help us and just like you there wasn't more than three dots and they were like yep and so we literally had our 501c3 in some marker time thing within months that's so amazing here we go and they're still supporting us and helping us when we have questions just like you know they're you guys are all our Originals yeah you know we couldn't have done it without all of you that's nice and I love that you move it around because that's what needs to happen it's not just you know you the one charity I love that you're not helping more than one it's such a great it's such an amazing community and it's like you can't there's so many non-profits you can't just pick just one there's so many different things yeah and and I don't know I think by doing this it like it adds this level of fun and lightness to some pretty serious subjects yeah and so it doesn't always have to be so heavy so this is just a way to like I don't know people really remember when we paddled during covet right and we should we were somewhere I don't remember where we were there were five of us fishermen we were at Fisherman's Landing okay but people were coming out of their house they were like we were so glad to see you right that small light of Joy like there were two people hey what is it that you're doing it looks crazy we're in I think I saw some of these with the glasses no that's right and by the way this is Susan price of Michael hi and we are here live at knock about as we are for every Sunday fun day but we got a little magic going on today we're doing a fundraiser for the witches so when you come come and see the witches buy yourself a ticket and that money will go to capabilities it I've got to think knock about because they are so wonderful every time I say Pete we've got a new charity okay you know the drill yeah it's never a no it's always a win yeah so I really love that pink bag are fabulous and they really do such a great job reaching out to our community and saying yes all the time so we've got a witches brew IPA today and we have a sub so if you buy either one of those the proceeds will go to capabilities and thank you Stephanie weba for always being our biggest cheerleader yes for sure yeah one of her Originals fun and it's also benefiting the community so how is there not an ability to be able to do this and you guys have some new merch we do yes come on down buy some T-shirts some T-shirts dry bags all sorts of stuff I forgot the other one the unisex one that are great for guys oh yeah they're they're awesome so come and yeah and if you can't make it today you can always look at um reach out to us on our website or on social media and we'll get it to you we actually have a couple orders that just came in Via our website which is fantastic so it's one of I forget the price of this stuff so 30 for the hoodie 25 for the T-shirt 10 bucks for the dry bag and there's something on the table yeah there is you should have just had Cody run and get it for us that we didn't have to move that's all right Jackie hi Daniels hey Sandy hi Seth thank you so much for joining us this morning I've got Joelle and I've got Susan and we are here at knock about for our Sunday Funday raising some money for witches on the water now their paddle is not until October 7th that's right so talk more about the paddle in case they want to sign up and start raising their own funds you got it so you can go online actually registration opens on August 15th so we're almost there we're gonna do some countdown soon right because today is the what is today something like that so next week it opens up and we have we're limited to 75 paddlers unlimited Spectators but 75 paddlers when you register it's fifty dollars to be a participant on the water if you don't have a paddle board if you have a kayak or canoe that's fine too just can't be a motorized a motorized uh boat vehicle um and then we're asking each one of our participants to raise a minimum of 250 which we think is very doable yeah that will go to capabilities most folks go way above that these days when we send you the link to set up your own fundraising page on on social media but I mean within a day people are hitting the 250 that's really crazy how easy it is to raise that yeah because at first people commented that they were a little nervous that they might not be able to raise that much money and there are no fears about that anymore nobody has had to come out of their own pocket no one we've had what is the most anybody ever raised like four thousand something dollars that was uh the girl that Jane last year you know what I'm gonna say that if you don't raise the 250 dollars lemonadeio will put up the rest of the money to get you to the 250.00 so if you're freaked out and you're like I don't know if I can make 250 bucks go whatever it is that you can we will we will make you get to the to the bare minimum we can do this for him so last year we did we raised 21 000 the year before for Family Pantry of Cape Cod last year we raised 31 000 for capable in this collaboration so we are keeping on that trajectory yeah for what 41 000 this year so here's the text code 44321 and the text word is wow 2023 so that's what you can do also guys if you don't paddle you don't hug you don't canoe come and be a spectator we are going to have this amazing human being I'm seeing our event we have a band playing from one to three we're gonna have food trucks there's amazing things to take uh drawing tickets on that we're going to have a paddle board thanks to the North China Outfitters for the third year in a row yeah yeah there's just so much great stuff and it's a spectacle yeah it's just so I like that word it is absolutely it's practical it's so fun it's a great way to kick off October or Halloween the fall everything beautiful oyster Pond and Chatham the location is terrific and I can we give a shout out to that town absolutely you've been incredible to us thank you Chatham for always saying yes we keep coming with bigger ideas and you keep saying okay and I think it's a testimony to all our volunteers and this amazing board who really just go in fully professional and ready to have a really good fun safe event so and shout out to all the witches that motivated for a Sunday Sunny Sunday Sunday yeah come on down and raise them I don't know well you know it's October 7th and any other things you want people to know just go on to our
