This week we're joined by Vincent English, co-founder of the Michael English House, a Cape Cod nonprofit named for his brother Michael and built to help people in recovery and people coming home from incarceration rebuild their lives. Vincent tells us about Skilled Purpose, the Michael English House's 12-week carpentry training program. It combines hands-on trade training with mentorship and real routes into jobs. The program runs in partnership with the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office and is going after a real problem here on the Cape: a serious shortage of skilled carpenters. The first graduates got their certificates this past April. We'll talk about how Skilled Purpose got started, what a second chance looks like when there's a paycheck and a skill behind it, and how local builders, businesses and neighbors can help, whether that's hiring a graduate, offering an apprenticeship, donating materials or sponsoring a session. Tune in, share the stream, and drop your questions for Vincent in the chat!
