foreign did I tag you I don't know what I'm doing over here that's fine we're on I got that you just can't see us right you just can't see us but it is us we're here hi good morning Seraphina Churchill uh she is owner of images by Seraphina that's me and uh virtual art Department actual art Department an art department when you can't afford an art Department well maybe not that last one um I'm not saying you're cheap either I'm just saying when you can't have that position you want to have someone in-house right so it is cheaper to hire me rather than hiring a staff member right oh gosh but a lot of my clients are off Cape so that's why I use the word virtual because it's a lot of what I do is is remote so thus many of my clients yeah but for my on cake flies I'm totally your art Department like because I can show up at your place you just never know when she will well yeah you take um product photography you also do that and that's part of your 100 yeah like what is your favorite stuff to do within your business I always like to ask people that hold please good morning Darlene continue um yeah so my I love doing product photography for so I have like an in my house I have a small Studio space can I have you over and do your headshot no not really it's a very small space but uh if you have product line I can go to your shop pick it up or if you're off Cape you can ship it to me I can photograph it and and I can do what I can either set design and do it or I can just do the white background for like e-commerce okay and then I can give you back your products with your pictures fancy that's one of my favorite things to do but also I love graphic design so anytime I'm designing is always good yeah I'm just not good at that that's why I need to hire you I play with pixels for a living and I love it perfect it's just like me sitting down having a conversation with people it's my favorite thing to do yeah right we all have to play to our strengths weddings in the hot hot sun probably not not my most favorite thing to do but you know no so I did that a lot as a kid um because my father was a DJ so he would do the weddings and the anniversary parties but like out in the wild I feel like that that's why we connect on another level sometimes so assistant like all through you know my middle school and early high school years I was go with Dad on gigs Carrie do and so we have had plenty of weddings and I figured out real quick that's not the industry I really wanted to work in I love the people aspect of it it's just sometimes you're just in an awkward position being a vendor yeah is is not always easy yeah period yes that's true but specifically in that industry It's Tricky and if at all seriously so amongst many of the other things that you're fantastic at uh you've been asked to speak at the South Shore conference for women I am so flipping excited like I'm still I I'm still almost in awe in shock how did this come about so a client of mine client in French who I I had done some work for her and and she sent me this email and she was like Hey so I'm on the board for the South Shore conference for women which I did not know that about her so that was fun to learn and then also she was like uh and we're asking people to apply to be uh panelists and I think you'd be great and I was like that's sweet of you to say and also I think I'd be pretty great all right it's free to apply like whatever so I clicked the link and it was like due today can you have this ready for me in one hour I'm a thinker I'm a planner I I have the like okay I'm going to apply for that thing and I have three weeks to strategize what I'm gonna say like I'm that girl so when I was like oh I have today to fill out this this application I was like well we're just gonna do it we'll put my name in the ring I won't get selected but next year I'll be on the mailing list and I'll be prepared so I was shocked when I'm out to dinner for my birthday of all things with my partner and my phone dings and I was like oh sorry let me silence that let me put that away and then I see like who it's from and I get a little hmm and I see the subject is like congratulations you've been selected dot dot dot and I was like wait so super rude but I absolutely opened the email while it's dinner table with my horse and I was like and I just started doing a happy dance God no so if you were there then I'm sorry yes she really likes her birthday and she really is she's into the best sushi ever I was just so excited so yeah so they apparently um rapid fire like fill out the application today which worked which was an interesting thing for me to learn also and so now you're good Under Pressure now you know and I'm on this amazing panel with these two women who one of whom runs a PR department just outside of Boston and the other one is a brand strategist and the three of us are going to be talking about branding and I'm just so pumped love I'm so excited how do I get tickets because I want to go so because you're not the only person that I know that is in this I know it's it's so because it's the South Shore is the closest one to the cape so any of us here on the cape that's sort of that's our one to go to because she's local is actually Nationwide there's a bunch of different um conferences under this umbrella so if you go to she'slocal.org you'll be able to go through and see all of them so if you're not in the South Shore area look for what conference near you but also um at that website you'll find the South Shore conference for women so it's like the Plymouth area this year they used to do it um further north and it was harder to get to yeah right it's in Plymouth so we can handle that one good morning Candy thanks for joining us you've had a banner year it's not bad it's going all right like for a big birthday year you've accomplished like some stuff it's well you know I well yeah I'm doing okay I I'm I'm 30 under 30. except I do can't I was under the wire what I was 40. whatever 40 under 40 and I was 40. no one's asking just accept the order so that yeah that was great 39.999 she just squeaked it in oh my gosh um yeah and the business is you know growing and stuff although in the summer I always slow down and this is something I've just learned over time like July and August people don't want to talk to me which is fine yeah you're busy your business is booming because it's the summer or you're on vacation or your kids are out of school and you've got other things to do like um so I was like oh I'm gonna pick up a part-time job so I started looking around so I'm like I'm gonna get a summer job I haven't had a summer job in years this will be fun and lo and behold Holly was like I'm looking for someone for one day a week and I was like sold like that sounds perfect so one day a week I get to hang out at ritual which I mean I'm a book nerd so she lets me organize the books and I say let's she lets me because I love it and then it's crystals and candles and people ask them questions like do you have anything on Ancient deities and I go why yes we do and I love it it's the best like one day a week extra like fun money yeah and that's nice too because it's just really and she's my friend like we've been friends for many years so it's easy when your your boss is like but also come on and play with the books hit like a sound bowl and just like hear a ding and or like burn my favorite incense like all the things I just love it the stuff I can't necessarily do at home because Natasha's like that's a smelly candle she's one of the my husband's that way she lets you go if it's in my office during business hours but otherwise she's like so my husband is very um influenced by smells he gets very mad the kids are doing nail polish nail polish remover yeah anything of the sorts of those kind of smells he freaks out about he starts pacing well so not quite to that degree but she's not a fan yeah it's not a good thing so we're very smell sensitive in this house so Granada incense is not allowed all of that other stuff I know I love that stuff so I can get that out of my system yes good that's perfect and it's nice to have a little side hustle it's nice to go somewhere we've been kind of bouncing that off of each other right now and we've got like three different options on the table right now that I've been wrestling with so I had Holly pull some cards for me yesterday I was like yeah I don't even know she's great she's very good at that sort of thing and even if you don't believe in any of that stuff she's really good to have a conversation with because it's just like interpreting this and also reading your body language and she just made me feel a little bit better about my own choices and yeah what's the harm in that and and that's true of any of that stuff that goes on there like whether it's the yoga classes or Reiki healing or even if you're like this is all hogwash you took an hour and you shut everything off for an hour and you just let yourself do a thing right thing outside of the norm and that is a form of self-care whether you believe in the magical part of it or not um you just did something nice for yourself for an hour so that's always a good thing one hour out of your life is not going to actually be a detriment it's going to be good for you so you are a fellow book nerd I I love starting books I really love them you gotta finish the book like the good part is the end I don't know how else to explain this to you it's so hard for me I'm like oh but I always feel like I know it's not a magazine where there is no end it's there's a novel there's a story there is a point to finishing it and sometimes they surprise you which is why they're worth reading I know I know I gotta be better about that um Serafina and I were in a entrepreneurial book club where Stephanie never read the right book and Stephanie was terrible at this book I really sucked at book club I enjoyed all the books that one I really did learn a lot of stuff from reading but out of order I know I don't think the order really mattered but like all of us read this book and we're talking about it actively right now and she's like wait what because I read this okay I thought the author was a man that's next month's book Steph but you're wrong and behind and ahead all at the same time right right and then for that book club I didn't get to that book club to discuss the book that I had already actually read we were waiting for your feedback it really sucked up you left us hanging right but I appreciate that you do ask and you make lists and you start them and that's fine I come in for Comic Relief really I have a book for you that's going to be really easy to digest excellent because it's a book of short stories so you can actually start it put it down for me yes so it's not so each story is only a few pages yeah and then you can put it down for a bit bring it back up if you want so I'm gonna tell you about this book that everyone should know about a friend a dear friend of mine compiled this it's it's a it's 14 different authors all women authors who have put together a list of a collection of short stories and my friend Raven Belasco is the um the editor and uh they the book is called adventures in bodily autonomy all of the authors are either uh horror um science fiction yeah fantasy you and I like the departure yeah it's not normal story so which is what makes them great um and so and each story talks about basically the women's right to choose what happens to her life her body her um the choices she makes for her own future so each and and there's some very interesting takes on that premise in this book and so the last story is actually by Raven so that that's um super nice too so this is an advanced reader's copy that I am gifting to Stephanie under the under the guise she will read it I will read it and then on October 16th is when it goes for sale so everyone could go in and buy it and the proceeds from the book are all being donated to nairal pro-choice love it amazing not none of all of the authors donated the stories and the proceeds are being donated to new Royal pro-choice on October 16th so your job or whatever until October 16th you got plenty of time I know and I love the cover and I love the fact that she has put this all together and assembled these stories it's almost reminding me of Black Mirror but with female body situations so actually that's a fun analogy I think that's good it's it's just like it they're so good I can't even I don't want to give any spoilers excellent please don't because I'm excited for it so on October 16th everyone should go buy it and if you've read it you need to review it on the Amazon machine to help with sales Perfect all going to a good cause so that's my bookmark gift to you thank you I will read it because you gifted it to me the last one I finished start to to finish in three days that you gave to me see I give away good books so if it grabs me and I'm in for it I'm in for it but even if you get to like you're like this story isn't it's okay if one or two of the stories aren't your favorite right there's 14. okay one over two of them or many of them are gonna be great I'm excited and it's something different I'm always I feel like in the same space of books that I read unless somebody else suggests them to me I also have another suggested book that you said about uh it's an entrepreneurial book oh yes uh profit first so Cliff got the digital copy I thought he ordered me the regular copy and then yesterday I said where's that book that you ordered me and he's like it's a digital company I listened to the audiobook and then went to his website and downloaded because there's like graphs and charts and things in the book yeah he describes in the audiobook but I mean you know tactile so I went to his website and I downloaded them um which he offers for free when you do the audiobook so it no matter how you want to consume the book whether it's the ebook the audio or the actual physical book uh it's it's a fantastic take on on personal business finance like honestly I found it interesting so like I went to art school and I found this book on business finance interesting so like that speaks volumes it was very good and it's honestly it's changed what I'm gonna do next quarter yeah see Darlene said she loves a good book list seriously though I see it's one of the things that we don't do enough and I feel like the more the merrier because not everybody likes the same things so yeah suggesting I even had a question I always do a question of the day and one of them was the last thing that you read and once we got past all the comments of this post uh there were some actually good suggestions in there there were some books on there I was like Wow clever they're funny really though I like to have a good list of things that I can always go back to it's great after I finish something just so we can do so Tori and I I have a podcast the first shot morning show that is coming back we're coming back from a rested summer new season starts on Monday we always end Friday with a good book suggestion nice and it's usually something we're either halfway in or fully read so that we could at least speak to the fact how we liked it and why we liked it I'm halfway through the Deep Sky which is sci-fi yeah um and you know they're on a deep space mission to colonize a new planet kind of I'm a nerd and um this one's great because the entire crew is a female so it's um and you know there's a something happens and they're all trying to investigate it and it's um they're worried about it being influenced from Earth it's very fascinating book so I'm about halfway through and I'm really enjoying that one see I can nerd out with a good book like that because as long as you're removed I need a departure sometimes yeah everybody needs a departure from their actual feels like my friend is telling me story about what happened last week I'm not gonna read this I've got enough of that trust me that's my life I get an escapism for sure seriously though so I love that the fact that we've weaved the South Shore conference for women to female authors yeah into this female environment conversation where we're talking about the likes of Adventures in bodily autonomy without their and on the front cover is the best it's like a poker game with a Starlet an astronaut and uh it looks like a vampire well the last story is definitely about vampire the one written by Raven Ohio is a vampire story and it's quite good all right but it knockers I'm not graphic so if you're like oh no I don't want it's that I like vampires her books are but that particular story is actually quite delightful yeah so don't worry if you're scared don't be scared I'm not scared and I do like the occult sort of the vampires and the witches and the other really fun storytelling honestly whether it's uh I forget what that TV show the all of the Vampire Diaries of the witches of whatever I watched all of them like I'm a teenage girl I don't care I enjoy them the escapism yeah it totally is well that makes me laugh because you um since we were talking about your dad growing up with this whole thing he loves his fun facts yes and he subscribes to this that's okay I subscribe to this this service that like gives him five fun facts every day Monday through Friday literally like a hold back from the DJ days and he sends them to me and my brother and sister every day and so today's fun facts I have to say uh the first four were kind of like not worth mentioning but the the fifth one Speaking of it had to do with vampire yeah the song Total Eclipse of the Heart was originally called vampires in love so I don't think it would hit the same sorry Bonnie I mean it does make me rethink the lyrics in a new way but yeah I think that they made the right choice by renaming that's like the song of my childhood like I think it's probably correct to have left it alone well speaking of your childhood you relived your childhood Glory Days as you marched in the parade for Carnival this year that was a bucket list item for you it was so um my first summer on the cape I I went to Carnival and I've gone every year since and it's always a blast it's this amazing fantasy day like the costumes and the people and the crowds it's just it's remarkable true Showmanship in costuming and just living your true self as someone who is a creative and has a lot of creative friends like I'm still like yeah I'm not worthy when I go to these events and I see what the people have put together it's amazing so I've always wanted to be a part of it in some way um and so yes I had the opportunity to be in the parade there was a group of us a walking group who all dressed up as Uno cards and you guys covered it so cute yes I was wearing my papa Jason t-shirt under my UNO card costumes thank you on TV and um and which I was gonna wear today but it's dirty I would wear it regularly now oh yeah good so I didn't have it it wasn't clean so I couldn't wear it but um what I forgot from I in high school I was color guard and I did like you know flags and rifles and I've been in parades no Flags totally that's awesome so and Enzo's like oh I could be in a parade I've done it before I could do it again it's been 25 years so things change for instance the one mile Parade route is not one mile it's more like two and where you park is at least a mile from where you start and so where you end is also a mile from where you park Iraq so really it's you're in for a Four Mile Walk no matter what and the two mile parade is not walking you're dancing you're running you're jumping you're entertaining the crowd right which was great the energy is something that I've never experienced 17 year old knees were very unhappy so I've been doing knee strengthening exercises ever since because that's things we say now yeah seriously though it's not for the week I'll tell you what I mean I usually feel like I need a body bag after a parade like that so I did it check going back to being a viewer going back unless I'm on a float all right I'm doing that again definitely go watch the live feed if you subscribe to our YouTube channel you can uh never miss a moment of what we do here at lemonade here because you never know what's going to pop on I was so thrilled that you guys were covering it so I could watch it the next morning because that was what I also realized at some point was like I don't get to see it right if I'm in it and it's so fun to watch it in its entirety um normally during the parade I get distracted there are things going on you know I squirrel and so I miss half the things and then I'll see photos afterwards and I'm like I didn't see that person that's my favorite is like the whole week after all the photos of the people from one end of commercial to the other that you didn't see and if you follow like the the problems down Community pages on Facebook more more and more images will pop up oh that's so great my partner always dresses like a stormtrooper um and and trust me everyone tells the like aren't you a little short to be a stormtrooper joke every year which we enjoy but like it's you're not the first one to say it but um you're not that clever but like we get stopped she's like a celebrity no one knows who's under there but it's so awesome stopped and like I I never match I'm never like Darth Vader like I don't match so I usually step aside and usually that's what people want they just want a picture of the Storm Trooper but every once in a while you get like that artist person who was like no no do something but I'm you're in the frame and I was like damn it this is gonna be artsy and I'm like looking at my phone next to a stormtrooper like you know that's awesome those pictures have surfaced they're all over Facebook I I just love being surrounded by that kind of magic it's one of those things where every single time and I talk about it every time I talk about Provincetown when I get to that long stretch before you pull into Province Town and you're entering Provincetown that whole I my whole demeanor changes it's the way I breathe changes the way I relax a little bit into my body it's the end of the world and it's perfect it's the perfect end of the world so no one cares anything of what you do who you are what is happening you truly can be yourself where someone's not going to give you I mean they might give you side but you don't care and for decades like it's because it doesn't matter not only is it like you know a place where the lgbtq community can go without any reprisals but like also the artist Community the performers there's so many others there who can just be themselves and it's really it's a beautiful community and it's like that all year but it's even more so in the summer yeah that's in Scotland they call it Fringe it's the outskirts yeah so like that's it's just Fringe Society can go and just exactly so I definitely love that Community I love the fact that you got to to walk in the parade I don't love the fact that we're feeling our age right now because everything aches and pains I mean I mean it had to happen and then you like fell off a mountain what happened to you over here so she comes in all bandaged that's happening first I just I had a fantastic Labor Day weekend I was like I'm unplugging you were really doing the most with your time I did I did because I I'm gonna unplug for these three days I am going to enjoy it was not as humid so that I don't like the outside when the outside feels like an oven it's just not I'm not a fan of that first level of Summer sidebar over here my children have a half day today we've got an email at 8pm last night saying it was too hot in the classrooms half day today that never would have happened uh no either kids would have sweat or you know figure out central air I like they were like it was 86 at the middle school and it was 83 at the end of the day so we're just calling off a half day but at 8pm the night before I mean honestly my brain doesn't function well in that so figure it out go outside sit under a tree I hate the heat my brain doesn't work no one's brain works right or unless you're elderly and then they thrive on it they grow in strength yeah they're still wearing sweaters that's cold so here you are you're not you were excited you had a good Labor Day weekend it's a beautiful weather so uh Natasha and I and our friend Nicole we were gonna go kayaking and we've been trying to plan this kayak trip for a while and like Tides weren't you've been the Bastion of self-care this year I mean yes making sure you even text me to remind me to do so yes by the way have you gone to Sandy neck no women finding Clarity the dynamic duo back together again thank you that's so women finding Clarity the woman who owns that her name is Pascal she's the one who told me excellent she's she's it's her fault she's why I have black for the South Shore conference for women and got in so thank you and Laura Matthews who did an amazing job Serafina that's Laura was the one Laura and Lisa were in charge of our group marching as I love it thank you Laura's brainchild I got so excited I was like a three-year-old well and during the parade Laura came up to me and she's like did you see Lemonade he was right there and I was like I did I saw him thank you so it was everyone was making sure we connected I know I loved it oh so fun so then you got your kayaking trip right so we so we get to the place we the place we're gonna go we had to reschedule or relocate because there was an issue with the tide so we went to a pond instead fine so this it's one of my I'm actually not gonna say what it is because I don't want to ruin it right it's one of my favorite spots to go kayaking and um but you have to go down this Rocky Trail to get from where you park to where the water is right no big deal I've done this a hundred times I'm not good we're fine so I'm carrying my kayak I'm walking down and it's you know loose gravel tree roots you know it's a wooden Trail danger absolutely rocks go out from under my feet I completely lose my and it's not like I could there's nothing for me to grab onto that wasn't near a tree I'm holding the boat and I just like throw the boat down and I go straight down on the knee that's hurt since the parade because you know why would you do the other knee and I I uh I would like to say I made Modern Art out of my kneecap um I it I trashed it it's just like um Natasha said it looks like it looked like raw hamburger like it just I made a mess of mine for someone that's a vegetarian she doesn't want to talk about raw hamburger that's what my knee looked like and so um so my friend Nicole the last time she and I had gone on an outing I had fallen and actually twisted my ankle really badly so Nicole was like you were never gonna want to hang out with me again right and I was like it's really not you it's me and then Natasha looks at me and she goes do you still want to kayak or do you want to go home like she was giving me the out absolutely giving me the out and I was like no we are we're gonna have fun damn it we are wiping our eyes of the tears and blood that's now covered all over I'm doing good so Nicole came saving the day though because she's a mom of three boys that woman first aid kit in her minivan is guts and breaks she has got runs up that hill gets the best first aid kit I've ever seen completely takes care of me uh Natasha bandages me up we get him then we get in our boats we go kayaking so bad I was actually really grateful that because the water gets cold so the bottom of the boat gets cold which usually I don't like but on this particular day I was thrilled um because the cold was helping numb my name the poor thing but it's fine because we kayak out and there's this um island in the middle of the lake and there was a bald eagle nest on there oh very cool we got to see like mama papa and juvenile bald eagle very nice so it was worth it yeah totally worth the weeks of painting it's totally fine she's still bandaging it no big deal it's not a problem no it's a beautiful day I did not get a chance to get out to Sandy neck we did go to the Poconos I did get to climb a mountain so that was kind of cool all right and I did see a bunch of waterfalls and I also stopped going downhill the woman was like oh good luck to you I'm like why do I look so like I can't handle this mountain it really wasn't all that bad I was fine getting up it it was coming down that I was like oh God I was holding on for everything just slowly because for whatever reason I'm like it's like a cow can't bend its legs that's like me I didn't go up the stairs and they can't go down and go up but mama don't come down she comes down one step at a time one step at a time and that's how I did it the Poconos are beautiful but we really did enjoy ourselves we had a great time it was like the perfect getaway you know life absolutely happened while we were there and I had my moments of crying and phone calls while I was away but I did shut it off for like two days where I did it I didn't go online which for me is a lot I didn't check emails I just dealt with immediate texts but I'm so proud of you I know I had to do it I'm hoping for like a fall bonfire if somebody's got something going on midweek during the fall please invite me I would like to go and just see fire yeah that's the best part about standing there exactly so um what else do we have going on oh our question of the day how often do you upgrade your cell phone I have to give a shout out to Amy over at T-Mobile in Falmouth she has been absolutely superb and dealing with someone with customer service uh phenomenal very communicative and awesome with dealing with switching my children's phones over because taking a phone from a teenager yeah no I can't imagine um uh so they need it no they really don't do they really need a smart one so um with that said China has banned iPhones and there's a county I think it's Wicklow in Ireland that says no smartphones for children I'm not mad about that honestly um I don't anymore but I used to work for public schools and it was before kids had smartphones so I've been out of the game a while but like devices were still a problem so some kids have the newest fancy fanciest most elevated version of some device other kids have a lower like they've gotten the hand-me-down device other kids don't have devices at all and it really causes issues so I I think it's okay for kids to just go to school I mean we did it for a long time if you need a computer to type your paper like that's one thing but do you need a smartphone in your pocket during class time probably not no and this is a new regime at my children Mashpee school systems you're allowed to check your phone um right when you get in homeroom and at lunch and right before you leave that is it and honestly most jobs are like that I don't really want you on your phone when you're at work I like can't stand when I'm at a situation where someone is running something and they're like this they're not engaging you they're not talking to you it makes me yeah when you go into like a store or something and the person behind the register is staring at their phone it's kind of weird yeah it's off-putting right they're not engaging you it's just and I find I'm finding that more often than not in storefronts in places that I'm doing business and I'm questioning the usage of phones all the time what I I don't know whether I'm hypersensitive to it because it bothered me once and so now I I make a mental note I try to make some sort of like I know it's rude but I need to and explain it right and maybe that's just me but I I you know it's like I don't just grab the phone and start doing the thing I'm like hey I you know what I want to be able to answer that for you and I need to Google it I'm not sure and out comes the phone like just so there's an explanation why this is showing up and I'm disengaging with you you know in this day and age good morning Lauren thank you so much for joining us everything is on the phone and I do a lot of my work on the phone and it's obnoxious uh even to myself when I'm like I know this is annoying but I have to do this yeah and I do say it you just have to give that little caveat but when you just disappear behind the screen it's really and like and for a young person in school your support teachers are vying for their attention a hundred percent trying to educate them to make them you know people who will then exist in our society so I'm not mad about the new rulings of school my son was like first time they take it away from you second time they make you come and get it and you know in many foreign countries you have to check in your phone when you get to school at the end of the day because as a parent during the day when I get 47 text messages mommy what I was just seeing how you are like literally nothing you don't need anything midday all day all day what are you doing what are we having for dinner what what what's happening again but like I I would go to school be in school all day not know how my parents would like I assume that if something happens the school would inform me right and vice versa something happens to me the school will inform my parents like their systems in place you don't need your phone and you know you'd stay after school because you had practice or whatever and then you pick up the pay phone I know right collect call your parents practice is over and like they've come pick you up because you didn't even have the dime on you that was the call sometimes I had the dime I didn't always no you know so you collect all your parents and you say practice but they knew the drill they knew when they were getting that phone call they probably didn't even need to pick it up they knew where to go practice is over come get me no and I'm shout out to my son who by the way got me a call yesterday at three staying after so you don't have to come back and forth Ann was at school until nine PM I finished my gig and got him it was a long day for him but he managed himself he did but he's really enjoying he's a freshman this year so and he's like the frat boy freshman that's high school now it's odd he's like yo coach said I might have some reps and varsity he's got that voice oh my God who are you go enjoy oh that's awesome go enjoy High School it is fun to see the last of our our children it's been like super emotional for me weirdly and I don't know whether it's because I'm a tune to it because I'm part of the morning procedure where for 20 years I wasn't part of the morning procedure I was the afternoon pickup lady my husband was the one who got them out the door yes I was at the station yeah so now I'm part of the morning routine instead of not yeah but also you're like prepping for emptiness which I mean I'm not against it but also it's like get me in my feels that I wasn't expecting it but are you really gonna end up with an empty nest no it's never empty you know that I'm a people collector as it is so but also at this point it's not like they can afford an apartment no we're not going anywhere no one's leaving right yeah so you get the JV folks over the summer yeah you have random family members coming back to visit all the time it was an absolute Hotel this summer shocked when I got here there was a spot in the drive yep the j-1s are gone that's what it is because I was like am I allowed to actually Park I'm like if I park behind Stephanie's car it should be good because I know she's not gonna leave me here Lauren said kids leave j1's in yeah I'll just have a whole I'll eventually just leave this house my friends like we need a place at one point this summer the camper was full I had my mother-in-law my mother-in-law my mother his uncle their friends Jay ones the porch is yellow I love that right it was beautiful and working on the curb I'm trying it was beautiful I walked up and I was like look it's the entrance and Lemony yeah right I loved it so my mother likes to start projects and leave them so kind of like how you like to start books and never finish them I'm not going to say the Apple didn't fall far 100 she did like one board so I had to take a whole one of my days off and fix her project but to be fair it got done so maybe if I had somebody else to half start projects that would make me crazy I might finish those I'm only good for half whether it's in the front or the back I'm only good for her so you need to listen to the first half of an audiobook and then pick up the novel and read the second half I've got to find a manageable way clearly to get this done because I get so lady I need to finish a book well I just saw this woman on Tick Tock have a really good thing when she was doing her projects she you know tick tocks her house projects whatever it is but she says I've listened to 12 books this year because that that's what she uses her time and I was like that's what I need to be doing it's maximizing the time that I do have so so audiobooks is a new thing for me um I have dyslexia so for me like reading is genuinely challenging and it does I love to do it but it's a process like it takes me longer than most people so it takes me a lot longer to read a book than the average person so book clubs used to give me such anxiety accountable right very very much feels like homework um but and I used to and I tried audiobooks and I my mind would just wander like yeah Focus just very very recently that I figured out there are certain activities where the audiobook complements the activity like laundry or like so basic household stuff yeah and also when I'm when I'm editing a photo shoot you take a thousand photos and you gotta get it down to only 100 that you're going to show the clients it's a lot of like repetitious going through going like you took this image six times this one's the one where everyone's in Focus like you gotta delete the other five that process my mind would wander yeah it would just and it would take me forever to get through it yeah and I figured out the audio book keeps my brain from wandering oh that you don't need the visual for the audiobook which is what I'm doing when i'm editing photo shoot so now I'm getting through client work faster which means my profit margin just went up but also um I'm listening to books yeah I'm getting through more books so I had set a goal for myself this year 52 books one book A Week I surpassed it that's lofty I slip past it in July that's also lofty I was like because some of the books are only like six hours long and you get through it really quick right so I was like oh I wish I had figured this out 20 years ago but right now I'm catching up my husband has had an audible account our entire marriage and I just never got he was always listening to books he's a voracious reader whether it's reading or listening or whatever because it's it helps his ADD for sure yeah I can see that it really keeps him on track to do things uh and he'll reread sci-fi novels like giant big sci-fi novels that's insane good morning oh I'm like how do you reread things I've already read audio for sure and he loves it it's like re-watching movies I don't love that I've already done that I've already I know the story I also like listening when I'm driving out to what so I'm from Western Mass originally it's about a three to four hour drive when I go home to visit family so on the way out in the morning I like to listen to an audiobook what's up Junior three to four hours in the car in the morning while I'm like sipping coffee and dealing with you I'm more into it now the music is what I need on the way back yeah to keep me awake do what Kai does listen to audiobooks two times the speed I got through my online course at half the time oh thank you Karen is fun Oh yay um I'm not surprised to hear that kind of when I hear it I that would give me anxiety because I'm an audio person I work with audio and if I hear things that are off speed it gives me anxiety I'm like that makes sense there's something wrong what's wrong so for me it depends on the narrator yeah some narrators speak just genuinely speak slower yeah so then I might bump it up to one but as an audio engineer when I hear that I'm like oh my God I can't handle it if it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks no no it's so upsetting like I know it immediately it's one of those things where I can look at a pile of audio and I can tell you where the breath is what's wrong with this that's how I feel when I see color off see yeah it's the same like if I'm scrolling through online and I'm like ooh someone you see in YK and then they converted into RGB in the app like not good like like I can tell when colors shifted incorrectly I'm curious if anybody else out there is hyper sensitive to your profession and when you see people in your profession doing it wrong or it's just something's off and you're like I can't do I say something because I don't like to be that person that's like that's that's off oh I never say anything it's all in journal about I just I I like to be a mix of that because I feel like I would want to know if something was off but also I don't want to be told that everything is always off and then at the same time I can't live with this alone somebody else has to live with this also that's well okay so I guess it depends on my relationship with the company or the person right so there you go back right like that might be an appropriate thing if I know the person yeah exactly like that and I was so thankful for it because I already knew it but I was so thick and it wasn't a surprise to you at all I know but it wasn't color her colors no that's fine but I mean yeah if you know the person and you can like politely ask me I give you this feedback I think that's fine but if you just come at someone and be like dude this was terrible like that's not helpful or constructive yeah yeah it is that is a thing that um I think we've talked about this on this program and many of times about the kindness factor and how we speak to people and I think sometimes it's just really important to really think about the words that are coming out of your mouth before you just blurt them out or say them to people in a witch and I I'm very black and white I say things not very nice sometimes and I have to remind myself to have that extra conversation with myself like how am I going to phrase this that is not going to really put somebody off without because I'm just a blurter I'm like that looks wrong so the first it's not helpful or constructive the first important piece to that puzzle is is not reacting thinking before you speak my face says it already going Seraphina okay but you're on the right now thank God so again I'm a planner I'm strategic the feedback I offered you this morning I've been thinking about for a month you should just send me a text what's up with this because that's what I do well but that's not always helpful no it's not always I would be off-brand from right right I am very strict at branding I love it see yeah so many resin artists don't do a flood coat and teach classes but ask me for all of the tips no oh that's the work uh the amount of free like hey I just want to pick your brain get all of the tips and then go do it themselves and then it doesn't come out right yeah it wasn't a professional doing it these are some of the business things that really irk me a little bit and so working on the way you offer constructive criticism and also people that call you and bother and waste your time I no word of a lie gets six phone calls a day that people are just derailing me from a job I'm supposed to be doing to ask me for things that take away my my job and then never pay me anything you're not even a client oh that's double frustrating like like if you're one of my clients and you ask me for that's fine for my time absolutely it will help you yeah or or if you're a really good friend of mine absolutely because I'm gonna call that favor in at some point not a problem right but yeah a complete stranger taking that free consultation no you cannot have my intellectual property and then then rework it and steal it it says trash bag it makes me sick this summer good job Kelly said I like when people uh do things off LOL the world tries to be too perfect and it's too unattainable that's fair and your time is worth diamonds and gold thank you I appreciate that yeah I do I like quirky people I like odd people I don't mind intentional differences um but doing it wrong is not okay oh terrible um but that's in your field yeah yeah that's specifically I wouldn't necessarily know in in the voice and like I wouldn't that would I too listen audiobook sped up sometimes if the narrator is slow so right would not bother me yeah and I would have an I would have a panic attack I'd be breathing in a bath and even Cliff like you don't know the difference between RGB and CMYK no no I'm like what's wrong with cyan I don't know what this is I know what one of these words are that is all yeah colors do not get me like that but um yeah it it is specific like that and my husband and I will listen to podcasts and I'm like who was it's wrong oh I can't imagine because podcasts you get the gamut right like people do it themselves on their phone and just post it it's the wild west out there right now honestly and there's I was drawn to this one entrepreneurial podcast and I just I hate I listened because I hated his voice I don't I loved the information sound like a healthy choice you could read it I like the information I could but I was driving okay all right so it was like filling the I needed to do a specific amount of research projects I'm gonna need you to clarify are we talking like Bobcat Goldthwait bad voice like her or okay so like a little screaming a little fake like I can always tell people's intention in their vocals it's a very weird thing you can hear people smiling in your vocals you can hear how people have intention maybe I I can um so when I hear it it's so it's fake it's contrived you know that person doesn't speak like so there's like a Persona right okay it's a it's a mask and it's a mask I didn't like all right so it was just irritating me the information and the guests that this pod had were incredible and I really did pick up a few tips here and there and it was for a specific project I was working on doing some market research and so it was I was actually working so I was kind of forcing myself because you want to listen to the top I mean when you're in a business you want to see the people that are the tops of your business in your industry your aspirations it's your vision board it's the way that you do things like these are all the people that are doing it well why do people like all of these things I mean if you're not doing that I suggest that you do that because it's just a good way to gauge where you are and why you're different and where you fit in those cracks I would agree um so it was just one of those situations but I oh I couldn't listen to him and I'm like every put it back on it's like putting something up to someone and saying this smells bad smell it which is rude by the way I'm just gonna go on the record and say like I think this is spoiled can you eat it to verify that's rude how are you how was your wedding season I hope you're surviving I hope it gets a little less crazy for you I know my September is outrageously busy and I've got doubles I've got doubles everywhere it's wild so so September is a big wedding month insane okay it's June and September yeah so the beginning and the end yeah the season because July and August are hell it's way too hot yeah exactly shots can't be done I feel the way about shooting too did you want to have that photo shoot inside yes we can do that did you want that photo shoot at the beach no you have to wait yeah seriously do you want a mountain die I don't suggest that we want to do it at that point in time he said it is crazy I'm happy to hear you're always busy doing all kinds of fun things Danny does a really good job of self-care too and he likes certain things he likes basketball games he goes to like fun shows he you know he goes big Danny Walsh is a a big picture kind of guy do you like sports nothing wrong with that season ticket holder and he like on the court of the Lakers amazing I mean the Celtics and just really enjoys his life so cheers to you my friends I love championing other people in our business there are so many great DJs out there and obviously if everybody's busy and thriving then Champion those people to be busy and thriving plenty of work exactly and you're not always the right fit for people I think that no that's true conversation absolutely I mean I'm a photographer at a graphic designer but that doesn't mean I'm everybody's photographer graphic designer and I know other people in my industry that I refer to when I know I'm not the best fit whenever or my availability isn't right to make that client's deadline like I share work all the time and I think that that's important it's not shouldn't be competitive yeah yeah I agree there are a few people that we take jobs back and forth if it can't be covered and I know that they're good in their field and I trust that they will take care of a person that I care about please take that go run with that job thank you for covering that yeah absolutely and it's nice to be that resource because your clients will come back to you because you re you relayed them to somebody else they know that they can still come back to you yeah absolutely and you'll at least get the job done because that's the goal right getting the job done customer service is ultimately what we're all in it's exactly who your customer is may change but customer service is what you're really doing well I had an instance and you and I had talked about this off the air and I've talked about it on the air about how this woman was attacking my daughters um uh senior photos but what we didn't talk about was that somebody else got back on that social same feed and more like your photos are un under exposed and I'm an amateur and maybe that's why you're an amateur because I would never attack someone's work on a place where that's for posterity it just it's it makes you look Petty and how do I put this it's painful so well not only is that just straight up rude and and I'm sorry but Denise is fantastic kill him with kindness but also to um there are different Aesthetics there are different styles right so some a lot of the um I'm going to call it Instagram culture is the bright super high lit that is a style that is not the rule so I tend to also photograph in a more muted darker deeper black toned yeah staff my stuff tends to be darker and more higher contrast as well yeah so that's Denise's style is just not the super bright crazy right it's a style it's not a incorrect technique so I think that's important for people to understand that it's okay for you to be like that's not how I would have done it that doesn't make the other person wrong yeah yeah so that's the Define line there but if you if you were a self-proclaimed amateur then maybe you don't know I mean you should just buy it right one of those things where it's okay to keep scrolling and keep your mouth closed so that's just it I try and kill him with kindness and yeah her style is very cool but I allow her to change up her style every single time I do a photo shoot with her it's completely different and we come at it from a different space and I'm like this is what I'm envisioning and then she takes my vision and runs with it and I 99.9 of the time I just love something about the work and we'll find a way to use it in a different creative way it's letting her be her creative self because that's what she's good at and it's me very good so that's just ridiculous for that person to have come out I just I cannot stand rude people um Kelly said in the yoga field we love to share our work and have Subs that we can rely on it's important to have that time off and somebody that you can rely on I need more subs so if you're out there and you're like I could be a host I could host bingo I can host trivia I got a great personality I need a little side hustle income please come and see me because it's not for everyone I totally understand that but if you're out there thinking I could do that I would love to talk to you because we we have we have jobs but there's plenty of jobs out there she's hiring always hiring seriously because if it's the right fit it's the right fit it's just like fashion some some I like bright colors and I like this well this person likes to just wear black let them be with their own Styles it's just the way it is um quick side hustle note though um I love celebrity gossip I don't know what it is about it well I I think that that is probably an occupational hazard for you uh yeah and I don't know what's coming but let's go well I just wanted to know have you ever overheard a conversation and thought to yourself now I've totally judged that person I've got a conversation going with Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas all of a sudden he filed for divorce but what they filed for divorce over he heard her say or do something on the ring camera do you spy on your spouse and immediately filed for divorce so now of course Stephanie needs to know what it was yeah what is divorceable I can't choose a ring camera the ring cameras are all outside aren't they yes what did they do in the front lawn that's what I'm saying what egregious thing did she just say something that was like that's it that's the final straw that's what I think yeah okay this wasn't in the first offense yeah but also like I mean I guess if it's recorded you've got proof if that's your thing you're gonna use in divorce court you've got it right because it's been recorded have you ever made the final decision on someone that you saw them say or do or whatever that you were like that's it I'm never I'm never I'm closing this door I don't think I've ever done that I'm not a door closer I know I am I'm like I I close the screen I closed the screen for now I have definitely closed some doors um but it's usually a multiple several layers yeah it's not the one thing there might have been a final thing but it wasn't the first thing yeah but I've shut some doors that's self-care sometimes sometimes that is self-care it was just one of those things that I saw in my in my celebrity gossip that always starts a bigger conversation in my brain and I'm like what was said what it was so egregious so I don't actually I don't actually know the people you talk we don't even care about I don't know who they are right but it doesn't matter part of me is curious you know her she's from Game of Thrones nope I've never seen games oh I know I'm the last person on the planet no my husband won't watch it either there's two of them I've never read the books either but I'm just about um I saw like 10 minutes of one episode Natasha was watching it and she straight up was like you're not gonna like this show and I was like oh maybe man I came home from work and she was watching it and I saw like 10 minutes and I was like you're right I'm not gonna like it it is and that was like season one like I was out very early on if you know then you know I've never seen that but I am curious like what's the and and the ring cameras your front door right right so what did you do in your own door maybe she was just like talking smack out front was like he was like that's it that's whatever okay the other lesson there is you are always on camera you were always being recorded you are not safe anywhere either it's someone's device or it's the ring camera or you're walking up the neighborhood and everyone you know has a ring there's you're always on camera so whatever you do you need to be okay with it possibly becoming public knowledge let that be a lesson to you as we end on that as we're on camera right now she full well know where she was coming you don't need to sign a release I signed up I asked her please may I seriously all right so how do people um support you by grabbing a ticket or supporting the South Shore conference for women if you'd like to attend the South Shore conference for women you would go to she'slocal.org and search for the the South Shore conference um click down little draw down okay and she's local.org and it's only 52 bucks so it's not like a super expensive thing and it's only a quick drive up to Plymouth um so that's easy or if you just wanted to hang out with me let's say you needed some branding or
