knockabout who's ready for a show I know Lisa is let's do it what Sarina and I were in a entrepreneurial book club where Stephanie never read the right book and Stephanie was terrible at this book club I really Su at book club I did I'm what I just had a visual I just had a visual proud of it hey hey hi Sunday Funday has begun here at nakaba and look who I found the Cat Dragged In Miss Lisa Bates straight out of whatever the Dust Bowl well yeah we'll get to what's going on over at the Children's Museum but I was just so excited I did I hadn't heard from her I was like hey you want to come and do like crafts and drafts with me cricket then all of a sudden I leaned over this morning and I woke up to a lovely text message but I mean I do understand you have a lot going on oh my gosh it was the busiest week ever but I literally woke up and I'm like I know what made me hit what it hit me with I was like wait did I talk to Stephanie did I did I make that up myself you blew me up please and I looked at my I'm like oh my God this is from Tuesday I like whoopsie so anyways yeah so we closed for the week and we remodeled and cleaned you like do the spring cleaning or it's it's almost like the garage cleanout yeah like we threw away I had fil shredded they were 20 years old we emptied the attic we painted the ceiling every single inch of that place is now clean and that's not a small feet I mean your ceilings are 30 feet high so um dangerous I hired and I did not go up in the lift though I was tempted well I saw you post a video of It from the Children's Museum I like that's fun why didn't I get a call I want to go on the lift what's up Emily there were 45 different like pictures in the ceiling that were not working yeah right at least and then someone just picked them up to recycle thank goodness I was like them all down I can't believe the transformation that the children's museum has o overhauled undergone in the last two years yeah that was awesome it's it's a great little place yeah it needed it it needed you know and kudos to the people who started it it's a 30-year-old nonprofit and that's rare yeah so I always say kudos to those women who said yep we need a children's museum on K our kids need a place to go cuz they can't be here anymore we're taking them out I need to get them out yeah 100% yeah no also so the big pirate ship is still there though right big pirate ship is still there I mean that's the classic it is the classic it might have to move into a new form somewhere okay you know for the amount of as a mum person it's a space suck oh my God it doesn't it's the size of knockabout yeah and you go up and you come down so and they love it and I get it and everyone who comes in like oh there's the pirate ship we need something better yeah and so we're starting to fundraise and putting together a fundraising Committee just for this so if you're if you're interested in raising money for the Children's Museum come see me because I I have my eye on something but it's very expensive there's well I like the way you think right you know there's money out there somebody will help it's so true um now that I am also on the board for boys and girls club we're working on the teen center um the mesb chamber the amount of work being put into this town is really incredible and it makes me so happy it makes me a little sad that my kids are missing out on it I know but I'm really glad kids though I'm making it better for the next Generation so um so many amazing things happening in our to I want people to say have you been to the Cape Cod Children's Museum yeah like I I wanted to be a destination Museum from the first time you and I started talking about your transformation and when you took over how many years now five I think it's four or five yeah right I think it was five and you were like this I wanted first words out of your mouth I want to make this a destination Museum that is exactly what I said I want to make this a destination Museum and I feel like five years almost you're you're you're here and there was there was questionable times it needed some love so a 30-year-old nonprofit things happen people shift ideas changed you know and and things and so it did go downhill a little bit but it is way it's way back now what is everybody doing for their Sunday Funday I don't know I'm done with my day yeah my day started came in here I'll cover a des no I am so talk about you guys are closed right now we're uh we reopen on Tuesday we had two birthday parties scheduled for this afternoon though K Children's Museum so we were like washing and cleaning and they were like coming in the door and she's like weren't you on renovation this week I'm like yep just finished that's amazing so they get to be the uh the trials of the brand new clean thing is there were so many people working I probably had six different contractors at one time during the week and they were dropping stuff screws and wires and mean they're 30 feet in the air the children I vacum that entire thing today over five hours by myself I wiped every surface and vacuumed every nook I must have found six screws couple of different wires can you imagine if a little kid found them I know I know I can't even hire for that you know you know like if you're respons I'm like oh my gosh that would be the end of us I think every mom is nodding their head going I know cuz we do it at home that's what do there's some things you just can't no matter how much I wanted to but leave it to other people no you got to just get it done I I'll do the final sweep myself thank so what is the Partnerships I remember last year you were the recipient of the seaside the mon and you guys you guys raised so much money but that was reciprocal right so it was so yes so we are we are collaborating with Woods holdo shog graphic we have we were on a grit with them they're coming in to build a new exhibit for us we're adding a water table I've ordered new floors for the area I'm so excited they are awesome Partners so it's a Cape Cod Children's Museum so when you go there you're learning about kidc everything is has part of that theme so yeah we're so excited and actually my theme this year is connection so we're I know I'm corny I make up I I love it trust me I always used to come me on track when Lisa and I were doing our podcast together women who travel better it was one of the highlights of I know I mean we'll get back to it when we have time to travel right now we're traveling into our own town and bettering our surroundings it has to happen yes but when you and I were doing all this I loved your lists I loved your time of year it's like time of year we do this or every day in May I I love those and I find myself I find myself doing them though because they're easy monikers to do and it's a great way to just change it up I'm always looking to just change up my space because we all get stuck in a rut and I feel like that's I think it's so important what you say to yourself yeah and so that's that's why I do it so it makes me say it to myself and I'm like okay is this about connection well yeah I should be reaching out to this organization because that's a great connection for us you know I have themes for you know all different stuff but it's and I'm coming back around to the stuff I did 10 years ago my book is 10 years old this year we're doing some stuff with that just remember that cuz I'm not letting that go no no it's not gone and I'm hiring the little one in California do the I love it she needs a job and I'm like love you here you go when she's speaking of the little one it's her adult daughter she's not a little one she is little but she's not right not Young no in stature she endured the uh writer strike in California and now is she's been through it I feel like her age bracket my go they have been thrown curveballs of life that none of she went to work at a restaurant and it folded because nobody out there's working so the restaurant of holding too so she lost that job I'm like oh my gosh a poor thing you know but she's she's tough she'll be fine and she'll look back someday and laugh oh my gosh remember when I right no job she hasn't resorted to walking the streets yet so I mean she's great she's doing fine I do worry though she doesn't ask us for anything well that's great I mean she my microphone she's one of those people though oh yeah Lisa Lisa needs something to hold she is one of those people that needs to feel their independence and I appreciate that 100% And I keep saying to her and as you know it's not just because it's my kid like this one over here same thing I know they're they're hardworking they will follow through they will do their thing you know I mean they will work which is kind of a phenomenon I'm finding now it's coming back around everybody we I have High Hopes in our youth right now I've got Lily running some what we're calling low stakes arts and crafts crafts and drops we've got construction paper look at the cute little Valentine she's made over here it's for me no it's not careful it's good it's dry you're good oh now I glue on my finger I was doing watercolors yesterday my husband's like are you okay I'm like listen if I want to do this for my mental health I will coloring is awesome for you now now you're covered in glitter I am covered in GL Li warned me as I was like we want glitter and she's like it's the herpes of the Arts and Crafts World it never goes away it doesn't no Glitter at the Children's Museum I'm going to tell you right now don't BR it for your party don't ask for different arts and graphs glitter is Dan because of this we are here at knockabout it is Sunday Funday so yeah we're doing some crafts and drafts and uh you can come on down and grab yourself a beer Robbie's back behind the bar we've got lots of yummy flavors of Seltzer Lisa's having the pink guava right now this is really good right it's like light it'ses I know oh my gosh I I didn't realize how much I needed this that's it and they've got like a little apple cider Seltzer that I like it's just like a little taste of it without having to have a big beer um it's a non Football week uh Sundays are my favorite day for naps I'm still gonna go home and take a nap what's up Robert how you been Tatiana thanks for joining us we're here at knockabout Sunday Funday next week is Kegs and Eggs is it Easter no no K and exit Super Bowl weekends and not that we care we don't have a steak in how I don't even know that so we're doing two different things they're going to have an all you can eat breakfast taco bar for 10 bucks they also have $10 pitches of mimosas Mimosa flights and uh we're GNA be here doing sinters and Saints candles my husband has become a full-time crafter I got him that Cricut Machine and this man love a cricket oh he is like Cricket in the way he is loving it I'm not allowed to touch the cricket at the Museum I'm not allowed to touch a lot of things oh yeah that I don't I don't I'm not good it's not good for me either that's why you and I are friends but Karen like we're here for support does amazing stuff all of our signage all of our she's our balloon girl oh my God she's amazing yeah Karen's an amazing know you can't have her don't call she works exclusively for the Children's Museum sorry what's up Jen thanks for joining us this morning so um we have Super Bowl Sunday next week we've got Kegs and Eggs but also we're doing the Sinners and Saints candles so we got those those just um prayer candles and Cliff has been putting Cricut things on it and we got the oilbased paints to color them in so it's like an actual real life I know right he's like oh I can do that hold on and he comes up from the basement like triumphant with his arts and crafts cracks me up that's hilarious well that's usually when he has something else he's supposed to do talk about someone who's going to need to do crafts send them on over cliff will put him to work they can craft together hopefully me I'll be putting mental health Monday the boys are crafting and cricketing you want to start naming things s Kevin over we'll keep him busy in his retirement yes well I'm retiring too that's what I told him all the stuff I do now it's all you I want Kevin to work with Lil on the history portion of the tea party she always dresses in like the Gregorian time era and I would love it if he wrote something to go along with and you put it like he'll never stop talking yeah he will he will inundate her with I've seen it firsthand Lisa and I had a trip for work that we traveled down to Virginia and Kevin drove us and he's telling us a story and this one's going oh my God come it's like driving with Wikipedia though I'm in the back tell me more I felt like I was watching The History Channel the entire time we were driving I've been to like 14 president Museum I know it's annoying when I get it but for me as an outsider I was like this is this is spectacular I've heard this before I feel like I've got one I don't remember it but I heard it before when you tour remember when we went to man noin you get the little headphones on and you walk around and it's telling you the thing I just had your husband I was like I don't need to have headphones Kevin tell me about this it is really hand because we'll be you know you're in the middle of a tour be like wait whose side was the one he's like no that that would be that side right what's up Joanna thanks for joining us this morning Sunday Funday here at knockabout and that we're doing some crafts and drafts and we're just talking about Lisa's husband who is a history teacher retiring this year so excited I feel like we're too young to talk about retirement but like we're the age of it he's older than me and I don't want him to to kill a student before he gets out so you know it's it's kind of one of those deals but I have never had a time where somebody wasn't on a school vacation schedule my entire life I can go on vacation anytime I want now right it's the most amazing thing to me we were relegated to February April and Summers for decades and decades and then I was a teacher before that that was fun because I had March he had February and April I'm like all right why don't we just so we'll see each other never so yeah that's the most exciting thing to me I'm like woohoo I want to go on October I can go in October awesome I know well since we started the business yeah we we do work crazy hours and honestly we're doing 70 80 hour a week sometimes but Lil's graduating in June and we're going to Europe for a month so this I did not know yeah like it's it's happening so the month of June June which is like I've never been away it's usually like hi holy holiday but we have enough staff right now to be able to have things running knock on wood don't anybody think about quitting before the summer starts and that's the thing too is the remote issue yeah changes everything because even though I'm still attached to the museum I can solve a problem from Iceland as well as I can from as long as you got physical staff you're able to do that and that's really nice and that's you know so I'm excited yep summer fun time here we've got ination of staff so cliff and I have a work conference in Dublin so that's um that's June 8th and then um we're going to do Amsterdam we're doing Austria because we're doing our s Music Tour Sound and Music Tour 100% doing it I've done it I'm screaming the hills are alive and I'm very excited for it they take you to the hills they take you to the Gazebo where you can run around say 16 that one I won't sing that was on yes please sing We stound ofic youth hostel stayed there where they play the sound of music 247 that was an experience for my children staying in a hostel last year oh isn't that fun we changed it up cuz we were gone um that last year of the year before we were gone for 3 weeks and we went from like nice hotel Airbnb hostel Airbnb like anytime to clean our clothes reset our bags because we had a backpack and they did really well they'll be fine and they really liked the Hostile atmosphere they loved having Community dinners they loved meeting new people did our first one when we did one of the our train trips in um oh I can't think of it not Santa Fe Flagstaff Arizona oh yeah and they didn't realize what the hostel meant they're like eating and they it up I'm like oh no no there's the kitchen yeah right go clean your dishes to do your dishes like what that's awesome Tatiana said I've been living on the cave for almost 38 years and I've never been to the children's museum you definitely need to come and take a visit yes and she said I would love Austria she's been there a zillion times I'm very excited for her it's very cool very mountainy yeah well that's why I've been back to the gym I'm like I got to get up these Hills I started doing boot camp at the Sumer in January my boot camp days are over I'm going to like the ladies gym we're going to quench than shout out to Jillian and the staff over there there you go I'm like I get a little 30 minute workout in I'm like that's good we're good let's not get crazy here I just need to be more mobile and I'm finding I'm finally more mobile so that's good getting stronger balance all that stuff y the weight would come off that would be great but I mean probably should stop drinking beer so there's that what's up Nate uh go to the Celtics and Grizzlies game today you enjoy that I've not been in a Celtics game in a long time yeah the tickets are crazy expensive that's probably why I I struggle to watch basketball with all the three-point stuff I mean when you score 60 points in the first half there's something wrong with the game like nobody's playing defense you know they just run run run three-pointer run down the other way three-pointer I've been enjoying Freshman Basketball over at mashby high school got tell was way better well I laughed because one of the girls that I played um football with in our ladies leagues yeah was the ref and let me just tell you not she was older then this woman I was like I am so impressed that you're out there ring these boys these hormonal boys there was almost a fist fight on the courts on Friday we played against [ __ ] there was a kid that really lost his temper and they went to throw a punch and another one of the kids caught it and brought put it down oh wow well the mother to my right was like got that and I'm like oh my God what's happening what's happening and then they handled it they handled it with Grace and I just couldn't believe what I was watching so I didn't need to go to the Celtics I had it all right there in front of me on a Friday night at Mash me high yeah I try and watch it a little bit on TV and then I'm kind of like it's boring yeah well he's in the balcon balcony 300s is the spot to see binoculars I'm just watching on TV I'm good TVs are better the state and age I sat in the last row at the top I was like is there a game down there right guess I'm watching the jumbo what's up Moody kid got the superhero reflexes to catch that punch the best part is they videotape all of their games oh yeah so within five minutes it was in the group chat going around and we're sitting there at the 99 my son's rewatching it fast forwarding it rewinding it fast forwarding it rewinding it sending it to all their friends oh my goodness they can't do anything wrong these days no nope I can't imagine if we had vide tapes around oh it is out there it is out and about and everybody can see it and it's in the group chat so what is in store for the children's museum what are your new exhibits and stuff that you've got um we're really working on the hoie exhibit that's going to have a water table so that's a big thing um we have Irish Fest coming up in March so much fun a ninth the day after yours is yours 8 you're the eth or the nth Sunday You're Saturday we're Saturday okay yeah the nth without it in front of me I had no idea is it it awful February school vacation week we have a ton of stuff we have a new event calendar at the top of our website please go there perfect people still showed up and I felt bad even though I posted everywhere that we were closed I put it on our website and people go and go it's it's not on your website I'm like what it is once again when you're parent you're so busy and you just can't like like giving prizes to all the kids that came who are now like sorry it's a dust bowl here's a sticker prize bucket so um yeah so I'm excited I'm just excited to have this behind me and like some other big things behind me like we had our first adult Night the country night that looked so fun it was really fun shout out to The Family Table collaborative F you all that's their bread and butter they are fabulous for events if you're looking for someone to feed you for an event really contact The Family Table collaborative and they're a nonprofit like us I met Jenny at I had to go to some conference or something in Yarmouth and she hosted it yeah and I thought you know conference for whatever dry bagel and a muffin here's your coffee whatever not with a Jenny wheeler event wow so I walk up to the table I'm like Oh my look at this food and then she haded I'm like she goes oh no I don't do bagels and C in muffins and I'm like you're kidding me and we were just putting this together I'm like do you cater she's like yeah I'm like I'm like will you cater an event our first adult event at the Museum so much fun the adults had it we did line dancing we did the whole they had a ball see and I don't mind country music Nate like I feel like it's very divisive you either like it or you don't by Moody you either like it or you don't I'm like okay with it it depends some of it's fun I like learning how to line days I'm so bad it's barely cannot follow directions or it's a big hit right now on the cape and ride that flash in the pan while people are enjoying it you're up you're out you're moving your body and I say yes to that we did we did a we did these seashell like Mosaic Modge Podge the whole cool people were loving it I'm like I don't get it I I leave that up to everybody else that works there not me I'm like whatever you want to do just tell me what I have to go buy that's right I'm the same give me a shopping list here you go so anyways yeah so we want to do more we want to do more adult nights and have you know even a young people's night this is more of an older person's night yeah so yeah us it's a beautiful space it is an event space and you can rent it for birthday parties anything that you I think I told you I was G wanted to do a comedy show and a good friend of mine is a comedian so I asked the headliner over the summer I said hey would you ever perform from a pirate ship and he looked at me goes yes right like absolutely I would that's why I like comedians there's really not much they wouldn't do for money you think about it for minut he's like what and I'm like a pirate ship he's like for real like yes definitely yes definitely stand up there have your you know have your moment at the the front but you know then I love it well we need to do some yeah seriously I would we're going to be doing some collaborating because we've got a lot of symbiosis going on yes uh knockabout has a ton going on if you blink you're gonna
