Tara and Peter on more about Habitat Cape Cod, Ride, Walk

saraphina and I were in a entrepreneurial book club where Stephanie never read the right book and Stephanie was terrible at this book I really St at CL I did not fabulous I'm what I just had a visual had a proud of it hold on right good morning everybody and welcome to the show this morning luckily in studio I have got Tara with me and also Peter from Habitat for Humanity thank you so much for coming at early o'clock to come and visit us thank you thanks for having us great to be here this is like pre-work work it's early sorry guys because you don't do enough here on the cape that's right we're used to it we love getting up early miss the traffic yeah some posted yesterday and I think it was just to inside a riot on one of the Town Pages it's been really quiet like not that much traffic this year and I was like oh boy here we go let's get the popcorn a bit absolutely ridiculous so there is so much going on with habitat good morning Ashley thanks for joining us that we have to like spread it out over three shows and I think Sandra did a good job booking you guys in with a different act habitat is connecting cape and uh Peter is here I've got the CFO of habitat of Cape Cod but also put on your other hat or helmet if you will right look at him he's like okay I'll put it on he's ready to ride run and walk for habitat is this the look this is the look I totally love it now when is this event happening this happens on um it's September 15th Sunday it's um 8 to starts at 8 o' 8 AM to 10: am depending on the event you do it we have the events finish at 1 o'clock H how many years have you been doing this the ride has been six years this our sixth year for the ride for homes in the first year that we're doing a run walk as well okay yeah get out of the way because we've got bikers I know we all complain about them listen they're doing some for the the good of all of us they've been working on it for a while how long do you train for this it's a long ride it is um there are there are actually three rides one ride is 12 miles along the canal very flat One Rides 20 miles very flat along local roads and one ride is more challenging it's um Rolling Hills and then to the um bound with shining SE path and back that's from uh the canal to Woods Hole and back they all start at the epit training post which is right on the canal 24 epit Road perfect um yeah we have to make it more I feel like habitat's like but but wait let's add another like to this right and the training it it people bike as you know all summer and it's um depending on the distance you want to do and this is a a spandex or spandex free event people do you know bik the road bikes they do ebikes so it's a very familyfriendly non-competitive rides for the rides the run walk is also non-competitive it's a 5k or 10K right along the canal or actually do your own distance as well that's amazing how many people usually turn up for this event I think we had like maybe about a hundred go yes exactly 100 yeah I I love watching the for whatever reason the weekend always coincides with 47 other things that I have going on welcome Cap Cod well the the key part of it is we try to finish and it used to be really important to finish before the Patriots game starts right now it's may not be as important who even is a patriot we don't even know like I've not watched any pre-season either and I'm usually a total freak when it comes to football stuff like that and I'm just not so you're good regardless Peter you're fine how do you keep all of the the finances together for this organization I feel like you have so many ways to connect with the community but also so many needs how do you decide what project is going to be funded next yeah it's really hard and what we really try to do is um you know the as the projects come we um do make the funding and sometimes out of our control it's um basically due to uh when the the towns have land available for us as soon as the land's available we'll jump on it and start the build and then we you know schedule based on our construction schedule Tara is the key person really on raising the funds and um works with the rhythm of our bills as well I like that the rhythm of our bills that's what I'm going to refer to it in my home now I love it Rhythm Of Our Lives yeah right well Tara talk about your story a little bit how you came to be at habitat because I think it's like a big thing oh I love this story and I love sharing it so um I've been with habitat I guess almost eight years now and um I love the organization so much I'm so passionate about affordable housing I actually bought a house affordable from habitat many many years ago before I even had the job so I worked at another nonprofit and I actually you know always had two or three jobs I was never just doing one job like everybody on the perod yeah and um just went from rental to rental not great situations um and one day I just Googled affordable homes on the case because I wanted to stay here and raise my family here and I was tired of moving around and tired of paying so much money for my rent and being so poor because my rent was so high and I welcome to C God everyone it was a long long journey and um I saw so I Googled affordable homes in this house so Habitat homes are if you don't know they're deed restricted so when someone buys a house from us if they want to sell someday that's great that's fine but we sell it again at an affordable price to a family in need so I bought a resale that that family had built a house with habitat you know 20 years before or whatever and they decided to move and sell their house and that's great so I bought it at an affordable price and we've been there ever since and um I love my house and it it's such a pleasure because every day whenever I'm doing something with habitat because I work there now is I get to meet someone and say did did you work on my house because my house is like 20s something years old and just yesterday we had a volunteer come in it was his 25th anniversary he was an older gentleman and um were kind of giving him his you know his little present and applauding him and taking his picture because it was his 25 years and I asked him if he worked at my house and he sure did oh wow it was really nice so we wouldn't be here my my kids we my family we wouldn't be here without habitat so I'm just so grateful and I'm lucky to work for the organization as well I I it's a full circle story and I love talking about it and I love I'm like here tell Sarah Tara tell your story because it happens it does because I know there are a lot of my friends people that I come into contact with that are frustra they're frustrated with the housing market they're frustrated that they don't have help they're frustrated that maybe they even have the funds but they can't allocate them because there's not a house in their budgets it's just really wild what's going on with our housing shortage and situation you know we're in a real true crisis um it's just awful and it's really through no fault of their own yeah so and I think people are starting to realize that like um this is kind of everyone's problem right now one nice thing about habitat I'll just say is we have you know we have our current bills we have our upcoming builds uh we're we're so busy we have stuff coming up in fouth orans um just Yarmouth but one nice thing that we've done is we raised our income limits so we used to have um you had to make what was it under 60% under 60% and now we have under 60% of Ami which is area median and income now it's um under 80% so there's two levels that kind of makes sense you can look at our website habitat capap cod. org and you can look under home ownership and you can actually see you know um a form that'll tell you if your income balls in the right in the right you know guidelines and you also have so many volunteers that can assist if they have no because some people are just not math brained you can't figure that out you don't know what it is I'm stressed out there's so much paperwork and it really scares people away sometimes because they're afraid to ask for help please ask for help definitely apply so if you look at our website we don't have applications open right today because we um closed applications a while back and we're kind of still going through for our next builds but we will open them within the next year and I would say look at the if you're in need or any of your friends are in need or your family look at our website look at those guidelines and see if you fall under if you didn't qualify before you may qualify now um because we had raised those income guidelines where we we kept the lower income and we did a higher so now there's two levels so we're not cutting anybody out but it's just it's so important we got to keep we want to keep our families on the C absolutely good morning Lauren Cindy oh thank thank you speaking of anniversary my 21st anniversary is today congratulations God your 21st anniversary you can drink right right yes our 21st anniversary of our wedding now it can Drink All on its own that's a problem H so I'll put up with him Monday I you remind him that it was this week I'm sure you did he's like that's not this week and I was like but it is he's like what day is it oh yeah wonderful organization there are so many people in need Kelly uh says thank you for all you do Mary Victoria thank you guys all very much for checking in on the show today I've got Peter and Tara they're here to talk about The Ride walk run for homes it was the Ride walk run then it wasn't then it now back it's back so it's called The Ride for homes and it's presented by cam appliances there are huge sponsors want a shout out yeah Cam's been wonderful to we have a we have a lot of relationships with great businesses on the cape that do a lot of in-kind stuff with us and um also monitary donations but Cam's been fabulous one thing that cam does is they donate all the appliances to to every house that we're building so it's five appliances it's dishwasher refrigerator stove washer and dryer right um so and I think it might even be the dehumidifiers too they do a great job wonderful wonderful we're really lucky to have them so we've had this ride for seven years now it's Sunday September 15 and it's a bike ride there's three different routes as Peter mentioned in this year we wanted to include more people we had a lot of people that would say I'll ride for Habitat but my spouse doesn't ride a bike they're not you know prepared to do that is there a walk run option so we said yeah we'll do it so it's not a race it's just a fun option to join us and help raise money perfect it's $95 to register and it's $300 minimum for fundraising but the 95 is like included in that 300 so you really only have to raise $25 and then you get the great event and then we have lunch after we've got live music you get a Tex shirt yeah you get a shirt very cute love the colors so much fun great event for the whole family and it's a beautiful location I'm not going to say it right the up toxic Trading Post is if you haven't all done very well with that yeah yeah right on the Cape Cod Canal yeah and if if if you're the Run Walker the first um the first 25 run Walkers or raise the minimum amount they get an $80 free certificate from Handlin so $80 can buy a pair of shoes I just got my shoes or close to get a pair ofo the only place that I buy my sneakers is at handland it's like the easiest process I love that support local business and they have the good ones that I need for my feet I walk in I try them on I'm like good we're good they're like nothing else I'm like no bye it's just easy I love them to Pieces yeah get your sneakers from handland shout out to handins because they were so nice to us too they just gave us the you know a bunch of $80 gift certificates to help us Kevin pck the owner is a great person a really Avid Runner and supporter walk but this is the true Testament to Cape Cutters we're always assisting people and like what you do is really so just very needed no one should be blinking at the cost of this think about the cost of building a home you know how expensive things get and to keep people with a roof over their head and keep this organization going I think it's just so important that we do and participate in this even if you can't run walk make a donation to Habitat at any point Tara I know you've got your stack of stuff here because you're afraid you're going to forget things because there's so much going on um but what do you think is like the most important thing that people need to know about habitat in this in this RunWalk well one thing it I don't know if this is the most important but this is what comes to mind is before I had this job I always was like well they build houses and they sell the houses to the families what do they need money for I didn't understand it and now that I work there and I have this job and and Peter can speak to this as well I understand that even with volunteer labor even with so much support and donations and everything that we get the house has cost us so much money to build they still cost us over $300,000 on average to build a house and then we sell it for so much less because we sell them at an affordable price so we always have to fundraise and I just didn't really get how like why habitat always needed more money and that's exactly why because we've got to keep building more houses yeah this like a key key arrow in our fundraising quiver is the is this the Ride walk run it's really important and it's really inexpensive compared to like other major rides which are thousands of dollars but the KE point is not the money the key point is why we're doing it we're doing it to build homes for Working Families on Cape godod really yeah I mean it's it's pretty incredible maybe you can talk about some of the volunteers that you have because I know we started talking about your 25th anniversary volunteer but there are so many people I know Dave hegner shout out to Dave hegner Dave he's everywhere constant supporter of all people when he retired here he didn't just say I'm going to go retire and sit on the beach no the man like all right I'm going to pick up a hammer and I'm going to work and I'm going to donate time and I'm going to show up for all of these activities every single run Walk activity that I do and you know that's a lot this man will send 25 50 bucks Just sh all the time all the time it's pretty incredible and I know there are a bunch of Dave hegnar of the worlds that you have because you have to so I can say that um I feel like just working in habitat really reaffirmed my faith in humanity not to be cheesy but honestly I I literally think about these people that we get to meet we are so lucky we work there but we're surrounded every day by amazing lovely dedicated smart like super skilled volunteers they make up our board their family Partners mentoring families they're helping out at our restore moving furniture cleaning furniture they're building houses they're baking they're making snacks they're coming into the office for all kinds of meetings with their expertise it's all out of the kindness of their hearts it really is and they want they they mov to the cape or they grew up in the cape and they want to support the cape yeah we're really lucky and one one thing is we live in a retirement community I feel so today is National senior citizens Day by the way just in case you're out there happy National senior citiz well I laughed at my husband as we're celebrating our 21st anniversary I'm like oh perfect day just always remember that feel like a senior citizen yeah we do have an elderly population and older adults population but they're they're wonderful they're so active and they're so giving and we wouldn't be where we are today our our organization is hugey old swinging Hammers and building houses it's incredible we do yeah we keep them hard at work yeah we're starting to get now people that bought homes originally they now retiring and they you know the kids are still live in their homes and it's generational change they that's the one of the values of these homes is they're you know generational change because people have a fixed price mortgage they um are able to save money for the family and their kids as they as they age Yeah Ashley was saying it's a great thing that I love about habitat is they repurposing things from other homes you guys now have me on this thing I drove by somebody that was pulling out all their cabinets I was like did you did you have habitat H demo that we have a great we have this great program called the deconstruction program and it is great because it's very habitat like don't throw those old cabinets and old appliances away we have a team of volunteers that'll come take your if you're you know remodeling whatever we'll take the cabinets out contractors love us because they don't have to pay their crew and it keeps them out of the landfill we take them back to the restore we have a store in fouth and a store in Yarmouth they're open to the public we sell the cabinets we sell the appliances we sell lots of stuff from your house some of my favorite shopping is back there I like going into the back left of the felma store because there's like knobs and all kinds of like weird random things I found a whole new latch for my screen door in my backyard and I was like oh thank you 10 bucks bu a whole new door you have to go to the restore if you haven't been Falmouth and Yarmouth and they're both different and they have different stuff every day so that's kind of like you and you can't walk away if you see something you like I saw a beautiful little because my house is all restore I buy everything from restore because I have kids and dogs yeah um and I saw this beautiful little end table I was so happy I'd been looking for it for a while and I walked away ma it was already sold I like oh no you have to like take the tag or you know buy it quick if you see it on Facebook they have a great Facebook page I think it's probably like restore Cape Cod yeah but if it's on Facebook it's already gone you know it yeah some people some people go there once once a week or a couple times a week just to see what's new it's great I gota I love to tell people so my whole house is restore because I was like I'm not buying a $900 couch I'll you know when I need a new one so I got a beautiful white leather couch for you know $70 from the restore I love it so much and the first day we got it my son's like eating spaghetti and the dog's next to him and he spills it on the couch I was like whatever we just wipe it right off good as new that if that couch lasts us five years six years I'll be so I know right that's a win I hear you makes me a better mom cuz I'm not like don't jump on it like live your life it's fine it's already got like a couple dents it's right that's like we can't have nice things I've got a I've got a petting zoo in my upstairs it's just what it is so if you guys have furniture or you know HomeGoods or lamps or things you can just go on the website um restor cap cod. org and you can upload pictures and they'll actually come get it they'll pick it up how awesome is that it's a service everyone jump on to this I don't know why more people aren't using it good morning Miss Emily the event we it tells you about the the postevent situation between 11:30 when you finish one o'clock there's there's a a barbecue with Burgers hot dogs chips there's a spin to win games for free there's drinks soders plus uh a beer and and Cocktails and entertainment live music by Paul Horton who's a local musician so good very fun how do people get involved if they want a sponsor give me a call ter will come right on over we'll have tea I know I actually have a i because I was like I cannot keep all of this in my head honestly but we have so many wonderful sponsors and we still have people for a good cause and a lot of those sponsorship benefits will include like bring your team for free and be a part of the day you know that way you know if you you want to do some team building with your staff It's a Wonderful way to like just get together and have a great day with habitat I love that I know um we've got some teen volunteers especially the football team are their opportunities for for those teenagers to assist you in some way fashion there's H yes we need help at the ride there's we get there at 5 am and we're setting up T we're setting up TBL so if people want to volunteer for the ride that's great too definitely you know contact me and and also you can volunteer with habitat in a million different ways so they can get involved on a build day something like that we love kids so we'll have a great time perfect I think that this is a great way for you to get the kids involved I know I see a big difference in my teens when they're out there volunteering and showing up for something it definitely makes them part of the situation and I think it gets them ingrained into the organization I think it's a really important organization we had encampments in the rotary I saw that like I saw that what what are we doing to address the issues of people without having homes it's really quite a scary situation and where we are on the Cape there's limited area for us to build and we buil we'll buildt we're coming up on 200 homes and now we're building 10 to 15 homes a year so we do all small part 200 homes 200 homes yep all over the cape in the past we've been around for 35 years that's incredible nearly homes every town on the cape yeah so our next bill so right now just so you know we're building in Brewster we're just about done so we're we're almost done with that project we're so excited that was a woman her name's Beth Finch she literally like called habitat long story short but she was like hey I've got some land I live in this house I'm not using this so right next door and we built two houses on her property so it was wonderful a wonderful gift to Habitat if you land is a struggle for us so if you know of land that we can um look into if someone wants to donate something like that we actually got a pretty big gift uh last year to buy land or to work with land and sandwich so we've been working ever since to find like a lot of land and um it's it's a struggle that's our biggest I would say is finding land on the cape but um so we've got that build in Brewster then we're going to be building in Dennis and in Wellfleet very soon like come October we'll probably be raising walls so we have all the applications in and we're probably on here promoting applications you know six or eight months ago a lot of people applied for these homes good yep and that's another job that volunteers can do is volunteers actually help with applications and then what happens is we go through them and say a 100 people apply we have to make sure can they get a mortgage can they build with us um you know there's lots of stipulations and then we narrow them down to a smaller group and we actually just do a lottery a drawing and that's how the families are chosen it's the fairest way to do it think it's important that you do set them up for Success you're not just like buying this house and then you're on your own you want this to work out you want these success stories you don't want these houses to come back no you don't want to rehome the homes and they do we do like home buyer classes with the families there's Home Maintenance workshops and they help build so that's one of the things a lot of people think oh habitat houses are free or the family builds and they get the house for free so they they're not free they they help build and then they purchase what happens mostly is we do something called Sweat Equity and that's in lie of a down payment so they still have closing costs and they still are going to have a mortgage just like you and I one nice thing about habitat is that mortgage doesn't go up and down with your income after you buy the house so I actually was someone who had like a Section 8 before and um had affordable rentals and it was a real struggle for me and I can say it's a struggle for a lot of families so many people like that on capcon and I think it's important if you're watching that right now to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel people are working to help you yes it's not just going unnoticed yes and it's so much and so when you have affordable rental your income goes up and down so if you get a raise all of a sudden your rent goes up and you can actually lose your rental they can say you can't live here anymore so people are like don't give me a raise please don't give me any more money it's gonna you know hurt me hurt my daycare hurt my health insurance hurt my rent habitat house once you buy that house you can shoot for the moon you can open up your own business you can do whatever you like because your mortgage is stable it stays the same a lot a lot of people are are nurses their trades people they're the working people at Cape Cod that have our that have our homes families and they just can't afford a home without without being AF yeah I know I we' have two of our friends that have are our single parents and they're really just out there struggling I I they work so so much and uh it it makes me really upset that there's not a space for them to jump into the market to get out of that rent cycle because the rents are ridiculous here if you can find a rental yeah and that's the other struggle is there used to be not that many but it was like findable I find more and more now that there really aren't any rentals and they're like $2,000 a month or more nowadays it's crazy I know someone fairly recently was like oh my so and so has got a place for rent and Dennis I'm like awesome I'll kick it around to the people that I know $3,400 I was like okay not the people that I know somebody else good luck to you it literally hurts my stomach I'm like how do you come up with that much money and how do you eat monthly absurd to me that that is what that your housing cost is yeah then people can't afford a mortgage people can't you know get a mortgage but that that that payment is more than a mortgage payment 100% yeah oh it absolutely is it's astounding what people are getting for rents at this point in time rtb thanks for joining me I wish that I was with you this week so we were getting ready for uh Carnival I will not be there this year I'm going off to main my daughter's going to college like this whole year this September will be here before we know it that's why you need to get signed up for for Ride walk for homes because uh it it's going to be here before we blink but even yesterday I got an email from the superintendent like oh school starts next Wednesday I was like I'm the worst parent a because I thought we started after a Labor Day B uh Cody you got school next week no I don't oh no yeah you do I'll forward you the email how was that summer reading going everyone it does it comes up quick and you have to do the haircuts and the back to school shopping and the backpack and this is all this weekend for us now we've got to like slam it all in and I just feel so rushed I'm in the same boat I'm so nervous I'm like we need clothes we need a calculator what kind of calculator like what you see all the ads on TV now too for exactly all that stuff yeah exactly haircuts I'm like they've got mops they need their haircut and everyone no that's their style right now I don't know what it is they all look like the the butt of a poodle I what I don't know what it is I know you know what's fun though is we went shopping the other day for my daughter and not to get too off track but I noticed this I might be a little late to this but the style from when we were growing up is back oh yeah so all the stuff she was putting on I was oh and then I'm like am I too old to put it on again I'm like I already lived that and it wasn't cute you're gonna hate these photos later I there were kids I was dropping Cody off for football and these kids looked like they were 35 I I the mustache es I'm like stuff like that I've already lived they looked like my dad in the 70s they're so cute that kids in high school okay Kelly said $3,400 is double my mortgage and it is sad it's super sad very difficult to deal with at this point in time we've got Tara and we've got Peter here just to reset the table a little bit they're joining us for habitat of Cape Cod big shout out to our friends over at cam Appliance I know a lot of my friends are using them for their culinary incubator they have a kitchen that they it's a commercial kitchen that people can rent so baby businesses can go and rent I've got um shout out to some of our mashby Farmers Market vendors my go-to bars uh Cap Cod pickles they go and they use and they produce their products because it's a commercial gr kitchen they're allowed to run their business from there it's so many incredible things that they're doing and I'm just I got to give them uh some accolades and some credit yes I understand that everybody's got to run a business and make their money but they do it really well and I think it's so important to highlight the fact that they're giving these people appliances for their homes to start them off on a good foot yeah exactly they're highend appliances too they the newest stuff it's incredible and not only that are they they helping out baby businesses so it's Kim's a great organization we love Kim as Stephanie said they are donating they have been and they continue to donate all the appliances for all our habitat Bramble Cottage uses them too and if you've had any of Kelly scones you know they're absolutely delicious irresistible and uh also she's looking for commercial kitchen because she's grown out of her britches all of these baby businesses are like somewhere in between like they they need this to keep going but also they need to find their own space too to continue growing at the pace that they're growing I mean we are faced with a serious situation here on the cape for space I was just going to say space is the challenge space is the number one challenge which for us is land but the same exactly it's everybody it's without a doubt and we're looking sometimes to look to to um we have two restores sometimes we look to think is there should we have a third restore and the hard part about it is the land just are we gonna build another restore or we're going to build two apartment buildings or like two houses like what can you do with that land like that's got to be a challenge all of the time yeah and we need a land that makes our restore you know work financially and you know the land is just exorbitantly priced and ass we haven't been able to do a third restore because you know there's no Reon price land for us yeah Sarah says I'm late to the game this morning but habitat is literally the best ever a thank you no one's disagreeing at this table I'll tell you that right now Peter's already modeled the helmet that he's going to be wearing for the Hat this is the run's hat I love that he came with props today the athlete he really is yeah and then the uh the helmet have you been riding for ever are yes to answer your question about training um yeah most people start riding and running in the the springtime some people do it all year round and actually there's Cape Cod Athletic Club has a a series in the in the winter time um and then people in the springtime really kick it up for riding and for H for running Cape Cod Cycling Club is a is a really local uh bicycling club that Cape Cod Athletic Club is a run run walk Club so they're really great clubs and there there runs and walks throughout throughout the summer almost every day of the week and people do what they can and then you build up to either the you know from a bike ride the 10 the 20 or the 40 or some people are building up for let's say a a 10K which is 6.2 miles and this is not to say that you should be pushing yourself to all maximal limits here where you're very generous at offering different points in which people can join you in their athleticism which I appreciate yeah well walk Walking is really important and um a lot of people they have either injuries or they just don't run and so you know this is a a relatively short walk along the canal you can do even do your own distance or you can do one of the the standard distances of a 5k or a 10K yeah this is a great way for you to get involved in this organization that does so many wonderful things here on the cape just to get to know some people I know it's awkward sometimes meeting new people or trying something new or doing something where you're like I don't know anybody there have't tou a great way like just to you know expound upon that great way to make friends you meet the nicest people so like you said if you're not a major athlete you know you just want to walk a little bit that's fine with us fundra raise come down meet us make some new friends um great way to just meet your people yeah I love it definitely get involved in some way shape or form whether it's a sponsorship remember you're showing up maybe you want to learn how to build something yeah you can sign up so I know two women that literally want to know how to build things for themselves and I was like you know what you can do is volunteer and have even just go watch people do it it's a great idea so when you volunteer with habitat we're going skill levels and we teach you so I even shingled the house well done just for fun and they have people that it was good though they have what they have as crew leaders so art we have a big volunteer team and when you're new and you don't know what you're doing you're paired with a crew leader and they watch you and they took my shingles out and said they were wrong and we redid them but I feel great because those shingles are still up I can drive by that build and I'm like they're there they're there forever how fun is that yep so we'll take you you can learn how to do it then you can go home and do it it helps you build that self-confidence so our volunteers put in floors they put in Windows they paint they are shingling um they're doing almost everything with the house except I can say really lucky we have uh Frasier donates all our certainty donates the shingles and Frasier um construction puts all the roofs on our houses that's a donation in um is it Boston marble and granite donates the granite countertops and so we do have a lot of in-kind donors and professionals that do like the electricity um that kind of stuff the plumbing yeah volunteers are not doing those things and they're not doing Roots anymore no more God yep um so but anybody can sign up online so tell your girlfriends to check it out they do yeah they want to actually learn how to build stuff I feel like everybody watches Tik Tok and you feel like you could do it maybe actually go do it in person before you watch it online and think that you can build things yes and have a supervisor who tells you the correct way exactly we're taking that down nice try though Tara they did they really took it down they were like oh not I was so proud of myself because shingles is more complicated than you think there's something with a string and chalk have you done it yeah definely it's not as easy as it looks well maybe talk about some of the things that you have to like what did you Peter what did you do in your your life before you came to Habitat yeah I grew up on Cape cart I grew up in barn went to Barn high in the whole nine yards and then I went to school I became a consultant Management Consultant in h Boston for many years and then my wife and I we came back to the cape about 20 years ago so i i u work grew up in the cape went to college went to work and then you had kind of semi-retired back down to the cave got involved in habitat and then now I um you know joined the staff and became CFO yeah I think it's important that uh there's a reason why people always come back to the cape and it's not just because we're in a bed of courts that drags us back here the full moon everyone's like there's a statistical reason why all of my witchy woo people like were drawn back there uh Ashley said I built a birdh house and but it got condemned maybe I learn to build it better by volunteering definitely definely that's awesome good morning Roberta thank you so much for anybody who reaches out to me I always get back to them perfect anything that we didn't cover today that uh you want everyone to know what else do we have going on yeah well one cool thing is we have our upcoming Blitz build and I know Sandra's coming to talk yes Sandra my cooworker is coming on I think next week to talk about the Blitz the I'll just give you a brief overview if I could it is so exciting so what's gonna happen is we have a house in Dennis and the blitz is the homebuilders and remodelers Association of Cape Cod so there's a group you can look at their website um home builders and remodelers Association of keep C so it's all these great different businesses that come together and they're they all fall under this one organization and they build a house for Habitat for free the professionals do it so we step back so it's going to take place September 23rd in Dennis and it's going to be a one-week build they're going to raise walls and they're going to have a CO which means people can move in within like seven days it's amazing so we're so excited that's coming up and Dennis so check it out on our website and people can come by and say hi so a lot of it's kind of like a reality show it's fast it's amazing we'll do like a timelaps video and stuff but it's a huge gift from the entire so I I definitely want to say like look at our website look at the donors for the blitz like when you're shopping around and you're looking for someone to do your floor you're looking for somebody to do something around your house maybe consider one of these great organizations that's donating their time their Cruise a good point yep and that house will be ready and that family right now their names in a big stack and they have no idea that they won't get a house in a year it'll be you know in a couple Week seriously they have no idea they won't know until they're Chosen and then they're given the news so I just I love the idea yet it's be we haven't chosen the families yet so we're going to be choosing the families for the wealthy and Denis bill that like stresses me out a little no you're stressed out I'm not even involved so just exciting for them because a lot of times a habitat house takes about a year to build because we work at Volunteers in the community and it's that's just the way that it is but this house will be ready um September like 28th and they can move in if they want to move if they are able to they can move in uh pretty pretty soon exting for that family yeah someone's gonna get some very good news very soon and I love that it's like one week after the Ride walk run so that's why I have a stack of papers because I'm like what's ending yeah it doesn't stop we're really busy so we're excited to be busy we're lucky to be busy yeah I do one call out to C- Sports they give us all the bike support for for free so cport support Jeff C they do a great job they support a tremendous number of Cap Cod events and our event is one of them that supported that's amazing if you're not already involved get involved even if it's just going to the restore and doing a little shop and supporting all of the things that they do there habitat of
