entrepreneurial book club where Stephanie never read the right book and Stephanie was terrible at this book I really suck at book club I did not I'm what I just had a visual I just had a visual proud of it thank you so much for your patience this morning I appreciate you it's all good T's like I don't know what we're doing or how this works so I'm just going to sit here and wait for her until she tells me when to go oh it was it was beautiful watching you it was a disaster I can't buy my laptop I was having I'm having a Lady Gaga moment you have to have your own reality show where are my keys I lost my phone what's happening and thank you very much for calling me and asking me what I wanted for a coffee today you're welcome but they um got you the wrong order it's iast yeah um the thing about that was they actually said honey honey I'm so sorry honey honey honey we can't do hot you were honeyed I was honeyed to death and she ended up getting a tip even though she gave you a nice it was all the Honeys yeah it was the Honeys Honeys always work remember that except if you're a woman well that's true we don't like the honey yeah if if I was the honey you yeah no right no no no no no don't do that that right it is a general there was something where I told my husband the other day and he's like you know that's not what I meant I'm like but when you said that oh he told someone to smile more oh no Cliff Cliff no no no but he didn't mean it in a in a bad fashion when you're talking and you're using your audio you can tell when you're smiling yeah it brings up your voice just an octave and it was always something that I was taught when I am reading a commercial or reading for something in radio my you were taught to laugh though you were like you laugh at anything I just watched it oh my God I laugh at myself girl you an idiot I just start laughing no I really I was taught to just when you deliver deliver with a smile it actually changes the way your voice sounds that makes sense I know he's like I know what you're saying I think that that was part of when I was on the field doing um popor or cheerleading oh wow ready okay good times so we have got Jackie good morning thanks for joining us cdy good morning why I answer my customers phones with a smile to creep them out that's great Cindy is fabulous she is uh one of our DJs here at lemon Ado and uh she opens up the com show over at the warf oh no way on Mondays so um Alex GM papa is going to be over there this Monday and uh he is nothing short of spectacular now which Warf is this right across from you 100 yards from my house 100 yards from your home Cindy I'll see you on Monday you can go and see a great comedy show I definitely suggest taking in Alex Alex does comedy that is funny that is relevant that is a little political but it's just poking fun at absolutely everybody and it's enjoyable and that's what you got to do in life just laugh yeah you know yep and he really he brings it let me just tell you I've had him on my show before and he's done nothing like I we can't be together in a room oh wow because I just laugh at him and he's just very flat what's his last name GM Papa GM Papa that's pretty funny you can't forget it definitely worth seeing him he's defin a stoner he's just very like lowkey this is the way it is and then you're like oh my God that's really funny you've got to think when you're with comedians you have to realize how much writing goes into their act before it gets seen by people the amount of times that they've Rewritten jokes they rewrite jokes on the Fly depending on what the audience thinks is funny at this point so Cindy she she was fabulous she plays some good music and uh she gets to go and she'll get the crowd going for us for sure very cool so when you brought me my coffee this morning and the order was wrong you said remind me to talk about Zoe Sana which made me I was like how how does wrong coffee and Zoe Sana go together so I worked on this movie called constellation in Huntsville Alabama um I think it was like around 2000 how did that come up they were trying to make one of my books into a movie it never happened no offense that's why I'm here thanks T um so they said hey you can be a production assistant on the movie so I said yeah let's let's do this thing so my job basically was to get coffee drive people around I drove Billy D Williams around nicest man in the world he seems like a really nice I loved him in fact I told him that my dad loved the movie branon and he's like well let's call up your dad and I give him the phone and he talked to my dad for about 20 minutes are you kidding me no lie I another great story about him was one night uh there was this place it was like the only Steakhouse in you know Huntsville and I was in charge of driving him there and getting him out early because he was supposed to be in the makeup chair at 5: in the morning oh but Billy liked to liked to talk so around 9:00 I'm I'm like I we got to wrap it up you know so I'm about to walk in the front door and there all these guys with like Star Wars stuff you you know merchandise and all that so I go in the back like through the kitchen kind of like Good Fellas you know yeah and I go up to uh Billy and I said Billy we got to go and he said well I I go let's go on the back entrance you know because there's people in the front yeah and he looks at me he goes Ted the reason I'm eating the steak is because of those people oh and we went in the out front and he signed love people that love their fans so the next morning the producer goes to me she goes wow he looks really tired you really got him out at 9: no we got back at around 11 so he was awesome Zoe didn't like how I would get her coffee um in fact it was really when Starbucks was really starting to take off yeah and she'd go oh my gosh I didn't get you know how they get the pumps of this that and the other thing and she's like did Ted get my coffee I'm like oh gosh here we go again your is always shitless yeah yeah and and I was like I always tell people if I just got her coffee right because like I don't know 10 years later I'm at Burger King a little depressed and I look at the the cup and there she is Avatar on the cup and I'm like I should have got her coffee right she would have remembered me I could have been running around could something right you could have been her coffee boy for Avatar instead you have always been writing your entire life yes um really my dad was a writer I grew up you know I've told this story before he would tell us bedtime stories but it wasn't nice and shiny armor and all that he he'd be like I'm going to tell you about a guy who escaped from prison I love that yeah nothing like terrifying your children and I was five years old and and really I grew up with that he would wake me up and say hey on the waterfront is is on right now and I would watch a movie with him at like 10 o'clock at night that's awesome so that that was here's little buddy yeah yeah yeah he was the best and you're actually putting together a book for him yeah so he he um taught in Scotland in ear I think 1963 had quite a story life this one yeah and so when he got to Scotland the crazy thing happened was the Headmaster said hey it says on your resume that uh you know you you coached or you played basketball and he said yeah he said great because we're starting a basketball team and you're going to be the coach okay he said he couldn't believe it he's like well you don't even have a court he goes no they put one in seriously so the first day he got there never mind teaching English which he was psyched about he had to it's like out of a movie like these rag I got a basketball team of Scots and I got got teach Engish he walks in and these kids are trying to kick the basketball into the hoop hysterical and he's like yeah that's not how it's done anyway I don't want to give away the book but he really brought something out of them I love that so A couple of years before he passed I I'm like Dad we gotta make this into a book so we turned it into fiction because that's what we do you know the Murphy's we like we like to stretch a story and uh and so we wrote this book and I picked it up I don't know last year and I was like it's a manuscript right now yeah and I don't know when gonna put it out but after reading I was like I gotta put this out for I love that I gotta put it out for Jimbo well I'm definitely in for it so I'm looking forward to that because I think that that's pretty cool what are we gonna call it it's called the hound dogs all right yeah because uh there's a there's a character in it who's actually not the basketball player but he's the heart of the story yeah and they call him Elvis because he slicks back his hair and he thinks he's really cool but he's really not but he's an awesome kid so you're really good Storyteller just in general not just in on the paper you know what I mean it takes a certain someone to Captivate an audience when they're having a conversation or getting people excited about an idea can you tell my wife that how many times have you pitched though I really want you to talk about we'll get into your classes and all the stuff that you do with the youth but I think it's just really good conversation to have on this gloomy day where you sometimes get down on yourself about the things that are going on and I feel like as an artist you always have to like start the with like we're going to have a great day and it's going to be the lies you tell yourself to get up and get motivated and get positive a little bit you know it's Wednesday it's hump day it's always a difficult day especially for me today I was like right foot left foot let's do this you got this to do I got this pile of stuff to attack I like this we're both like right that's it just drink the latte get it going um but but you do and you have to psych yourself up for those spaces and maybe talk about being a writer and how not every I mean you think every idea is a great idea then you pinch somebody and you're like okay well that was not a great idea well especially with my kids stuff I always run it by them yeah your daughter even she's like no that that's horrible but but that's Lily anyway that's Lily period yeah she she does Channel her Wednesday Adams just a little bad but but it's it's great to get that feedback of U when it hits you know it hits with my kids so I'll be like oh okay I'll put that on the side but you also need other people in your life that's why you're you're a wonderful friend because you you get it because you're you're creative you're you're in the creative world yeah so I can tell you about the gloomy days and in fact I would love to give a shout out to my best friend Mark Penta it's his birthday today happy birthday Penta P happy birthday and um so I can call him up and he knows exactly what I'm going through and I I just let it go and be like and I should say Mark Penta is Mark p.com and Mark is my collabor I can't even say the word co-collaborator there maybe maybe I don't want to say the word um of our books totally weird activity books there he is he says he's right here baby good morning Kelly and happy birthday Mark so he'll he'll send a drawing like that and then I come up with the story starter yeah really cool I love the way you guys work yeah and it's great and we go to schools and um so if you if you're a school out there come on you got to get kids creating and that's our tagline hash get kids creating I love it yeah using their brain a little bit being a little bit more imaginative than just sitting there on a phone or on a device or I know I know it's difficult today but it's a great day to give them an activity book and be like here you go this is what you're doing in in fact I I love how you brought that up because at at the just WR it class they'll they'll actually give me their phones yeah and I always say I feel like a saloon keeper like in the old west you know because they're like ah but then it's not the bathroom key it's the phone it's the phone and but their imaginations come alive yeah when they put this stuff away yeah and um and it's Awakening yeah absolutely and we need more of that they don't have it and it's not the teachers fault because the teachers are like given so much that they have to do yeah that I when I go to schools teachers are like oh we get to be creative for a change yeah and we need more of that yeah it's a spark for sure yeah um I bopped into one of your classes fairly recently and you know they were that was an older class yes yes I'm teaching adults as well I taught at Bost in college for 13 years then Co hit and then I did a thing called math and I realized oh if I had more adult classes I I did a Stephanie pivot I like to call it I love it so so now I'm doing a lot of adult classes and I I just love it because there's people who are in their 70s who who are really they've always had a voice but now they're using their voice on paper yeah you and I were talking recently and I I recanted your story uh last week just talking about this 64 yearold woman that was just so excited yeah to be excited yeah she's like oh my gosh I'm retired and I get to do this yeah so yeah it's it's wonderful that's pretty awesome good morning Lauren I will see you later at the barnow county fair as a matter of fact we got a quick little drop in from the Baro County Fair uh bear with us this morning we're standing outside of the adult exhibition Hall and yearly hundreds of amateurs drop their Creations off here to be judged the official title the superintendent of fruits and vegetables we've got Judy Collins here what are you looking for as people drop these off uh we a uniformity um uh if we want um as for beans we usually have green beans you have to have 15 of them they have to have the stems on the end they if uh at the same thing with the peas G 15 and they have to all be a blemish free and and a uniform in size and um um you right straight from the garden uh the same thing with garlic you only need two bulbs but they need to be uh a 2in stem and a little bit of the the hair on the bottom and they have to be uniform in size and no blemishes and they can be cleaned and um um peeled maybe once uh I see very large zucchini over here uh that's a separate category it's a largeest zucchini every year somebody comes in and um grow grows in order to get the larg zucchini you have to cut uh cut off all the other bulbs and let all the growth go to one zucchini and by the time fear comes if it's the largest you bring it in so we only get one blue ribbon for that join the entire lemonade o crew Wednesday July 24th at 7:00 in the main arena for the world's largest demolition derby and check back with us here at l8o for an insid review every day this week from the Barnstable Cy bear so so go ahead go ahead so her name's Judy Collins that's it so does she sing a song called send in the zucchini send in the zucchini her daughter was right beside us and she was like I'm not ready for TV and she she just made me absolutely laugh and she goes can you please please tell me when this is airing so that I can watch it because all of my friends are so in love with her accent he oh my God got right but the little he in the Z especially in the adult exhibition area and her name is Judy Collins which send in the clowns but no no send in the zuc I love her she is worth the price of admission go back and go check out all the things that are in the adult exhibition Hall check out all the thing can you say that again I thought this was a family show it is totally a family show Lisa Z says two of my favorite people right there good morning loveely hi Jenny and Kelly my daughter has an art fair and I was wondering if I would be there yes I will be there tonight we will be there for the barn spoke county fairs demolition derby I don't know what the weather is going to look like but definitely get there early carve yourself out a spot we're giving away lemonade sunglasses at night I think you talked my wife and I can finally go to to it this is a Ted dream yeah ever since he was a child ever since I was a child I always wanted to go to the demolition derby my parents I was one six they're like no no we have that every day here right you know we live you live at the fair yeah um so I can't wait yay I'm gonna get a fried Oreo oh there you go my son went on Monday with his friend and uh he spent all of his lawnmowing money for sure and then he came home and he's like I think I ate too much oh that's the worst what was the what was the ride where You' stick to it like the gravit oh graviton yeah so I would come out and there would be like an area where everyone actually threw up you know so I was like oh here you go the shake it up area yeah yeah shake it up all over morning good morning Brooke thanks for joining us on the so Nate I have not had a chance to listen to your voicemail I hope everything is okay if you win the lemonade of sunglasses you can wear your sunglasses at night that is true good morning Rick thank you for joining us yeah they've got lemon Ado on one side and lemonade on the other which is our nonprofit and uh we are I have been overwhelmed in that Arena of of just making our nonprofit function and but it's great it's all new stuff I'm learning a lot I had a great conversation with your wife yesterday she's just wonderful she's such an awesome person she's the best she's the best uh I wouldn't be anywhere without her you know there's something he said about having a partner that like Fosters your whatever whatever your crazy is and uh mine has been very frustrated this week because he is working on the inner workings of our game Cap Cod Feud which is taking place August 2nd over at Ryan family amusements in hyenas oh I got to check that out so we're Mak our own spin on it and he's been working on the electronic stuff you know what I mean like I'm the host but we're working on the actual workings of the game the podiums the things that are going to be the displays on the back end stuff and uh he's very he was just like so frustrated yesterday and I was like why don't you just move it over there he's like that's not how programming works so my question is uh Richard Dawson are you going to kiss people or you going to be more like Steve Harvey like hey I think I'm going to be more of Steve Harvey a little less Richard Dawson depends on how it was really cringy when you look back at it so cringy I mean my God because I've been watching all of the old ones to kind of get a Vibe and to get kind of like what would be funny and what would you know be good Throwbacks to do this because we're going to be taping this to be airing on our not only our YouTube channel but I've got a meeting tomorrow with mash PTV and I'm hoping to make this a regular fun contributing segment and I want to give a shout out to onap magazine who is providing us with real real time Cape Cod data so all of our questions aren't going to be just Rando 100 people surveyed it's going to be Cape coders oh that's awesome so it's going to be Cape Cotter like cape Cotter said what's your favorite ice cream top five answers on the board that that really changes it yeah we're we're different we're different people we are different people yeah so I mean just be prepared to have a good time and also don't take it too seriously our prizes are good but they're not like lifechanging hey I have a question for you because I W because we're talking about Cape Cod I was recently called a washer Shore because we moved to the cape when I was four you're a washer Shore I'm 54 years old and the guy who called me a washer Shore left here when he was 13 right and he was born here correct there's some Birthright that you get when you're a cap Cotter no I am also a washer Shore but I married a local I married a Towny I gave birth to yeah I went through this with Cliff one day abolutely I don't get anything no oh you get nothing thanks good night everyone even though you're the Cap Cod guy like if you want to know anything that's going on in Falmouth ever you talk to you talk to a Murphy very true they've got the information for you in fact can I uh I love crooked coast and they have Coast Fest coming up I think oh now I forget when it is it's in August it's August the first Sunday or Saturday in August look it up crooked Coast amazing band I think it's the fourth is it a Sunday or a Saturday I think it's the fourth okay it's a Saturday if it's a Saturday it's the third yeah oh okay you're welcome so but actually by doing this maybe people will look it up now instead of giving them the real information it sells out anyway um it's always such a good thing and I know a couple of our my sister not my sister radio stations but my former radio stations the ones that put it on but they do a really good job and you know I absolutely love crooked Coast as a band I have so much fun with all of them they're all so creative and wonderful and when we talk about people giving back to the community that's what these guys do yeah I I do school visits as I mentioned and they they will put on concerts at like East FMA school at Matt Manchester puts that together he's a he's a third grade teacher amazing guy um so one of my favorites was in during pandemic where they just rented a flatbed and decided to give a concert down the road because they were like we're bored everybody needs to be entertained by us we're gonna just drive this flatbed and make our own little crooked Coast parade yeah no they're amazing and um but the the funny part is I asked my um stepdaughter recently I'm like hey what do you think of my you know wardrobe she goes wardrobe what's your wardrobe she goes you wear hats and you wear crooked Coast t-sh uh sweatshirts like what was it granimal granimal she goes she called me a coost like a coastal I love it today you're channeling your inner W krp in Cincinnati which I love well greatest episode ever turkey drop oh the humanity so good oh my gosh you'll never have a a lemonade O Turkey drop anybody don't worry about it our buildings aren't high high enough we're fine oh man so what what else is going on we have a lot happening uh events on cape.com is our website where you can find out where our trivas are our music bingos are our group that we just formed for events on the cape where anybody can add their events just reached over 5,000 people yesterday and we just started it a couple of months ago so I'm really excited that people are so excited to share their stuff you know there's a couple of jerks in the in the mix that try and put in their advert iing or try and put in their spam because honestly the more friends you get on social media the more spam and dumb stuff that people are just trying to either get money from you get something from you or steal your identity yeah which is annoying yeah I actually just saw a movie about have you heard about this movie Thelma no it's a great movie um someone helped me I forget June Squig squib she's 90 years old she's an actress um and it's about a woman getting her it's based on a true story yeah her identity is stolen and she wants to get revenge oh all right and it's but it's a comedy it's a it's it's a sweet movie and my wife and I went to the Cinema Pub and watched saw it such a great place to go watch a show oh my gosh it's great yeah yeah some good food you just lie back and and the seats are nice and comfy they did a nice little uh change it up good morning to Denise uh so fun she said good morning Cindy she said so what does that make me I wasn't even born in this country you're you're an immigrant we love you welcome yeah right welcome come yes my my parents are immigrants it's cool I'm here now I think people forget like at one point we were all immigrants um and I always try to stress that because I was Irish I was a two- booat Irish yeah what a two booat Irish is is you weren't AC aced in America and you had to go to Canada yep so my family came from Canada back back back to Boston New yeah no Irish need apply so let's let's remember that y welcome my great grandmother from New Finland uh Cindy she's our DJ right oh Cindy the DJ yep exactly good morning Slater hey Jeff DJ Gonzo oh no G really Yep this is not his time of day yeah yeah he's he's going to take it over I'm DJ gon oh and I'm not going to play any You2 for Ted I love DJ gon he's awesome I heard there was quite a party going on in your neck of the woods the other day I'm not goingon to get into T any specifics but I heard it was a little crazy was a little nuts it was where this is it's for you guns yeah um what a great gon's memory is when it was the British Beer company and he was the door man and I didn't know that yeah yeah and he actually let me in which was some miracle that was your first mistake and the guy singing up there and they're and I had no idea that DJ gonz has an amazing voice yeah and he gets up and he sings Elvis it blew the place like we were like oh my gosh and then I was the doorman and that didn't work oh yeah I can't yeah you're no Law and Order squirt guns this one with Law and Order you might as well just leave the door wide open it's fine come on in what bad could happen talk about things that are gone you had a funny Nickelodeon story that made me laugh because I haven't thought about that movie theater in so long used to be on Route 151 and uh cheapy movies right it was like I loved them um back to Penta we saw this movie Turk 182 that we thought was amazing yeah we go home ciso in the gave it like big thumbs down like what but um recently I heard Elizabeth Shu uh was at the leide which we love the leide hi Shelly um at the Le yeah and uh with the best last name ever hussy hussy Shelly hussy the best so um I heard that Elizabeth Shoe was there and it triggered this memory of Penta and I I think it was Penta we found out that Elizabeth Shu was seeing a movie at the Nickelodeon yeah and we're at fouth Heights we rode our Ross 10-speed bikes love it about what is that 10 miles yeah it's a good it's a good clip we got there and we're like where is elab Sho and the guy's like what are you talking about love the rumors yeah she wasn't here and we had to ride our bikes all the way back we yeah I convinced my cousin one time in the middle of the night to ride from like South adabor all the way through Norton just like meet a bunch of friends and she I was like just one one more mile one more mile it's not a big deal she's like where are we right now let's just keep going we did not come home we lived on that Transportation it makes me laugh that my kids will make fullon plans all week long with us these elaborate ride plans with no license no way to get there and just demand us to do this driving for them we would never go anywhere our parents were not going to bring us anywhere I remember a guy unless we rode there on our own power I remember a guy escaped for lack of a better term this was the what it was called it was called the Pocasset mental hospital back then so I'm not that's what it was called and a guy escaped from there and they said he was spotted in F with Heights you know what my parents said to us what get your bikes maybe you'll get a reward they just wanted us out of the house parenting 101 by the Murphy's it's awesome so go find them yeah go find them the things I I don't know how we're still here but we are still here friend yeah speaking of still here demolition derby is tonight over at the barati fairgrounds gone says go Shipwrecked drivers and uh bring home the win I saw that cute little reel that somebody put up from Shipwrecked with their their vehicle she looks like she's in good shape I don't know who your driver is over there but I'm excited is it yeah gon's right in who's driving tonight is it Rob oh gosh I hope it's not Rob they're in big trouble he makes me laugh I really wanted to do the weather being brought to you by Rob because he's got that Boston accent once again like the little he is yeah and then CH Zuki 80 degrees I think him and Judy Collins would make a really good weather reporters she could hold up fruits and vegetables while robbed did the weather could they s could they sing a duet yes please I think it would be absolutely fantastic um today is so many national days and it made me laugh it was self-care day but it's also tequila day so you're doing self-care with your tequila it's also aelia airheart day and you made me burst out laughing to the point where I had coffee coming out of my face I don't know if it was that good where because it just made me it makes me laugh you work with kids you're a Storyteller but this has been something that you have done your entire life so when you heard it was aelia airheart day it's also National cousins day oh really yes I thought this is a perfect story so in the third grade I come home and my parents are like Ted what are you talking about you had to write about your family tree and I apparently I claimed ailia art part of the Murphy it's part of the Murphy's long long lost Murphy and Mrs McDonald in red red ink was like really Margaret and Jim question mark is this true yeah so they had to uh take me aside and teach me about embellishing my stories I'm like yeah but but we're just Irish it's kind of boring I wrote a milia airheart into our family tree does anybody have a problem with that I'll I'll tell you it was exciting for like one recess like the kids were like wow wow and then the next day they're like you you're a liar that he's been storytelling ever since and I just thought it was so cute because it's so typical of that grade though first second third want to be cooler than you are you want to be a little different than what you have I think I was B you know how they'd say the weight when you're a baby I think I was like 15 pounds you know like I was I'm the heaviest baby ever this is Mrs McDonald again like no see a places see Storyteller it's perfect wash aore remix I love it good morning Ashley Alex and Chase con are driving Alex the owner of shipwreck oh boy wow well if you want to own shipwreck you know try to set something up tonight shout out to um our our our lost friend alvy who I just have such great fond memories I actually have a photo of him on my piano upstairs of winning the demolition derby one time and our friend cat who also won the demolition derby so I have both of their photos sitting on my piano I absolutely love the demo derby I have such great memories of there was one point where I had had just had Cody so I had Cody on my front and Lily on my back and I was out there handing out stuff right near all of the Smashing and the crashing I'm like what could go wrong I'm fine with two kids on me right they're like yeah go run run run over there okay with a bunch of amateur drivers what B could happen oh my gosh well first of all I love cat always love cat yeah um but when it comes to alvy when we wrote the book The Running waves we actually sponsored and again I've never been to one with he had a bunch of sponsors but he sent me a picture of the running waves like he you know oh I have a picture of that car yeah and um Aly was the best yeah he did so much for our whiffle ball tournament um a great alvy story just a goon yeah yeah loved them actually I'll save that one for it's a great Al I I loved alv I still love Alie yeah right I know I know and you brought up the the running wave so maybe talk about some of your your books that you have out there that you know may or may not be movies all of these are like kind of floating projects for you right now yeah um well I wrote The Running waves with my brother it's the book is about two brothers in 1994 they've they're dealing with losing friends in an accident and that anniversary was this week because I I feel like I saw a seatan post something about it yes but I want to be very clear about this because people there's some misconceptions about this book yeah the book is about two brothers overcoming loss so when I when I brought my myself to it I was dealing with losing my friend in an accident so it's a fictional book about that and when my brother got sober he said I want to help kids who you know go off the reals because unfortunately we have these tragedies time and time again every year so we sat down and we wrote that book and and it's it was you know writing is therapy and for both of us it helped us but it's also helped people it's it's not a pleasant book yeah it's it's it's a tough book um but I feel like it deals with a lot of subject matters unfortunately a lot of our kids deal with and I think it's actually just a nice like kind of catch her in the Rish like very Coming of Age those uncomfortable awkward moments those moments that everybody has faced with and what you do with it exactly and and and stuff that you don't go to your parent we wish we all wish unfortunately my children go to me with it and I'm like you're not supposed to tell me that I'm your mother that's true we have a different relationship but yeah we we never went to our parents no and and and actually that joking aside that's the beauty of evolving is that kids actually now do come to the parents most kids yeah a lot of them but but in this case when like back back in the 90s we did not go to our parents that was just we kept it all inside and and when you keep it inside it comes out in bad ways Y and that that's what that book is um now here here here's a completely different book another this is a different kind of dark this is really dark um this is not a kids book which is why you changed your author name yes so I I got a deal with a company uh called cro press and uh the by the way I follow them now and I've read two or three of the other authors that are with cro because they're local yes and they're really there there's some good stuff in there different stuff in there the the publisher Mary petite um she's she's just a wonderful person and we really need Cape books in Cape book stores yes please and so keep that in mind all these Cape book stores um so so when she I met with her and she goes you know Ted I absolutely loved this book but I can't publish it thank you but no I said well thanks Mary and she said unless we get a um a different imprint so she came up with with dark Waters books because it's a it's a thriller hey Ashley Hi Megan and then she said how about you come up with the name because I'm known for the you know the TM Murphy right books kids coloring book with yay we're happy we're doing school visits can't have that so she said we can't have that so I always I wanted it to be an Irish first name so I always like the name Declan yeah so but I didn't want it to be like Dean M you know right um so I was like something quick something quick I like how you turned into a leprechaun there so I became Dean Rush right and so we we we basically came about about the deal at the Dolphin um in Barnstable yeah and I came home I came home that day and I'm like hey hun Dean rushes in the house I love that it was born over there I don't think that I knew that story there's something about that area of barnable it's across from the court it's where all the ghost stories are it's it's it's got this like I don't know it's a heavy Vibe yeah so I like that Dean Rush was born over there I think it's actually good and I thought it was really cool yeah so I'm I said to my wife I'm like Dean Rush is in the house and she's like get away from me you creep didn't marry that so so that so this is a Cape Cod Thriller and they want me to write a series so I'm probably 70 pages into the next book it's going to take a while because I don't I tried to outline like a 200 Page book like but my plots go so you know so it's going to be a while yeah but um that's okay read the first one you're you're still having success selling this one and shout out to our friends over at Falmouth Fish Market where you can actually pick this up which I love that Jen and uh Jen Palmer she's awesome Chris great people um they've been nothing but supportive um also the daily Brew uh uh oh my gosh she's gonna kill me no little anchor Boutique y hi ARA sorry sorry because my wife goes there all the time she's got good stuff she's got amazing rotating all the time and as a man it's great when you know what your wife likes to go to so I just buy the gift certificate and she's like boom I'm I'm off yeah everybody's happy here you've supported local your wife gets something she likes and you are a hero and they have your book exactly exactly Dam and they have other uh Cape Cod local books yeah little Anor Boutique is fabulous and she does a lemonade stand there every single week for Tommy's place in the summertime raising money which I think is just so awesome and I know she was specifically affected in her family with childhood Cancers and I I just I love love the amount of enthusiasm she supports so many local people businesses causes and things and uh just please support your locals I I love their videos on Facebook they're they're so great Jan Kelly gets on there great she gets pumped about you know fashion she makes me actually feel like I'm shopping and I don't like shopping so she makes it at least tolerable for me sometimes so it's good we love you shout out to you over there um lots of whales on the cape right now one uh that looked a little crazy in New Hampshire yeah it was two of them so that knocked over a boat yeah that is like my actual fear is just being somewhere where I'm not supposed to be and all of a sudden a whale just like smashes Us in and now I'm in the open water with a whale yeah like that is not that is a nightmare to me I just wonder about the guy videoing it right like like oh wow I really got some he didn't even Shake in his camera work I'm getting this one this is going to make me viral sorry buddy I'd be throwing the phone going oh my God I'd be the one with that b the bad Boston one the baby wheel oh yeah the baby wheel that would be me was that Judy Collins it might have been Judy Collins's brother Tom Tom Collins Toms oh my gosh so yeah that happened and then those idiot girls in chatam they've finally been identified so so this stuff makes me angry yes we've all had a night where we're doing dumb things in public but this one really made me mad because there are cameras everywhere and it's a thing that I tell my kids all of the time when you leave this home remember there is a video of you doing all of the things that you were doing out there in life it's just a good Ru it's a good rule of thumb to realize when you are in public you can be videotaped and things will be used against you no matter what so these idiots rolled up at an art installation and started jumping over them kicking them down knocking them down the whole video is there they've got the one the black and white one but then they've got another camera from nearby I don't know whether it's a ring camera or not with like all of the actual voices and how wasted they actually were and doing this stuff and the amount of hours that these Artisans spent making this art display makes me so angry for you idiots to just start knocking them down H how old were they the 20 something okay yeah I think so they already got into college 20 to 25 so for the younger kids remember you might have to write that college essay of the time I destroyed you know just don't do it no it's horrible and now you're fully embarrassed because it's all over social media and these are teachable moments they won't do that again applying for her job right what have you done lately well well you might have seen some of my work God idiots uh David Tom thank you so much for joining us on the show wait till you see the new mini lemonade o staff shirt oh our littlest employee miss Savannah is GNA be decked out today I know that she's got her headphones and she is ready to go for the barnable County Fair Mary said so happy to hear you talk about your book The F with Fish Market the daily Brew your dad would be so proud oh thank you right thank you yes very cool and uh I may have to talk to you we're writing a community written children's book Buster Rhymes I Love It Lauren yeah Lauren is fabulous she's over at Old places and they do some of our kids programming at the mashby farmers market oh nice which you need to make an an appointment to come and see because it is pretty awesome Brendan priny is performing this week we've got the bone sauce coming it is a nationally awardwinning wing sauce B that is coming and Joe is going to be serving up wings for us it's Wing stock this weekend Oh fantastic good beer good Wings come and see us on Sunday we why I haven't been there is I've had my daughter's uh graduation graduation party birthday party that's it so many things and um summer and this weekend we have my sister's 50th birthday party Courtney Murphy I love you Courtney and um it's going to be an 80s theme so it's my stepdaughter goes well you don't even have to change your wardrobe you just are living right I just show up and you're arriving as is yeah so um I also could I also give another birthday shout out of course Bart Ferris um it's his birthday today as well as we already talked about Penta so enough about Penta um so Bart Faris is my brother-in-law and the first time I ever hung out with him my sister was like I think this is the guy yeah it's got to be like 30 years ago and he wants to take you camping I'm like cool so my camping to me is like hot dogs you know a couple of beers y i i was all for it well we went to the White Mountains and he brought like trail mix and we hiked about like six miles and we finally get to the top and I'm like well where's the beer you know and I want to campfire some stories and beer yeah he's like oh no no no we're we're living it man we're living he's very excited guy so I'm like oh this guy is he gonna make me Spear Fish what are we what are we doing for food here so we finally went to bed after he's telling me how much he loves my sister and at this point I'm oh it was wonderful because I was like I'm gonna tell her to dump this guy you know I can't wait I can't wait to lose this guy in the mountains because I just wanted a be here in a campfire I thought we were making s'mores telling dude jokes right so I go to sleep that's Cap Cod Camp I wake yeah that is Cape Cod camping so I go to sleep I wake up at like 6:00 in the morning and there's about a foot of snow shut up yeah we we had to go back six miles through that snow is this a real story is this like a 1980 story we walked with this on our back through the snow and we liked it and we were fine no so we get back and my you know drives me back to Boston and my sister's like how was it I'm like you better dump this guy tomorrow we are done with him yeah not part of the family so he's didn't make the cut he's been in our lives for I don't know 30 years and he's the best love you Bart Ferris is he still excitable about camping have you gone camping he's excitable about everything all right and and and actually our family needs that sometimes we need that guy who's like come on guys we can do this yeah you know every family needs that yeah so so happy birthday Bart Ferris that's awesome not been camping since no no no I didn't think so just checking I like I I love the glamping thing I I haven't done it but I want to do it I know there's that one in Falmouth there that seems everybody seems to like that one their big Gathering room upstairs is very cool but that's about it that's it well that's that's all I've seen yeah I can't afford to actually stay in those Auto camper things those are expensive so you do an event and they like Stephanie get out bye I'm like but I want to check one out can I stay no no I'm not not spending that that's for sure uh your wife loves dock talk yes doc talk is and I have to bring this up um doc talk is this thing where they do dad jokes but they do it like complete plain-faced so I edit a podcast for the financial association of North Carolina and she it's a very serious podcast talking about very serious Financial stuff but at the end she always waits and it's like an extra on the end of it and does dad jokes to whoever it is that she's interviewing and there are bad dad jokes yeah and are there good dad jokes I don't know I think some are like good chuckle worthies so I wrote one down and I I'll I'll try I these guys are amazing the way they present it so I'll try to do it the way they do it but my dog swallowed the Scrabble letters I took him to the vet no word yet so bad so bad but you can't not watch them just because I feel like they're so Rel like whatever the whole thing is going their kids are playing in the background they're just telling bad jokes back and forth nobody's laughing Jen goes down this Rabbit Hole I'm like what are you doing and she's like I'm I'm watching the dad jokes I'm watching dad jokes what so yeah stuff we get sucked into what are you watching right now um so for guilty pleasure stuff I like to say uh below deck Med Mediterranean so good oh my gosh so I love that in fact my so my stepdaughter got me into the whole deck thing it's kind of like our bonding thing okay and um a couple years ago uh for Jen's birthday I got captain Lee yeah to do a cameo oh my God that's awesome and he's like hey Jennifer happy birthday that's can you send that to me yeah I will I will because my sister's name is Jennifer and I can I can reuse that because she really likes below deck 100 bucks 100 bucks um that's the funny thing about the Cameo thing I got it right at the right time yeah because now yeah yeah shout out to Dr Leone you know who you are and why I'm giving you a shout out continue on so so yeah so below deck we watched that ju Just because my wife you know she worked for many years in the service pleasure TV so you watch the service part of it and and we talk about like oh that's ridiculous right um the other thing is again guilty pleasure claim to fame I don't know what that is okay it's it's their second season uh I think it's a couple of the Jonas Brothers like the not famous Jonas brother um sorry Chuck or whoever your name is I think it's Joe right that's the least famous W is Joe is it I think so so so they host it and what it is is they how do I explain is it the married Jonas brother I don't someone can write in I don't know but the whole point is you try to figure out who these celebrities are related to oh so I like that so they don't necessarily look like they're celebrity people so it's kind not at all they're like a cousin to like so you get like little baby Clues to guess who they lot lot of Clues and they go through I like games yeah they do the like Survivor kind of stuff and and they weed them out so they're they're guessing so they're other celebrities so they're guessing who the the person is okay so I think I could get down with that yeah it was great I'm looking for something right now everything's bad I fell asleep watching alone speaking of your camping story it's literally 10 people are dropped off in the woods and whoever survives last is the winner half million doll yeah I've seen that so I like woke up and I'm like listening to this like it's weird you know when you're physically awake but you can't move your body and your eyes are closed had this moment and this guy is having like this panic attack cuz a bear is like hanging out next to him and he's like I'm so scared it's just not worth being here anymore and I'm like I can't wake up and I'm like oh this is terrifying this was my morning yeah um the summertime though is for those kind of show Frank Jonas thank you Jeff was that gon yeah it was gon yeah gon would know um yeah summertime is for those kind of shows I think because like then then then you you dig in and you watch the real good stuff yeah I don't need something that I'm like so glued to because I I've got things to do and it's a busy time of year exactly exactly um God I feel like we talked about all the stuff that we wanted to talk about today oh by the way our question of the day is I'm always you know you do your prompts your just writs before we get to that I I throw one out every single day because I wake up with like the dumbest thing and I just couldn't find anything in my junk drawer but there's literally everything in my junk drawer so what is the one item that a junk drawer needs to have oh batteries right what is it batteries usually batteries that don't work they're they're used they're always used cuz you don't you can't throw them away and you don't know where to put them you always go like oh maybe we get a like a little charge in this thing my junk drawer is full of dead batteries full of it I got to clean this out dead batteries that was a great band the 80s loved them you have a running list of things that you think would make great band names yes and I can't read any of them right now it's like list I have probably a thousand you think yeah conservatively a thousand of them on there so when somebody whenever you're hanging out with Ted no matter where you are if you say something that he's like oh that make a good band name and it'll put it on the list and there are actually over a thousand on this crazy list that he has but I also don't write down what like Stephan yes because that's the fun part when you go back you go what was going on that night who was I yeah who who was I who was I with who was talking could be anybody but uh it's now yours though that's the beauty of that hey is it okay if I give well I'm doing it go I want to give a shout out to Kevin Riley from uh Speak Easy Cape Cod he does he has this incredible bar that he goes all around like he built it himself y I've seen it yeah and he he did a party for my stepdaughter a a a mocktail party so he does all cool yeah and it was really cool so I just wanted to to thank him for for that a good beverage cart so if you need that for any of your parties whether it's a mocktail or a cocktail he's got a Speak Easy K Cod yeah follow him on Instagram yeah that's nice when you're having an outdoor party like that's I it's needed get outside honestly just we're so full here on the cape with people all right say your goodbyes is because we've been here yapping for an hour I can't even believe it well thank you for having me and again happy birthday to Penta and Bart Ferris and um and buy my book yeah I I should yeah why am I doing that I should be going like buy my book buy my book take my classes but yeah definitely if you like to write and you feel like there's not a place for you well I have the place it's called the writer Shack in Falmouth Heights and I teach kids but I also teach adults and they find their voice and one of my students sarl Dawson she just published a book 13 spoons and the cool part of that was I noticed that in her short stories she kept mentioning spoons and I'm like just throw more spoons in your short stories and she came up with 13 spoons so if you like to write uh um follow me on Facebook the just write it class or on Instagram TM Murphy writer or uh maob trophies on Instagram uh also you've had another famous writer fairly recently that was honored on the big screen oh yes um her name is Julia Cox she took my class when she was nine until she was about 21 and she wrote a movie called nied with yeah with jod Foster insane yeah and um she was nominated well the movie itself was nominated for Academy Award but she was nominated for best adapted screenplay for a Writers Guild Choice Award and she got to hang out with scorsi and all the I've never seen a more proud papa it was like the the the writing Papa I was like oh it's my girl I she she really I mean she is like a daughter to me I mean her dad Jim's like I'm the father right I did I did the heavy lifting mph move out of the way yeah but um but it was my Miyagi moment and and that's but I have those moments it doesn't have to be big or small where a person just goes oh my gosh what what was great recently was this woman wrote something about her stepfather and that meant a lot to me she actually gave it to him for his birthday that's awesome and she said it was the the greatest gift I could ever Mari says that Mariana just loves your class and she's just really she's loving it fantastic she's a great kid great kid and a talent what watch big things coming from her I love that you Foster that whether they're kids or whether they're adults if you're looking to do something creatively with your writing um definitely go and take one of Ted's classes you won't be sorry about it and I love that it always stays in the writer Shack so you really do Foster their confidence a lot yes but I'll come up to class and my wife's like how'd it go and I'm like great but I can't tell you right because that that's the biggest part of writing is you have to have that that positive safe environment yeah because writing as I said earlier is also therapy and a lot of people get stuff out that they they need to get out yeah that's awesome I love that as such a open space for them to be able to explore that so just write it everybody Ted thank you so much for being on with us today uh if you're looking for something fun to do we've got it for you Cliff is going to be over at Cap Cod beer for some
