where Stephanie never read the right book and Stephanie was terrible at this book I really Su at book club I did not fabulous I'm what I just had a visual I just had a visual I had a proud of it we are slowo on the interwebs did it we made it everybody thank you very much for coming over it's cold out there uh yeah it's cold in here too but we're braving through it I I thought itd look like an a total jerk just wearing a card heart bundle up you're going into the tundra the world is cold better bundle up I can't even stand it this weekend it's supposed to be like in the 30s it looks as if next week we'll get back into the 50s so this was just like a small like touch of winter we will see it's Al Gore's fault really for that's where we're blaming things today I'm calling you out Al Gore for inventing global warming it was a myth until he invented it well I I want the warming yeah bring on the warming bring it bring it back I feel like the older I get the like crotch here I get the more angry I get when it's cold out I'm like I don't like this yeah because you start to feel in the knees and whever yeah any I used to mock my elders for this behavior and now here I am embracing it fully when the cold hits I can feel where they cut out my lipomas he's sound like my husband right now how the heck are you I'm not I'm not bringing out the garbage T the season for a little bit of Comedy you know what I think that we could all use a little Rus bit from our regular Lives December goes quickly and I feel like everybody gets a little bit grumpy and busy no Heavens no everybody loves buying stuff for relatives that they hate well you how was your Thanksgiving uh slaps giving was great um slaps giving How I Met Your Mother reference perfect when Dan lion and I are my old best friend we just slap the crap out of each other excellent like one of those tortillas things with your mouth full of water oh uh it it was it was it was full of Red Dog beer I think well you you said you brought a friend to Filipino Thanksgiving yes I brought uh a good friend um landish a Russian friend I love that girl no landish is is wonderful and my family just just F just fell in love with her in she is one of those people that lights up a room with her laugh nothing that I know anything about that but honestly all of the comedians at shows when you go and see AJ think that they've stacked the deck when landish is in there because she genuinely thinks everything is funny she's just really she's a doll and she's a superstar that you want in the front row when you're like I don't know if this comedy bit's going to work put landish in the front and if if you're not funny not only will she not laugh she'll tell you you're not funny not funny just like I know I I'm working on it it's a it's a bit I'm working on exactly good morning Miss Jackie good morning I need a good laugh we're here for you we'll try our best Denise Floyd hello hi hi Jackie Jackie's been to our knockabout shows as well and especially on the Lenny nights how you doing Jackie Filipino Thanksgiving with landish how did this go oh uh the family loved her especially when she was roasting uh my my future brother-in-law and she's like your face is young but your hair is old wait what landish by the way is Russian I did I think I did mention that I think I did but it's just very funny to see where there's like no there's no buffer you know what I mean there's no it is what it is and I'm going to tell it to you out loud it's like a little kid when they say things out loud and you're like we don't say that because we don't say that that's landish your face is young but your hair is old is it because it was gray yeah but but John is Silver Fox he totally bag of head just just like is he a doctor like no that's just his hair I love that I wearing my Mash P shirt because we have got a Super Bowl we're preparing for today speaking of family Mash B is playing in Gillette Stadium tonight oh right off I know so they've got the uh uh state championship finals and uh we're going to play against xxbridge oh okay I was you play against the Patriots just get slaughtered he just mowing down kids bye dud grank came back for a day just like me no like you bam it might improve our record or mashby might put up a fight looking at the Patriots lately yeah yeah y'all stink and I love it that's not great dude keep stinking because the more you guys stink the better it is for the local comp right exactly for all of us that are out here working on Sunday we don't have much comp comption this season it's not bad but Chris will get to be up in the uh Press Box which is kind of cool and Justin from Mash BTV will be down on the field so that's just an experience in and of itself I think just being in that stadium is g to be incredible being in that stadium is is absolutely incredible I've I've been hired several times to do corporates there mainly mainly to like MC and like occasionally do comedy but isn't it overwhelming when you're in a in an arena oh absolutely and they they had me interview Patrick Chong um that's amazing yeah and he said yeah I'm retiring at 34 like I'm 35 I'm just starting we're all on our own path everybody it's not a competition yes it is but I would have loved to have been retired at 34 I don't know what his brain scans are looking like but we really miss you Patrick please consider coming out of rotation yeah it Clos lines Stephanie and Cliff together that's it that's it it's game day get your woolies on yeah big time we were at Walmart last night shopping for Hot Hands uh all kinds of extra snacks for the boys to take on the bus and um the laundry list of stuff last night I'm like nothing like waiting till the last minute oh I I I love Walmart it's every parent knows the r last minute run to get me this class project this I need this's what's the class project this is whatever it is oh the poster board puffy paint I love the puffy paint like I need a project that I should have been working on for the last three months tomorrow um I I need a replica of the pyramids uh like okay and now we're doing projects the night before thanks kids you're you're you're very welcome luckily a lot of these kids uh a lot of gen Z kids know now to um uh plan ahead well like the Boston ones at least the cape ones like we're all we're all backtracked like Uncle AJ help help me out with this Pro what what's it do it's due today like my God that is the project yeah that is what happens so we had a late night run to Walmart last night Gathering up all of these items and we saw what was the project the just nothing he needed all these last minute things that he should have asked me weeks before a under a shirt that's white long sleeve has to be white exactly sorry has to be Caucasian color matters right ex I need a towel why there has to be a new towel yes I need a new towel like it's very random as long as the towel is not on the head I felt like the list was like a mver thing we needed the this and this and don't ask any questions put it in the bag if it's a mgy thing all he needs is is a damn piece of gum wrapper and a paper clip and he's good one would think so I I we came home with two brown paper bags of crap that I don't even didn't know where it belongs or what it was for and I said here you go good luck to you he's not going to do the project he just going to be sitting there in the bag Pro probably probably the dog's gonna be eating all the puffy paint and I'll sniff the ones that are right God I met your sister at a gig fairly recently that was interesting when she identified herself as you I said you're claiming that out loud I'm kidding she was great yeah it's this is the year that like people are uh are pretending to be proud that they know me so that so so that's a that's a start um but but then eventually when I get like a me toed or something like that uh you'll be back in the dungeon ju just like I never knew the guy I'll be like a I'll be like Tony hinchcliff to Donald Trump and just like yeah I never met the guy never met him don't know but if but if Tony killed that night he just like best friend the whole time why are people like that it's wretched because we're all slime that's why we're not all slime we will betray you so fast I feel like that's comedians though oh that's everybody who did I watch that's got a new standup show that I can't I feel like was canceled for a little bit and now he's back he kicked off the special with a trans joke I was like oh boy oh that that's that's literally every comedian on Netflix they're out there right now if I had trans jokes I could have a special on Netflix but I don't because it doesn't interest me to make fun of them yeah I don't I don't know Anthony jessick oh Anthony jessick how was the special actually was pretty good he had me for about half of it and then I kind of trailed off because that's kind of how we it was okay I like jessl neck a lot you do have to be a fan of that type of humor because there's definitely he's very dry there's definitely a lot of genres of of Comedy if you like dry delivery you will love you will love jessl neck and I also saw Matt R posting today that said he has not had plastic surgery he just grew up he hit puberty late I believe him I do yeah because if you see him on wild and out facing Jacob Williams who has headlined a knockabout before so Matt re you can you can come to knockabout and upow your your old uh wild and out rival Jacob Williams well he did start his career on YouTube right I mean this is where on MTV that's where he started all the things y if you see a if you see a picture of him then you could you could see like yeah he definitely did not hit puberty a child right he looked like a child but but he was he was very much a grown ass man there and he'll even tell you that too all right I'll give it to him I'm not a particular fan of his anyway but I I he is funny his crowd work is good yeah the crowd work is good but if you're a fan of material you're not going to be a fan of that right I like a good well crafted show yeah and and that and that's okay but if you love absolutely love crowd workor you are gonna you are gonna love Matt Rice yeah if you've got a good crowd yeah talk about that for a minute what if you don't have a good crowd we I was talking I was training a new host last night and uh I was like Katie you have to you know just telling her about a couple of the different gigs that we have and one of which is in a very busy Kid Zone and sometimes people pay attention and sometimes people don't sometimes people will zoom in for one question and then leave and then what's the answer to that like where they're not paying attention I said you have to treat it like your worst gig where nobody is listening to you and you're just background noise and you have to be okay with it what is that like as a comedian though that's that's pretty much a Tuesday night Open Mic okay like it it it tough it toughens you you the hell up and and half the time I don't blame people for not paying attention because though that half yeah is not there for comedy y they they stumbled in and they just like they just want to have they just want to have their dinner to do but but then all of a sudden there's somebody up there talk about their genitalia and and you're eating okay that's fair you're eating a very superp meal why why did it have to be a soupy meal because it's soup and it was the special that day it readed none perfect you create that own visual in your head I mean sure I did the layup but hey 100% so the best kind of audience is gonna be a ticketed crowd where where they all pay but like even then you can have so like oh I'm gonna help the show no you're not yeah like you're just making about you at this point and they like I can't believe I got kicked out I can't believe I got kicked out when I tried to make it about me you've been doing shows pretty much three to five times a week for the last three years yeah and that that's that's gonna be all this this week we got off the GD Open Mic tonight which which we really really excited about shout out to Greg great manager over that way and um really nice guy I had a chat with him oh sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet man he's got he's got some new kitties in his life he's got a new cat a they they's really happy about not bringing it to work not you will not see the kitty Off the Grid but you can see his photo bring bring the kitty to knock about though gregc because Meg will love to see the cat there you go and and then um uh tomorrow night we're at proof 22 in Plymouth okay I've not been there yeah um is a I don't remember the the previous name of it but but it's on Main Street yeah they they treat us they treat us great Steve the sound guy is awesome Joselyn one one one of my favorite uh managers ever U she's she's a great manager there too um they had to end the uh comedy open mic there which I've only been to once but uh this is why it's important to have somebody police open mics this I love I please give me a good open Mike story oh so um one that made the the good time end for everybody so Mike Jordan um fantastic comedian that that we've had on in situ a few times so um at his Open Mic someone came up to him and said hey so can I pretty much say whatever I want um pretty much well um oh no can I say the N word um no you you you can't oh is he white well I'm not interested then well obviously he's white why what is the obsession like like you have five minutes on the open mic like what were you gonna say that unravels that whole thing oh wow so that's what ended open mic night oh um no no that's a different one what ended this one is um this this guy was stealing people's notebooks so so um he he stole um stole Jimmy dh's notebook like with his material in it yeah yeah but luckily Jimmy and I have the same crappy handwriting so so like I I've also got like one of my many notebooks stolen by this one person I don't know if what he want with all your notebooks oh yeah because he doesn't want to write his own jokes like oh so he's literally stealing your jokes physically stealing your jokes physically stealing jokes and like while this dude is bombing on stage again I've only been to the proof 22 Open Mic once and I produced the comedy shows uh I did have a good experience there personally yeah but a lot of people didn't have a good experience because because of of this guy and this is just what the other comedians are telling me so so while he was on stage I saw like one of his buddies go up to Jeff he's like yeah give him a sheet of your jokes so you read the just no what like what do you thinking why are you encouraging what is he a ring announcer for other people's jokes Beat It scram yeah freaking go buy a jokebook yeah go freaking screw oh my God that's awful that's weird very weird and then um apparently he he called uh he he called one of the managers uh of the b word and possibly the CW I don't know but then like uh and then it aggressing open an aggressive open micer yeah it's like what we want in our comedy is aggression just my it's just just making people feel un comfortable and then um Jimmy cash great guy um he was he hosted before he before he made it big he was hosting an open mic in uh Worcester which was produced by um uh Eric Taylor I believe and it was called the wuen anny Great Name great name okay I I loved the name um the mic however um again not Jimmy or Eric's fault but um one person uh this a really aggressive comic um that doesn't get booked he decided to try to strangle Jimmy cash are you kidding actually physically strangled someone phys but luckily uh John Tyler who's a big guy Al also a good comic this is why I go to bed 6m like you said like nope not not gonna happen although I am missing strangulated comedy so there's that everybody's got to ruin everything for everyone uh Emily good morning to you rtb wants to know the details of AJ on the January comedy in Boston great question so uh I had a meeting with the general manager and the owner of the uh the new comedy studio so that is GNA be dates are gonna be coming out um late January early February so we're probably gonna see that within this month and I will uh I will announce it on my Facebook so so I I think we're already friends on Facebook so um uh you should see it see it when it pops up comedy Studio next month Cambridge very exciting stuff I think we're just waiting for the uh information of the other instructor so it's been established that I'll be teaching the uh Sunday night shows and uh the other instructor will be teaching the Wednesday night shows very cool yeah um so so like Sundays are absolutely great for me because uh typically I don't do anything other than that day except sit in my house watch Dragon Ball Z cry and maybe do an open mic okay that's sounds very busy AJ yeah um so so so and I catch up on all the sleep that I didn't do so I probably take like multiple naps on a Sunday anyway so so like this if I'm actually working on Sunday we'll eliminate all all the naps and then we'll start off with one class and then uh if that that becomes big we'll do two we're gonna start off with some entrylevel classes and uh we'll start with some other classes if um if if you want to learn how to host yeah there are so many people that want to know teach that as well I'd like to I'd like to watch and see what you're laying down over there just for shits and giggles yeah so so uh they said so we'll enjoy your Sunday crying yes absolutely so um if you could take the Sunday crying and put it into uh make a little material out of that make a little material about it make a little material then uh then then you're gonna be good you got a roast coming up uh we do got a roast uh thank you for bringing up we got the roast of Sam Buck what is different about a roast than a regular comedy show oh that's that's an excellent question so so a regular comedy show you you just you just go go up stand up you do your do your time get off so this um if you ever watch a a Comedy Central roast the roast of Tom Brady or if you're the old school roast of the uh the Friars Club Dean Martin roast um this is what brought Martha Stewart back from the dead everyone the roast of Justin Bieber is because of traditional roast not a roast battle a traditional roast that bring people back and and I was very selective in in this process of um of of choosing choosing Roasters for it because um that they had to if they irked me and just like H you're not the right fit you're funny but you're you're you're just absolutely not the right fit yeah uh because because like uh one person like the first two questions uh hey hey we got the Sam Buck roast coming up the first two questions like okay what are you paying me and do I need to write roast jokes um for for the roast um I would I would recommend you right right you already know who you're roasting I I recommend you write roast jok for it and it was just like okay well how many jokes should I write what is that the person that you want coming to the roast no ab ab ab ab absolutely absolutely not um so so like a lot of people weren't a right fit yeah but then like uh there were ones later on that thinking oh why didn't I think of this person sooner yeah and and we and we got we got a f we got a fantastic lineup that got solidified over the we weekend um uh Annie Powell okay we'll be we'll be we'll be a rooster we we love Annie at the show uh Gabby hajos uh Aisha May will also be on uh Josh Adams uh Thatcher wood um and Nest Nester matute will be the roast evening sweet sweet little Nester he's amazing what's up Tina hey Keith Stephanie Jackie who inspired you to go into comedy uh Bill Cosby have you ever forbidden five all right so we shutting off the show have a great day everybody Bill Cosby was a big inspiration I found out he did comedy later now oh got it when you woke up from your nap I liked I liked uh I I liked uh George Carlin a lot grow growing up um Bill Cosby himself I know that's not a popular thing just well he was funny then no he he was it was before we knew that he was a Serial Raper that was very different we no we didn't know no we don't say Raper on the show we say s on the show okay gen Z terms safe words sorry I'm old just like Cosby didn't do it no cap um I don't even understand the language that is America right now I just don't uh luckily it's luckily with j z terms is deprived from like other slang and like other Latin words and because I took Latin I can understand oh okay yeah it it just just just because what they say you're telling me this garbage is cerebral yeah cap is just covering up a bald bald spot got it yeah perfect and that's why I said No Cap like see no bald spot okay thank you for explaining that to me but Jackie uh uh who inspired me to get into comedy was um uh harlon Williams was my favorite comedian growing up and luckily Haron Williams is now getting his flowers he's uh one of his first movie roles ever was being the cop and Dumb and Dumber okay and was like oh you have a little booze there are you fun drink of the little Grandpa's cough syrup and then for some reason he was in like every movie like from 1994 to 2003 and then 2006 to 209 again um and then uh as far as like performing I would say uh I'd say my Uncle Bobby just got got me interested in that there's always a comedian in the family because he was doing plays all the time he was doing slam poetry and then that that's what made me want to do slam poetry was uh my Uncle Bobby mangahas and um he's also the one that like left a crap ton of videotapes behind yeah of comedy and uh and that's that's that's what really got me into it um yeah like I said there's always you're you're going to be around your family a lot this month it's like two whole days you survived Filipino holidays uh I we had a very quiet Thanksgiving around here but when you start thinking about the comedy in your family the people in your family I feel like that that's where you Foster your sense of survival you've got a big bizarre family you don't think that they were any inspiration to you oh abs abs abs abs a freaking L like they're your constant material but my dad will Workshop jokes from from that that my family told whether they were whether they killed or not right it's just like well well Maddie you could have said it this way like Dad she already got a pop she got an Applause break at the dinner table for that joke right if it's not broke don't fix it you don't need to fix it but but when my dad uh will will do the Improv yes and and go on top of it my dad's the funniest dude that I know yeah like when my dad goes with the flow and he doesn't go against the grain when he goes against the grain like Dad you ruined it because that's everybody when you try too hard it's not that's not fun it's not fun or natural but but when he goes with but but when he goes with with the grain it's awesome do you feel like it's harder if you're a natural comedian to craft a set um because you're forcing something if um if at first if you're doing that material then yeah you are forcing it upon the the crowd but if I honestly believe if something's funny to you it could be told in a way that's funny to everybody else okay but I like that philosophy though because this is part of that whole learning to craft a set write a set host a at being in that space of what you should and shouldn't do and that's and that's very and that's very much what I'm going to te Teach in the course at the comedy Studio yeah and now um I told I told them the regular lesson plan that they had um set up that was uh set up by the hilarious uh Kathy Ferris she she's ABS absolutely awesome um I think she started um I I think she started a little bit before me but um the level that to which she got to yeah in like uh such such like a 10 11e time uh should be studied on like on absolutely her work ethic and quality um it it it does come naturally um but uh but it also has to be honed in a way that could be forwarded to a crowd yeah and if you're performing from a Cambridge Massachusetts it's a lot different than performing from Smithfield maybe you can talk about that because you do go on tour you do go to places like rural Maine for whatever reason you keep finding yourself back out there um New Hampshire like just the different crowds the different types of people how you move your set around for where you are that's that's why I I specifically tell people like if you're gonna do politics I'm not telling you don't do politics but if you are just be dead in the middle yeah and then like my favorite comedians are conservative but they'll after punch up in a liberal standpoint yeah and and uh just like well maybe they are women just change it a little for wherever you are yeah well well like um you could change it a little for where you are but like U if it's solid enough yeah get get to a point uh where like you could be like an Alex G and Papa and just be like uh dead in the middle and you don't know where he leans but that's okay because the joke is so D yeah he's funny he's a cerebral comic that really just pokes fun at like actual things and it's like this is matter he's very matter of fact about his delivery but he's also not wrong yeah so it's it is it's fun to listen to him it's not like laugh out loud it's entertain It's fullon Entertainment my my favorite GM Papa jokes are like ones that'll go over people's heads but he'll pause and then five seconds later like he someone will get like people you'll see see light bulbs right exactly it's like oh now you get it and calls people out on it too which is great absolutely good morning Miss Mary everybody needs a Mary how are you today and what things are you working on right now it's constant Lady In Motion over there just like our friend AJ so you've got the roast coming up you've got another show that's coming up um right afterwards at knockabout yes uh we got map ER coming down uh she is a kickass comedian what's her comedy um what do you mean is it storytelling is it like oneliner lot a lot of a lot of Storytelling quick jokes in the beginning but then like a lot of uh relatable storytelling yeah when we had her at Off the Grid um in sandwich in the summertime absolutely crushed absolutely crushed so so like obviously I had to ask her to come back and um do knockabout yeah because because like that that's that's just a talent you can't deny um uh like uh even if I wasn't a fan of her comedy which I very much am you can't and this is what I tell about like any comunity you can't deny laughter yeah and if somebody is getting the most amount of laughter on the show having original jokes yeah and stories that can relate to somebody you can't ignore that like the funniest guy you had at a show one time and I was burst out laughing and he got more laughs than the headliner did although the headliner was having a bad day was that handicap guy from Providence or whatever it was and most of it was just him using his physical humor oh Tyler Tyler hitner hysterical Tyler hitner is headlining Nick's comedy stop on December 13th and uh he asked me to open for him so uh I have the honor of opening for my good friend Tyler hit he's so funny and um and then then and so um Tyler is a very underrated comedian yeah he really is and then uh I I had tell Tyler a year and a half ago buddy you can't be messaging people like 3 4 in the morning it just so happened to be that I was awake but but you can't be messaging me PE people doing that like it it worked now I feel like if you're a comedian you're off already so if you start wanting to message people at two o'clock in the morning I get the most random inboxes from people at like 2 three o'clock in the morning that are not pee pees and weees they're like I was wondering I would have rather have sended me his penis than his feelings it I'm kidding T since we have the keep sending those picks the Do Not disturbs and the whatever people feel free to contact people at any hour of the day dud thank goodness for sleep mode so that people can at least I also do a lot of financial podcasts and they're up like getting like the stocks and and China and across the world so they don't think anything of contact me at 1 o'clock in the morning and I'm like you do know what I do for a living right it's not my best ch like oh did Mama Stephanie become a finance bro right I don't know when that happened but all of a sudden I'm keep in the vest I'm now in this world but I mean you have been doing a lot of afternoon comedy which is a different vibe Al together I feel like you know it's like when you tell people you work at a strip club and you're doing the breakfast show it's not yeah we're doing legs and eggs when it's at 1 pm yeah yeah it's kind of like that same line of not not everybody's ready for Laugh Out Loud Comedy at 4M I am like sign me up for an afternoon show all day long I was laughing with my husband last night as we were leaving um Shipwrecked and coming home and it was a literal Ghost Town it was N9 o'clock at night there's like cops staged everywhere it like it looked like it was one o'clock in the morning and they were ready for business it was 900 p.m. I was like wow this is s it's a little sad but also this is where we are we're early people so sad don't I'm not ready for all that way too early for that but an afternoon comedy show and you've been getting a lot of them yeah um Sam pelleter and I did one at 1M on Friday and then I had nothing to do the rest of the day how weird is that um it was in a bord uh bitterford pool main okay I like bford uh because then I thought like wow this is very fancy for bord but then I saw the uh nip Fireball nips in the corner I was like Still bford Still main still still very much main baby but that uh if if they're awkward and and not La laughing a look at each other you got to point it out um luckily uh Sam peler did that with me and Sam is a fantastic comic he was actually um he was actually the first person that book me on my uh first real headlining show and that was in Maine Auburn Maine at this place called House of bacon and uh I was I want to go to the house of bacon it doesn't exist anymore it's and it's a dam sh it was it was owned by these uh two two gay dudes and you had no they were the straightest gay dudes that that you that you've ever ever seen and they're like oh they're actually married I'm like really I had no idea and and I've been doing shows for three years like why don't you think they they were gay AJ I was like well it's their finesse the way they dress they denied my advances just because they were with each other you're not their VI buddy they denied my advances God Gotta Love an afternoon show in Maine at the house of bacon oh um uh this yeah this this one was at a this was one was at a house and it was off the water and bit bit of for M okay and they and they were uh they they were actually pretty they they the guy called me and uh he asked yeah there's going to be kids so can you be clean I said I don't know it's going to cost you extra and then when he didn't laugh and then you're like oh this is going to be really awkward I I presented it like a home alone the character I don't know this this this feels a little light yeah oh my God and and I I sack of payment oh my God it's just like I want a sack of money I want to feel like Scrooge McDuck and I want the bag to have a dollar sign on it what's up Dorian rtb said they got to go home and start those fireplaces for the evening in Maine that's why they need their early afternoon comedy shows what's up Marty are you taunting us from Aruba where it's nice and warm and it's miserably cold here you pick the best week to go I'll tell you that right now because we have been suffering here at the Florida key that's good it's a little too good is this what you do during open mics with um yeah yeah I tried auditioning but uh they said it's a no me um I I The Beach Boys are now like there's one beach boy and he's definitely not a boy dude like I feel that's elder abuse just make him hang up there just just let him die just he that's like Frankie Valley have you seen all of those beabes Frankie Valley Frankie Valley I stopped by um I stopped by sandwich Chava uh to see Thanos and Matty Beast so I could do a Frankie Valley song it's excellent very obscure one it's the theme for Greek the very obscure one huh yeah and uh they're like oh yeah that's Frankie Valley I'm like yeah duh and and for some reason PE people don't know that Frankie Valley doesn't even know it's Frankie Valley anymore feel bad and then Rick Burgess writes a sack sack of money and bacon sounds amazing exactly I knew it AJ karaoke contest here tonight fly on down oh karaoke contest where Aruba oh uh I would but I have something very important to do tonight and that's the Off the Grid Open Mic at 700 p.m. so fun yeah it it is it is a blast uh what are you doing if nobody comes what what if I do if nobody comes well um what do you do it'd be weird because 20 people already signed up that's exciting so like if they all like collectively decide that to not show up they'd be absolutely but what do you do in the awkward moments in between do you sing do you tell some jokes do you promote other things oh uh I tell jokes whether it's awkward or not I eat up I eat up most of the time I do 10 minutes in between each comic that's doing two minutes and I waste everybody's freaking D I love it I I try to minimalize doing material like uh in between open because if 20 people are signed up is which is huge for Cape yeah it really is um especially we we got we got people coming from Rhode Island uh from Boston the NorthShore um that's fun you you you name it uh Cap Cod mics are a nice little Ellis Island of of like a a Prof professional and new comedians just meeting each other yeah they're they're just they're just meeting each other for the for the first time and then they they and uh they're like oh I've never heard you oh I'll definitely have you on stuff and and it's it's it's nice that like people these people are meeting each other for the first time like yeah wow I've never seen your style of comedy and then they book them on on that on that show yeah because like I'm not saying industry shows up there but but it's also like people that just don't happen to book shows too yeah well I mean you all got to get your reps in right I mean and also trying out new material on a different audience or seeing if a joke will fly you will see regular comedians pop up at open mics that are you know reputable because they know that they can go and practice training ground and you'll see little little uh and you'll see Jeff butrick there too and uh oh Jeff yeah sweet sweet Jeff you'll see him um don't don't worry the jokebook stealer will not be there good perfect because because he because he is banned and I told well I didn't tell him this but I insinuated to Jimmy dhy if he's not gonna see this anyway but I insinuated to him like dude you gota it's either you or Nester that has to shareff these mics and just and just just seriously though and um it's like a little kid at a a playground true then I was getting some criticism from from other other other open micers and like well listen this is why totem pole what is that uh levels of a certain certain totem pole Okay and like this is why Jimmy is a little higher up because he does more gotcha and he should have the most amount of pressure okay to not have an open m cancel so if you do more you are higher on the totem po yep okay got also also experience Al also does help but when you're performing on a mic Open Mic everybody's at the same level right exactly so you've been running paperback comedy Now for how long um it's going to be about 10 years now you have an amazing stable of comedians that come in and out or when they're in the area moving them around how do you set up a lineup um I because some people are like I want one of these people one of these people it's like I want one of these people one of those people it's almost it's almost like to look like a box of crayons right no there are there are Bookers that are like that I I try to um because you also have to keep in mind 95% of the scene is men and 5% is women I try to at least have it be a third women yeah if I can but luckily uh tomorrow's line up at proof 22 it's half women so thank thank goodness you've had a lot of women and I find that in comedy there aren't that many I feel like you've been able to to Foster well I'm I'm I uh I'm on a lot of comedy scenes I I do a lot of shows so so like it's it's never the same so I I think like hey this person could fit well with this lineup because uh we don't have somebody that does that has a dry tone we don't have somebody that's uh uh high energy on the on so you go stylistic exactly okay and when you go stylistic you are going to get a diverse lineup anyway yeah you can't you can't necessarily go by skin color you have to go by more voice than anything I I was always just curious how people set up a lineup you know to to check some boxes is this one just a oneliner is this one like a one full story with a couple of laughs in there it's like how do you craft that set to make sure everybody's sort of happy I mean this is what you're coming for right to make an audience overall have a good time and that's really hard to do especially now where we are in the world uh Dorian says you joke but I've seen and been to open mic where a host will absolutely just take over the entire time Lauren says then we have those fantastic comedians that drive an hour and a half for a five minute set just because we don't like trolls on the internet yeah love you Lauren yeah well Lauren does a great job at a places uh we're we're T we're taking a break for December yeah um it didn't have to be said between us but we're not setting up a because it's usually the last December is crazy there's so many things cookie parties people parties end of year parties this thing that thing that thing we're over scheduled to the max we are not having one open mic on Christmas Eve or or New Year's Eve yeah exactly they just fall on good days this year uh Lauren says sign me up for the last Thursday in January fine fine Oh I thought it was on a Tuesday I'll make this commitment yeah but I will make this commitment I will do two minutes if I can oh yeah so so like I I finally crafted two minutes everybody I was telling the comedians to rush their times at Old places cuz hon was coming War H and we said guys if we all if we all go a minute under our scheduled times like we're gonna turn the lights out on Hon hoton made me laugh out loud not even on purpose oh W it's something new go on shout out to our good friend H he was working at his other job one of his other 27 jobs because as a comedian you probably have of them um he was working at his other job and somebody happened to trip and he was like oh I'm sorry so sorry that you did that for you but I was like and this poor woman was like crying and on the ground and I was like he's a paramedic because he's also a paramedic he's like oh I hate that for you he's like the mean mean twinky gaze from pwn he didn't even oh I hate that for you even mean it to come out that way but I I like this poor woman's crying and I just laughed because of his very flat delivery of you did this to yourself hoden is great Under Pressure well on stage he's great under pressure and I was just like and my husband looks away that's somebody who's been trained I just had to laugh out loud good morning Miss Nicole they is she says it is a Tuesday a Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday big silent no for December we got it done oh and uh we got a couple comedians watching well not only Dorian but uh headliner Paul nardizzi who I hi Paul yeah who I will be working with uh later on this month I feel like I've seen you somewhere Paul um but Paul at the he's he's everywhere yeah like uh a c Playhouse uh he's headline knockabout before Irish Irish village pretty much I don't think there's a PL um and also um and also um uh the seest as well I see you pop up on other circuit lineups also all the time I was like wait a minute what now he's doing a New Year's Eve show with other comedians I don't know I love that you just will you're you're a [ __ ] you're out there I'll book it I'll do it I'll take it all all I'm missing is the Charlie Chaplain mustache but that's really the only way that you get better yeah um I really wanted to um I really wanted to do uh Margaritaville or um the cape Cotter again this year but I did it last year and then like um because because one the crowd is great the pay is great but I had some of my finance ladies go and watch that show and they loved it yeah yeah I felt I needed to change it up just slightly still be Cape but have it be fouth this year and then next year we are a different area yeah and next year I'll probably do Margaritaville um again that year as long as a Tavern on the warf doesn't ask me to do a a New Year's Eve show that's fun dude they haven't a they haven't asked me I'll do it because Tavern on the warf when whenever they want like a New Year's Eve show like they will they take care of me to the nines and I will tell you but uh Isn't it nice to go where you're appreciated that's weird but they will tell you that that like uh setting up and and the whole night of New Year's Eve is a nightmare for for staff and and everybody everybody in service knows that those are like you better be on your best behavior and you better get paid a really handsome dollar because it is a lot of work wrangling cats is basically what you're doing with these people and as much as I love cats like you can't make them do what they don't want to do just g a mine has been a particular jerk lately because his mama's not home and she came home and then he was mean to her for a couple of days and then he acclimated back to her and then she just left again so now he's a brat yeah in the middle of the night finding any sort of plastic thing to Crunch now he's Charlie XCX right exactly walking around stomping on my head in the middle of the night trying to drink from my water bottle I'm like all this bad behavior a every single time my daughter goes back to college it's very irritating 7's new job a comedian when did this happen it hasn't happened yet I said I've been wanting to do this it's starting at the comedy Studio baby for like five years I've wanted to do just a little just to see if I could do it just to see if I could get a couple of laughs and uh the beautiful thing about the class is at the end of the class at the near end of the class you will be on a showcase show at at the world famous comedy Studio I'm gonna just start with an open mic at laurens's and see if uh I'm available for that because that's a lot of commitment it is uh no no you will uh you know I'm an executive director now I have to be serious o ooh ex ex executive like I am big I am the executive I never lost oh my gosh listen it's a lot of work we've got our 12 Days of Christmas auction that is going on right now so if you're looking for um a fun little gift that you can support your local chamber and also get for maybe a little bit cheaper please visit it we've got a dumpster rental we've got various um dinner outs gift cards to random things a dumpster rental so you can drain the swamp right you know who's gonna be mad about draining the swamp Shrek he's course Shrek he's gonna be really mad when you drain that swamp I'm not saying the swamp shouldn't be drained but you gotta think about who it's gonna affect and we'll never hear that Smashmouth song ever again ever again even he died he couldn't hear it anymore couldn't take it what's up Victoria thanks for joining us this morning Bryce Queen status Stephanie dude I love seeing Smashmouth when they were smashed CU like I've seen them play hammered at the fair and somebody want told me somebody want told is that the lowest portion of your career where you're wasted playing an estate fair I feel like when I saw Johnny Resnik doing that and and um The Big E oh and I looked up and I was like oh poor Johnny Resnik like this is this is where you're at by the way he's hospitalized with pneumonia apparently there's pneumonia going around everywhere they're scaring us with the bird flu cuz now people have the bird flu and they're freaking out about it how can we have bird flu when we know that birds aren't real guys 2025 is gonna get real weird so buckle up yeah and thank God because we are getting rid of some certain people certainly alternative skinned people I mean I'm on that shopping block too that's it you're out but I'm just happy that's it's happening that's it that's it you're taking a comedy this is where you're getting your laps in got another show coming up at aquatic yep uh we got the wonderful Stacy kendro a New York City uh style comedian will be coming down and I love their beer but I never have time to get there their times are always weird for my schedule so I've got to figure it out the this time it is going to be on a Saturday this is this is the first time we've done a Saturday show for them I could actually make that um if you if you want to go like uh because because uh you you promote me I I will obviously send you tickets uh to to to Aquatic and you'll love it send you how how many that that you want up to four so um yeah we have Aquatic and also uh also on on that same aquatic show we have the prince of mystery skip Daniels I love him like when I say I love this man he is so weird but so fun and funny it is like you don't know what to do you know what I mean it's like when you see something that you've never seen before and don't really know what to do do I like that is it it's fun it's funny he's funny yes skip skip is great the prince of mystery yeah he's a weirdo and I love it he did a he did a promo for me once and um he was and uh and um uh because for Headliners I asked them to send me um a video so I can um uh saying that they're going to be at a place yeah so that I can properly promote all I can think it's a little bit country it's a little bit rock and roll that's him it's a little bit magic it's a little bit comedy yeah but he's way gayer than Donnie Osman I didn't say you did I very much enjoyed it but it wasn't the edible you didn't have to say it physically but you did say it I I don't think that I did let's get down to business speaking of get down to business we have got a big game tonight Mash p Gillette Stadium game time 5:30 you have to grab your ticket on the app you cannot just walk up and get your ticket there not that many people are going to be fighting if you don't already have your ticket because it's going to be cold yeah so Rick so is Rick Burgess is he going or is he playing no he's not playing okay the children are you going to the game Ricky oh you oh we get to we get to beat some children no oh that is great because since the Liberals took away our beating rod s we have to now beat the kids in sports it is crazy I love that their t-shirts for Mash B this year say not like us Kendrick Lamar would be so proud so the other team is Drake not like us number one song on Apple for 2024 by the way not like us I I can't wait till he plays the Super Bowl I I cannot wait and uh I I'm predicting this now uh it's Little Wayne's Hometown Little Wayne is gonna make an appearance he was miffed that he was not picked as to be the headliner understandable but but little Wayne does understand that Kendrick Lamar nobody's hotter than Kendrick Lamar I know I know like uh like he he's he's as hot as Eminem was uh he he's as hot as uh Vanilla Ice and Jay-Z were at during their times I've seen Kendrick twice and it's just it's he's just a lyrical genius amazing man dude like uh nobody's gonna survive and Drake's career is gonna be done sorry Drake to Canada for you then just like just hold on you're going home Canada that could be seen as racist rhetoric and just like deporting but you said it I didn't yeah but getting into Canada that's fine I will I will be your racism uh because getting into getting into Canada a lot harder than than Mex than Mexico into to the US which a lot of people don't don't mention then because it's like well if Trump wins I'm I'm I'm moving to Canada they're not going to let you in well Ellen said that uh she was moving to London and then she was flooded she says it wasn't flooded though that was not real fake news yeah I mean maybe flooded with rain in their tea but that's yeah right that because it rains there what's up Thanos we have got a trivia for you over at the sandwich TNA every single Thursday night uh oh no it's Wednesday hello hey everybody uh so six o'clock 6 to8 we've got some trivia so go and play we've got great prizes too gift cards to sandwich to Verna best prime rib anywhere it's delicious chef's kiss it is prime Thanos makes it himself does he yeah that's what I'm telling people oh okay he's back there toiling away with Fe so you hear that Thanos you have to make the truth real now no get to work prime rib for all it's perfect whenever I'm I'm whenever I'm there I always want cake but I forget that they have cake and then when I leave I'm just like oh they had all of their food is good yeah they they they have cake right there that I could have got excellent what else is on the map for you you've got all of these great shows that are coming up for December you're out New Year's Eve and you are can be booked for a private yes I I can be booked for private events we have four no no uh uh actually six uh private events uh this this month alone we did three last month as their holiday party um it's a lot of companies that for some reason remember seeing me just like you made fun of my friend he like uh you you said you said his shirt was gay I'm just like that could have been anyone it was any comedy but that's fine I will take being the one that said yes to that um I said no you told my friend he looked like Brock Turner I'm like oh yeah now I remember that one um uh so like luckily it's like a lot of referrals um you do a really good job in those spaces where it's like a little bit awkward and you're like whatever I'm going to walk in here and do my thing and everybody's gonna laugh you're gonna like me I'm AJ and if you don't like me it's your fault that is not my problem I did my job yeah yes so so I I I bring Josh uh with with me generally to uh just bring down the mood and then when it comes back he does a good job of doing some crowd investigation Josh is the best literally the best at crowd investigation because Josh will rip butts with like uh with like anybody else at the company that rips butts and he'll get he walk in and infiltrate the the the group and find out what's going on who the players are he's like uh what should I know when I go up there right nobody is better at this than Josh Adams you have to investigate it I feel like it's awkward if you know nothing about this group this comedy this this these people what they think is funny their office culture and then you're up there cracking jokes that you don't know if it's going to fly or not and you have to sometimes be clean about it and I'm telling Bookers um book Josh Adams for your corporate if you can't get me uh if then that's very and that's very freaking important hit me up first if I'm not available he'll be fine yeah that's horrible how do people find you if they want to book you for private you to choose if if you pick one comedian this year obviously be me but if I'm not available Josh Adams oh my gosh how do people book you uh they they can book they can book me through Instagram they can book me through facebook.com paperback comedy uh they they can uh they can contact me at paperback comedy atgmailcom that's usually the best way I answer all my emails the same day like uh whether I'm having a important surgery I am on my phone so paperback comedy gmail.com for for free quote um if it's local some if it's a local business sometimes I'll visit it first make sure you're sharing your events rotten dude like let's dox the face p no Lauren's going down the right Road and not dock right but she did call her out I did appreciate that you just scribbled off the name of whoever it was because to any event that she is at love and light people love it and light love love and light trolling trolls is fun troll trolling is not fun for me but trolling trolls is fun well you got to deal with the fair amount of that being a comedian yeah because then like if somebody's trolling and they have no profile picture and just like this is not about me yep you deal with your trolls head on like like this this this this is about something going on at home well that's it I had to deal with a bad mood too this week and I was just like you know what I'll give her one she's allowed to have a bad day
