David Copplestone on his art and inventions

saraphina and I were in a entrepreneurial book club where Stephanie never read the right book and Stephanie was terrible at this book club I really stopped at CL I did not fabulous I'm what I just had a visual just had a visual he proud of it long hello happy Wednesday to you hi David how do you do good morning I'm so pumped for you to be in the studio how's everybody hanging this morning at least we're not Floridians that's right this is the first time that they said Tampa has had a direct hit since 1921 oh it's gonna be horrendous I know the governor was imploring people that think that they're just going to hunker down and stay he's like get gone everybody was leaving yeah the highways were packed I know A girlfriend of mine was supposed to fly up and we were supposed to um spend the night together and she's like I can't get a flight they cancel my flight oh my gosh right oh of course yeah so I mean I mean it's not like she could have anybody watch her dog so her and her two dogs ran away to Georgia I think is what most of them are doing that's the thing to do right yeah not very many people are running away to Georgia but apparently that's where you go now that's it um so uh we we are thinking about all of our friends I know know Kristen was out hosting one of our music bingos last night over at Bailey's and uh she is actively watching to see if her home blows away she's a traveling nurse y so she stays with us half the year in sandwich and works with us here at lemon Ado just for for fun well I really have I do have a part of this we have a house we have a condo in Hudson Island in Florida that's scary so that's kind of on the bottom edge of the where it's going we're in the east Coast okay on the bottom edge of this so if it shifts South South at all well we're scared anyway but yeah yeah so we're watching carefully yeah I think everybody absolutely is at this point so why do we have David on the show today David and I met at the masp farmers market yes and you came over and you were showing off your inventions yeah right yeah you were so good I was I was looking around I I had been down into the mash B Commons before like earlier that day well just before I came over to see you um and I talked to some of the stores because I walked through the mashby commons and I saw that they had some cornhole games Y in front of a couple of stores so I went into those two stores and talked to them about you know I have a good game explain the situation and um talking to one of them they said well you know you really should go up to the the mashby farmers market I love that they said that yay so that's how I got up there so I walked up and and I was looking around looking around you looked like someone to talk to you looked official and you look you knew what was going on too fun I was so lucky that I talked to you well and asked you and you were so welcoming yeah what you got what is it right well I explained it I love creators I love people that are making cool things um we are so lucky to have this space that has been gifted to us from knockabout uh and also the mash B Commons to work there and promote small businesses people taking a chance on themselves exactly uh yeah right creators Growers Artisans we've even got um the boys and girls club uh that are going to be joining us for our Christmas markets to um work on some of their entrepreneurial skills oh boy because it is a skill you're putting yourself out there so you mainly stay in your studio yes I've been I'm a pretty private person and I stay there and I work on and I do my artwork yeah and while I was doing my artwork I thought well I should make some products and I could sell those yeah because I had decided early on my my family was a lot of artists in my family so I was very familiar with the art world and yeah it's difficult yeah to make a living oh for sure Financial part of it for most most of us you know so I kind of thought all right my aunt and uncle lived in the next town they were both artists and they they taught at Mass art and uh in Boston so I I'd watch that it's difficult they they had to do a lot of other thing they to design Hallmark cards and different things that they would do with their artwork right to make a living and they did it and they taught at M Mass art but I didn't want to do those things I just wanted to paint you know and so I figured out ways I'm not going to do the business side of this um I'm going to do other things to make money and uh support things and so that's what I did I focused I did my artwork when I could I did other things I I was a house painter and contractor well well that's it that's a great discussion to have good morning Mary Tina Chandra Chandra how are things for you right now I know you're kind of in the thick of it in Florida with all of the storm uh I hope you guys are safe tell Chris I said hi give everybody hugs and love uh we've got DAV David cobblestone in the in this on the show today with us and uh we're just talking about the beginnings of being an artist and how you're going to make money it's a great conversation to have we have this conversation all the time with some of my fellow eall grads which I really feel like you are a prime candidate for this program um just because they're awesome they uh really teach you how to value your art value your creations and then how to to monetize that because right it's an uncomfortable conversation when you're talking as an artist how do I make money from that well how do I live so I can make this that term that use monetized you know I've been taking this you know the the ring toss games folks don't know but make these ring toss games he makes all of these by the way if you're wondering what all this fabulousness is and they kind of changed over the years I would develop different ideas and they got larger and larger I was I was taking them into fenel Hall in Boston um and displaying them there as a as a interactive art display yeah you know and their sculpture these are the ring toss is my really sculpture yeah and it's a it's a work of art but you can it's functional art you can do something with it you ever been to our mashby Farmers Market David has a giant one and it just draws people people are like what is that I got to get over there because it's cool it's like tether ball but it's not it's got this just it's fun different things that people recognize parts of it and and they they're say and they want to try it right they see other people trying it in fenel Hall I would take three pieces yep you know the six foot ones and the 15 which are not small to travel by the way I have a 16 foot but I I take the 10 foot in there with the two six-footers but it's funny the people that work there beside me they did different things the entertainers there and that's what that word monetized yes they would come over to and one of the fellas said how are we going to monetize you I love that that's the first time I heard the word I think well there they're here were street performers are trying to help you freaking make they were all over me all the time they so why aren't you do you know do this do that yeah I I would just set them up and W I sit back and just love watching people play my game and watch them smiling talking to each other taking pictures and you know imagining what they were doing but that's what I well that's because you kind of live in your brain we were talking earlier a little bit about when you when you were a kid and all of your questions yeah right I used to when I was a kid the the the four questions who are we where do we come from what are we doing here and where are we going I wonder if my kids still think like that you know what I mean it's it's very deep for a child to think like that yeah this is like six years old as as I remember it I don't know when it was but it was early and I would think about things and i' look up at the stars whatever that's why I became an artist I think I was I was a little on my own path always and uh well you've created your own little world in there so it's it's nice and I thank you very much for taking a leap of faith and and spending some time with us today because I know that this is not your comfort zone well a lot of people I I would feel that a lot of people weren't comfortable with that philosophical idea that I was living in the world as I say maybe later we'll talk about I did answer those questions yeah a couple years ago I thought about it a lot I've been thinking about all all my life his whole life yeah and I thought what this is kind of the answer so anyway maybe we'll get into that later but so the monetizing yeah that that when that fell said but he thought long and hard and and I made up some plaques and some different things to explain what the game was but I never the monetizing is happening now well I I just love that you have made iterations of this Orbiter ball whether it's for a tabletop or whether it's for uh I really definitely see this as family game at a bar at a at a beer hall at a outside but for the kids I love the playground idea and you went massive oh yeah so you know there's a lot of history that went on with this game but uh you mentioned the playground yeah I have two daughters and and uh I was primarily the caregiver because as the artist and my wife was business person right somebody's got to pay these bills worked great for me for for us I I hope what's up Susan hi Laura thanks for joining us on the show David Cobblestone is here talking about his Orbiter ball so you you were the primary caregiver for your girls you know you're the play guy so you talk about the playground so we're at the playground and I I had made this six- foot Orbiter in my backyard and I had steel poles you imagine this thing and it's anchored in cement I took it down to the playground yeah put it out there in the in the yard just put it there and the same thing H you know I just left it there yeah people are over there playing they don't know they don't know what it is but they're over there and I was thrilled you know well I love that you left it open to the imagination like there are no rules there is no I mean I'm sure that you could make a game out of it if you wanted to but you just left it to interpretation well no that's I spent years trying to make rules making dozens of games that you can play like baseball basketball any sport you can so you're an inventor yes yes I'm an inventor right a Creator an artist you're just a Creator yeah if you go on my website I put some of the games there but there I dropped your website in the chat Cobblestone games.com I really would love for people to go and support David and and uh see what he's been working on because it's it's creative you're you're creative and uh did your girls think oh my God my dad is so weird or did they like show you off was it like wow are they like you inventive like that uh they're yes but they're no they're very everyone's different right for sure but anyway but they didn't have that reaction they they were just that's great whatever um and they like to see people playing it was great but yeah so anyway it had a big ring on it at that time okay and then I came around to the idea of the ball I mean there was another thing I I had uh so some of the parents there were they telling me you should go on Shark Tank and one of them said you know you should send this to hammer Hamer Slimmer don't you love that you should what you should be doing is yeah well they loved it and they thought this is this should be going wild yeah and I'm just sitting in my home hoping that it would do that but but so I did I sent uh I sent one of these down to Hemer slemmer with an email with lots of there was music in it and I was playing it to the music and it it was kind of a fun video a creative presentation I love fun email yeah yeah but anyway they emailed back one of the head buyers yes we want to do this we're definitely going to do this put it in Hemer Slimmer it's going to be great but we want the big one ah I had something a little cuz I was ready to make that yeah and I had the B big one was six feet tall steel weighed 100 PB where am I going to manufacture to ship that right so okay so I had to go well because you're in like Centerville right it's not like we've got well I was living in wle oh okay I was like it's not like we got big factories around here just like Hey we're going to manufacture of these let's get it done it wasn't shippable okay yeah so I had to go and it took me six months to figure out how to get it in a box and I had to change it into plastic I hope all of our entrepreneurial friends are listening to this because the amount of engineering mentally to try and figure this stuff out just to box it I love that right yeah oh yeah the stuff we don't think about plus it was changing it suppose I should I should see show how this works just to see you should have seen his Mary Poppins bag when he walked into the studio today he's like got one of everything yeah so there's all kinds of different swings you can do oh there are swings oh yeah there's an art so you say that I didn't microphones in my way right he's got tricks with the Orbiter ball everybody tricks any let's see how many hours have you spent orbiting this ball thousands somebody asked me the other day said I said thousands yeah really well you have to over the time absolutely um yeah so but that's how the six foot one came to be it was kind of on the inspiration of Hemer slemmer yeah by the time I got it done they were kind of tired they're like all right I'm sick you by Dav you didn't give it to us when we wanted it I'm so excited that they did that because it made me go ahead and get that six foot one yeah is shippable now in the Box awesome down at Amazon just in oh so you got it listed on Amazon I just put it over on Amazon that's exciting yeah the this one these ones were there but you should have led with that I would have shared that little link I will afterwards I'll find it for you and share it because I think that it is I am telling you from what I've witnessed with my own eyes the people that gravitate towards it it's all peoples old people young people kids everybody's like what is it let's play with that well that's what keeps me going with it because you know I've kind of created this I've I've done my artwork I've I have tons it I love your little book here not time for that yeah yes so I made my book I put I have when I was making this book just to give you an idea of what it is I have all my ideas through the years I would I would put my artwork in here in on my website and he's a fabulous painter by the way oh thank you yeah and I would put all my ideas about the games in there and and my philosophical thoughts put on my computer and when to give you an idea of what the size when I I downloaded all this into an external hard drive it was eight gigabytes okay so it's a lot that's a lot anyway so that's what's some of it's in here but anyway that's so that was your book of artwork and Innovation which I love right because that's it that's you are an innovator you are making things constantly so that was the title I've been thinking artwork and Innovation a body of work when I was in art school I went to art school art art institute of Boston okay they recently put up a video of of me playing my game in there one of really alumni that's exciting get together yeah so that was cool yeah and and when I talked to the the U the president of the college when I finished up I said what do I do now yeah you know some a question that I should have asked when I started but I don't think anybody we're not on that linear line anymore if Co taught anybody anything it was that we don't have to follow that line of of life anymore know right you're just coming into your own right now as far as getting this thing out there you've been working on this for how long a Lifetime right yeah and that was his what was his com was you build a body of work that you're proud of so that's what been doing exactly now that's different for most people because most people say what are you doing which means what are you what are you selling yeah or whatever yeah yeah but anyway well it's a different I said I separate I said my artwork was just to be purely what I want to do I don't want it to be something well I need a color to match my you know not to get into any of that just to paint what I wanted to paint and and that was totally my choice well I love that I have you here and un leave Ericson day which what explorer the one who pioneered his own way you've definitely done it your own way yeah right you really have and it's it's wonderful that you found a partner that can be able to let you be you that was for there right she appreciated the art artist in me the creative part she was business I don't have a creative she said I don't have a creative bone in my body but so I love what you're doing so you do it isn't that amazing though when you find that person that that you work with and uh and it was you know you got a a great deal being able to spend that time with your daughters I know right I cherished that I knew I was very fortunate and there again I'm doing a different thing though I'm walking down with my daughters and I'm thinking people are think why is he with instead of his wife you know so they go through that but we're breaking social norms over here that's exactly what I'm saying I had this great conversation with my husband last night about the stuff that he does really well and it's just not your typical dad stuff and it's fine we we swap our roles all the time in everything that we do because we like doing this so that's what we do when are yeah exactly Kindred Spirits for sure very excited to have you here talking about this today because I I know this is not your Belle weather but he's just like I brought this and I brought this and I brought this yeah well you're here you're relaxing into it I do want to jump over and talk to Carol from the cape Wellness collaborative she popped into the studio yesterday and they have a masquerade ball going on it's one of their really big fundraisers it's a masquerade Gayla as she likes to say but I always say Gala Kayla I'm I'm the aunts or aunts that kind of conversation so let's talk to Carol over here um so Carol you just took over this position at Cape Wellness collaborative we've got Carol Bosco Bowman who is on the show with us this morning dropping in to give us an update I definitely want to have you on for like a full show to talk about so many things that you do but I know that you've got this like masquerade Gala coming up that you want body didn't know about we do we're really excited about it Cape Wellness collaborative is hosting its biggest fundraiser of the year on Friday October 25th at the pelum house in dennisport and it's going to be terrific um as I said it's our biggest fundraiser of the year so it's really important uh to us to get the word out so thanks to you Stephanie for doing it on the fly like so happy to because as soon as I heard about it I have this very overactive imagination and I start like it's like the Labyrinth it's like the masquerade ball I've always wanted I tell you it it's been a lot of fun researching like what did the venetians do for masquerade and there's there's a really interesting history with it and one of the things I love so much about it is that it it was the type of event where everyone was able to go and they could be whoever they wanted to be so if they were someone who worked in a kitchen or you know someone who owned a Palazo they could dress however they wanted to and there everyone was the same it was an equal playing field uh for the most part so that I kind of like that that notion but uh but with our our masquerade Gaya we're looking to raise funds for the organization in particular for the wellness card program which provides cap and Islands residents who are facing cancer with some funds toward the integrative therapies that our organization pays for um so we have a network of providers of folks who provide things like acupuncture massage therapy lymphatic drainage um all kinds of uh modalities that are known as integrative therapies that actually do help with some of the symptoms that people are feeling so it can range from things like um you know if you're in treatment for cancer and um you're getting chemotherapy there are certain side effects that can help mitigate anxiety is one of the obvious ones that things like yoga and meditation and um massage therapy can help with but uh we hear a lot of people have neuropathy um they might have issues with food and uh so it's nice to be able to to get a different kind of support that most insurance companies won't actually pay for so we we help people feel better and and we not only help those who are going through cancer treatment but we also help the caregiver because the caregiver is an important part of Wellness for for those who are facing cancer oh 100% they're pretty much the rock the person that gets you through your day and it's so important that you take care of them and I love that aspect of uh the collaborative because you do such an amazing job and you're new to this position I am new I'm very new um what brought to the cape and we we've lived here in the past and spent a lot of time here caregiving for my in-laws and what brought me here actually is that my father-in-law was diagnosed with stage four cancer in three places so it was an all Hands-On deck situation and my husband and I decided that we wanted him to live out his life in his home and the um the VNA the nurses and the folks at hospice agreed that this was the best thing that we could do for him and so we jumped right in last November and uh my husband moved in with his folks in November and I followed in January of this this year so it uh it was a for a sad reason that we were moving here but it was also a beautiful reason for us too because helping his parents age out in their home was a gift that we really wanted to give them and have committed to giving them so we were really pleased that we were able to actually do that because not everyone is able to do that right and we're so fortunate that we could do that yeah and then now you're here you're like well I might as well continue on this work I'm in this journey you know it yeah previously I was in Community Development uh so I was in uh building affordable housing and preserving existing housing that is attainable uh which that's a a phrase that I learned right here on the cape actually right the folks at CDP it's a uh actually from the Cape Cod Commission as well um so tainable housing is a is a good term but um anyway we're here to talk about Cape Wellness collaboratives masquerade Gayla so let me sprinkle a little bit of of a teaser for that um so we do have a roaming magician for the beginning of the event who will also provide some levity he does bring comedy into his work so while folks are having cocktails um we have a magician and then we also um have a a jazz Trio we have the BART Weissman smooth jazz Trio who will be providing a lovely and festive background yeah I'm really excited to hear them and let's be honest the pelum house doesn't throw a bad party so you're gonna have a good time regardless no I I went there and took a look at the room and I was like this is this is just astonishing it's such a beautiful property and we're really lucky to be able to do it there and that is going to be on the 25th it's a nice early party time which I like a 6m party myself yeah me too get a little bit of dinner uh we have some really great silent auction uh items and then we also have some incredible live auction items like a a trip uh to the Turks and abacos Islands um and just some really amazing things we we were very fortunate in uh with the with the live auction items that we were able to get and we're we're going to start trickling those out online so if you follow us on Facebook or Instagram at Cape Wellness collaborative um you'll be able to see those items um and uh you know even if folks just cannot make the event we would be delighted if people decided that they wanted to donate and then we're also making the silent auction items available to people even if you can't join so uh so you can look for those and if anything stripes or fancy you can bit on them and maybe it'll be yours Kate Wellness collaborative always has a fun interactive way of fundraising I think you guys always go above and beyond for your activities you raise funds well and it's really difficult but we are nearing towards the end of the year and it's nice to be reminded of the places that do a really an impactful donation and I feel like you get a lot of bang for your buck with your organization and there are so many people and so many pieces to it but at the end of the day it's the human involved in it that human experience that you really preserve and make sure that you get to live your life with the dignity that you've got so I I appreciate you guys I applaud the work that you do and thank you please Carol come back on with me and talk about all of the wonderful things and activities that you do have I was I was Disturbed to find out that it's actually the highest some of the highest numbers in the state um it's important that we continue this work so thank you to anyone who can who can join or the inventor of the Orbiter ball an innovator a creative uh you had you're you said that your parents were always so supportive and free to let you do what you wanted to do yes I was forun there well my father was a singer and so you know my my f my f my house was a creative house yeah in the Arts and so and my my mother was an actress in the in the town plays that's I love that I think she wanted to be an actress and but she had the four of us so that was the puts a damper on things just a little bit but she did her plays all the children's plays so my mother was like celebrity a local celebrity all the kids you know they loved my mother great to me so as a little kid I was like oh my God your mother is Cinderella you know that's so cool but so they were very supportive of the Arts but my father told me all right no that's great you want to do the Arts fine but always have a have a trade yeah have a skill right yeah so that's what so I did the I did I'm a painter so I did I was painting houses while I was in art school and I yeah kept doing it right well I mean that's just a different kind of painting but it's still yeah well it's one that I could do I could do the painting and I could be thinking of my right your creative painting the creative stuff so yeah yeah it was perfect for me I loved it and I loved the the product that I would get a beautiful home oh yeah inside or out you know it's great yeah I did it in wsy so there was rewarding yeah right it was very rewarding financially um you came in with a big list of quotes why are those quotes So meaningful to you yeah well I I had a few you know as I was doing this artwork I always needed to figure out find support for what I was doing for myself yeah keep going and I I heard a few of them I just have a couple here from presidents uh JFK started out and he had he had a speech in Rice Rice University and he had one before that was if art a piece of it was if art is to nourish the roots of our culture Society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him we must never forget that art is not a form of propaganda it is a form of truth but I would I would hear that and I'm doing the right thing right so and his uh and I was thinking of you know at that time I'd made my game so I wanted support for that and he said in the Rice University speech I was thinking how difficult this product is this this ring toss and he said uh we choose to go to the mo Moon we choose to go to the moon in this decade and and do the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard so I love that you're not a ghost Mark I see you right there okay um because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills which I think this product does as well uh because the challenges is one that we are willing to accept one we are unwilling to postpone and one which we intend to win and the others too that was a speech but I I related it to my product I love the fact that you went and like found a presidential speech that you're like um this is channeling my creativity this is my backbone that's what I did and I also had one from Ronald Reagan I I love it you know we are often feeling like we need to have the validation to do what we want to do as creative people right um and it you know not everybody is blessed with a spouse like mine where I was like I'm gonna make a farmers market and he's like okay well how are we gonna do that oh wow and we did daunting right he goes before you make any other Big Ideas can we like wrap this one up I'm like oh okay by the way I did get my Farmers Market Grant in yesterday it I wanted to cry it was like I gave birth to something and then now I don't know anything about it for until December so it was one of those moments where I created something I put it out into the world I really hope for the best maybe I'll know in a few months in a month yeah takes a long time for to go through their process but it's also to develop this amazing volunteer program and work with the high school and work with some of our local um organizations around here to really make this community uh group impactful but I've already seen it in our first season and I'm already G I'm G to absolutely cry on Sunday so if you're going to come out to the farmers market it is our final regular season farmers market we've got our pink Point 5K it's a0 5K half a k oh boy that's good it's not a real race at all but we are raising money for the women's early detection fund which covers um any sort of treatment that you need that is not covered by your insurance and we're just going to make a big party out of it I just booked a bag Piper uhuh so we're gonna have a bag Piper kick off this weird race awesome it's gonna be two laps around our Fields that's the big race and then afterwards we're gonna be celebrating with a dog's first birthday party K9 Cara who is the mash B Comfort dog is going to be there celebrating with her little pink Tut on oh boy so we're going to have you know lights and sirens and all of our yeah please do oh we had the blessings of the dogs last week so we had somebody brought their chicken to be blessed apparently Hank said excellent I was like okay um they need that too but this is the space like this has been my space for people to come get weird do do cool things make art show up sell your stuff um and just be whatever you want to be that day so thank you very much for finding us oh it was fantastic for me so I was displaying my as you saw I put them up okay people started playing them which which I love you know played them all day and um and look what it led to I I I ended up there now the big one is over at the knockabout brewery and now at uh bad Martha oh awesome did you see this picture no look at that picture I thought that I love it got one over at bad Martha now too yes for celebrating October you know I was playing golf with some folks and they said you should you should put the I talking about my gam yeah you should put them in the breweries you know and I was already doing that with yeah you're like already I'm on top of that confirmation of that idea so that's well yeah that's why I suggested bad Martha because they I know they've got that cool space and they've got some cool art yeah uh Falmouth is just such a warm welcoming Community when it comes to art anything right and Ralph BM yeah and they have the space for it yeah so that's great and it's uh slowing down now but um hoping when the spring comes it's for sure it's to be great it's really finding where you fit in right it's it's finding the the right so that may be a vehicle to go you know there's a history with this you know when I started with this when I found I came up with the idea the Orbiter Ball by the way which he just put on Amazon talk about working so hard in a space that you're not comfortable in yeah making the Amazon page is was difficult for me I know takes a while to learn these different yeah and I know we love to shop local and if David was able to find a store or a place for this and it's just one of those Creations that's kind of like where do you fit yeah it should be Cape Cod Cape Cod games right that's it exactly it should be definitely like right a centerpiece in the mash B Commons or maybe outside of the Cape Cod Mall maybe a massive one in the parking lot you know right you speaking about the high school I was thinking you know I have one at my I gave one to my was the high school went to high school and if anybody's got ideas for David please drop them in the chats because this is an interactive show we want you to be part of this Cindy oh my God that's Jared yes exactly it was it's been there for for a few years and people are have to make explain how you make it to get protection for mine is as an artwork it's but Mas got their robots Club why wouldn't it be cool to put in the specifications and have one of their robots build it right great yeah you know start thinking of ways to interact with other places interacting with the high school I thought the industrial arts teacher if get one of his students to make one and then the school could put it out in there exactly or whatever and play it like they do at the high school well idea I don't know how to proceed with that but that's well we're talking about it right now so if anybody out there has got an into this or think it's a good idea then definitely do so and I'm sure I'm sure you got more ideas than just the Orbiter ball I mean this this stack of innovation over here this one captured me all all the different games some of them are maybe better games but this one really got me the create the engineering part of it yeah the physics good morning Bev it's got my imagination how old were you when you made your first game um oh well story is I went on a trip down into the islands I took a a sailboat and delivered it with some people okay down into the you've lived quite the storied life well this story was great anyway I got out and I did that and it was a three-month trip while I was in Antiga what I saw this ring toss game that the Admiral's in at the bar and I loved it and and these people were lined up playing it and it was they were all smiling just as they do now when they take my Arbiter into for that was the rum David that was the rum anyway they I thought if I can get this into a desktop version yeah everybody in the world could enjoy this I didn't realize that it would be anyway now there's the tiki the tiki it is everywhere right but at the time it wasn't it was in those islands and down in Florida that was about it I think anyway I made I thought about it and I made a little one with a L-shaped and it was a foot tall and wasn't hard enough yeah so I didn't proceed with that I did make one I did make one that went in a doorway I had this card Mary Poppins I had this card and I had the ring in the string and and you tie you put it up in the doorway with the instructions are on the back and you'd hook it on the door I like it great yeah El Toro and I took it to the trade show down in New York City and uh we proceeded but uh what happened from there is it wasn't big enough for me you know I think it inspired the ti toss oh absolutely that's that you know Cog Republic has one of them I was doing in the doorway yeah you know it was about a dollar but anyway um so it wasn't enough so I thought about it and I thought about it for eight years yeah and then I thought posts was my aha moment and all these creations come to me in middle of the night like 3:00 in the morning of course wake up no good idea comes out at regular times so I had this idea I I see the whole thing I saw this in my mind I went down to my shop in the basement and I made this yeah this is it and you can see it's not much different it hasn't changed a bit really yeah since I saw this all of my I didn't have to change anything it was done that well that's all your years of Art School sculpture you're like tying it all in somehow it just goes in there and now inventions yeah so I made that and then I and and took me a couple years I got it to this model and I took it into the Boston gift show and I love the fact that you're not afraid to throw yourself out there you're like going to big big spaces Oh I thought it was fantastic yeah this is going to be big so and I had a friend that was also doing products and he was in there so I knew how to do it with his help and uh so I took that to the Boston Gift Show it was a big hit yeah they told me it was the hit of the show yeah so you're expecting any minute these dollars are going to roll in well they kind of did I I took it I S the the reviews from the show yeah to gift WEAR news magazine for they put it in there they featured it in their magazine amazing the gift WEAR news National National magazine so this is good the channel craft people were there manufacturers toys and gains they came over and talked to me and said Well we'd like to take buy to take this and uh Market it around the country all all they do all the trade shows so I'm thinking this is fantastic and I was very happy for here's my retirement for a couple of years they yeah was like you know there's a time where things come together that was kind of a right time they took it and they were selling it at the trade shows which is a big expense they go to the big trade shows around the country and after a couple years they came to me and they saidwell this has been great i' love your product but we'd like to make some changes and we' like do some packaging packaging ideas we'd like to spend some money on it yeah and in order to do that we'd like to have more control of the could would you be all right with that and we'll give you a percentage Yeah and I re I reacted like the artist right this was like this is this is my baby you can't have it yeah if you get a picture it's like this is my painting yeah and you want to finish it rightfully so and so I didn't do it yeah so the artist made the decision the businessman that I wasn't made a mistake because I thought I'll take it I'll finish it off I'll make some packaging back out and here I am now all these years later I know but it's so hard to just say here go ahead finish that I'll take the percentage so that your brain can go work on something else yeah cuz I wasn't F yeah you weren't done with that yeah I wouldn't have that six foot beautiful thing that I can put in a box now yeah right and people have such a great time as I say I I really the reason I continue with it is because I took it in the Fel Hall I take to the farmers market see people playing it and smiling and enjoying it yeah and I said I can't just stay in my house I have to I I I can only take it there yeah myself I need other people to be able to do it which which means I need to put it yeah yep exactly or you need to customize it or do an actual installation where this is a permanent thing here and this lives here yeah it's it's really and I realize the large one the six foot one isn't for everybody to buy it's really for people to do what I do that I take it places yeah put it out and let people play it y so businesses or event people if you're looking for a fun activity to just leave and and let it happen
