Lisa Bates on Sea Star Olympic Games & Mace Race coming up August 17th

is not proud of it hold on look at us on a Friday here we are I have really missed you same honestly same I missed laughing with you we've been down here for like half an hour I'm sorry we're late to start the show but we're like kitting I'm like oh yeah we should probably do a show like the six month catch up in like two seconds well that's what happens when you start you know doing doing life and you've had a lot of Life yes so many things have been going on for you so many things yeah I think that's yeah that that's the only way to say it feel like it's accurate it's just a lot yeah and I'm I'm not usually an overwhelmed person but I'm like Bing Bing Bing okay well yeah yeah when you think you have free te Lisa and I both suffer from that we've got plenty of time to do this we are going to do this and we're going to do this and we're going to do this and then the next day everything is wrong everything's off 14 more things happen Mike okay well we're not going to do that then so we have big plans for the rest of our lives we'll eventually get there but Hank said to me where's Lisa you guys F no we're busy in doing our life I think that's every C Cotter in the summertime we think we've got so much time and then the Summer's over no I know and I say this every year I know better like like nothing's going to happen in the summer but survival yeah and I still think and I still try to do all of these things I'm like what is wrong with you you just got to get it done you gotta you know so but it's good it's all good the Museum's doing well and let's reintroduce Lisa to everybody in case you have not seen her lovely face or know who she is we're not going to go with lovely this morning you look great I can see your monitor just ignore us focus on you you right there right well it's hot I'm sorry there's no way to look good out there I don't care what kind of hair you have I don't care I'm on my second outfit by 7:30 this morning I'm not loving that because we have latavala tonight we've got a big fundraiser for the mash B Chamber of Commerce and we are very excited it is a soldout event and it's going to be outside tables and chairs are being delivered at 9:00 am I'm there at 9:30 slinging things around is it covered no so I mean it's like a little bit covered but it's not it's it's outside we're we're free we're out there I don't know if anybody got some wind turbines to make us cool down at all right oh my goodness yeah we could get some big fans donated that would be amazing if anybody has any of those get those industrial ones although the tables I don't think this the volunteer weight staff is going to really appreciate everything being blown at us so it's gonna be a great night regardless I know that the Kean is going to be flowing the food is going to be happening and the entertainment is going to be Stellar so yeah uh have fun everybody I wish I could be there but we're going to be over at Ryan family doing our first time doing our game show oh c Cod Feud at Ryan family amusements in hyenas in hyenas at the mall at the mall the 10 pin eery oh nice so this is our debut it is going to be like full of warts and and all we're just rolling it out we're going to see how it flows Cliff did all the electronics for it so we've got the buzzer Cliff um oh absolutely we got the play buzzer love that game this is not going to be the last time we're doing it this is just kind of like okay we're going to put it out there we're going to do it we're going to film we've got eight families and families are very loose it's your chosen family your friends your relatives whatever Museum I I'm happy to do it like we're just test driving this brand new game okay and uh we're working with our friends over at on Cape magazine who H they're fabulous they gave us like real Cape cotters data on what they are answering for their poll questions so this is truly Cape Cod Feud a cape Cotter would answer like what beach we would go to what ice cream we would go to it's tonight and it's tonight is our first one and so we're gonna film these and so we'll release them one by one by one and we're gonna invite more people to keep competing what a great idea and just have a really good time you know we needed to do something different and I thought it was fun it's a it's a new idea so it's not like the game show but it is like the game show so people know you get to hit a buzzer then it's game show well clip brought it to Dos on Monday for trivia and we've let drummer Steve had a I'm like if it's going to break I want it to break now so go it's like bringing it to the children's museum be like bring it to me I'll break it for you try and break this oh don't even say that go 100% so I'm I'm excited to be able to roll this out and it's going to be a it's going to be a test run this time so don't judge us but also we'll have some laughs I said and gaffs and see where we go from there that's awesome I know so yeah it's a very busy Friday here at lemon Ado um what's been going on at the Museum because I haven't even been able to go and see the new exhibit oh my gosh it's so popular it is it C it it came out better honestly than I thought it was going to so that that's like a I have high expectations and I'm still like this is it we are so what's fun is in the summer we get everybody who came last summer yeah you know the the the visitors and they walk in there and we did a lot of extra stuff too that people wouldn't notice we painted the ceiling whatever it's brighter it's better the lighting has changed you know and all the all of the exhibits have been updated if you haven't been but they come in and they go oh oh wow right like instantly and we're like yes well it was so funny when I just like Google I always like to Google things to see where everything is and Lisa was like that's an old photo that wasn't even this this isn't I know I can't get Google to fix our photos I was like no that photo is 25 years old if anybody's a Google genius please contact the Cap Cod Children's Museum and discovery so that we can figure out how to get those oldos from years ago gone they're still the front photos I'm like no matter I them I have friend guests put their stuff up so anyways but the water table so our our collaboration with whoie is amazing like it's just amazing so we're you know when people say you're just a play Space well now we've taken that play Space which you know is all about education and took it up like a hundred notches it's so needed to though it's one of those when you started this endeavor at the C Children's Museum good morning years ago Dave Jeff uh Christine Christine from the sandwich chamber hi hi you and I were talking about this and you're like this is my vision for this place we're going to age it up we're going to have this we're going to make it a destination Museum I want this I want this wow you remember all I 100% do as we you're in my head I loved it though because you know when we were working on our podcast together and like you had this vision for this space and you're making it happen and it's so exciting to see Ste by as a friend who watches you what sometimes you feel like you're trudging through water and not moving forward when you really are and now to see it happen thank you it's awesome it's great and even like the staff like they we have an amazing team right now they are so talented when you come in and see what an did to a wall a 28 foot wall and created the depths of the ocean complete with freehanding the creatures that live there so cool I mean I bought her scaffolding like that's that was my contribution to the whole artistic end like please don't fall down please don't fall like here's a gate like be safe and it is it is just phenomenal and like you can hear the kids yelling and laughing and they're playing in the water and the water so the people who built the water table we finally settled on a smaller company and they built it to our specifications which very cool shows the water cycle and that was really important like it starts with a raincloud and it goes down through the mountain and into the rivers and it's really just starting to educate people where we're an island we're Peninsula we live in an aquafer and we have to take care of it it is so different than everywhere else in the world yeah so I think working with hoie on that message plus their scientists like we had people come who had just left Antarctica they brought their robotic camera thing they're studying Penguins a colony of penguins and like just doing this and brought us the science so it's a win-win for both and they were excited to be there the kids are like you know just it's awesome th those collaborations mean so much for us to be able to connect with the people that live here that are doing so many cool things world renowned they're in our backyard yeah and on their end they were saying we need to be out there if we can be out there via a children's museum how wonderful like we're in a National Science Foundation Grant uh contest and it's us and a children's museum in the Caribbean and we will share the shark science that this scientist is going after they funding for I know I think I should go to the the Caribbean and help consult I think you need help I think you need an assistant um that can document all of that for you we have the whole travel blog we can resurrect that that needs to happen 100% someone was just asking about our podcast the other day we still get numbers on that podcast I know I've seen and I've seen our our social every now and then I'm like oh wow oh I remember her remember back when we could take Adventures no I very much thought of you when we were doing train travel I don't know if you know but Lisa wrote the book on train travel she really did two of them um so I had an amazing trip with our kids you definitely inspired it like this is how this whole conversation with you and I got started right because you wrote the train travel book when you were at cood Way Way Back yep and you had me on yeah and I was just so fascinated by it because I was like I had such wander lust and I wanted to do these things and I just started doing them and we reconnected Lisa and I played adult basketball 100 years ago that's how we met and then I ended up on your radio show I ran into another one of my um in a former life friends Jojo and she's like hey girl I just drove past you in that lemonad mobile uh football season's coming up what about it and I'm like oh I don't know I think this girl's football days are over but uh yeah I don't know I I was like I don't know hit me up she's like well sign ups are next week I'm like I don't know three on- three basketball half court possibly sandwich all right okay that's what I'm going for anyone wants to play let me know building up the numbers I might be in for that no running up and down the court like stay on one end listen I'm all in 2024 I'm all about getting myself a little bit healthier you know back to the gym again I'm back to doing the things that I needed to do that I put aside for a while so I don't know if I want to jump right into football I'm like maybe next year but I'll beat you for a drink afterwards girls be right there with you definitely so they've got so much going on over at the Cap Cod Children's Museum I'm so excited for that um new uh just play space but it's also changing your name a little bit we are we added the Discovery Center we did because I think um and I've tested this out over the year children's museum has a certain connotation for a certain age group and everyone calls us the littles well we're not for Littles anymore in fact we have a an entire stem room you have to be six years old or older to go in I love that so we are really all of our new exhibits all of our new energy and programming is all focused on ages 6 to 12 because that's the I mean we have to expand our Market on the Cape there's less and less younger families but it was needed that group needs a place to be they need to be off their phones moving their bodies learning things and once you put them in a new setting like that they're off and running I mean I have 12- year olds that play like four- yearolds I also have seveny olds he like right give me some attitude but even them we're able to win over from like scavenger hunts and Escape rooms like there's something for everyone it's always been such a special place for me and in my family I know and it's wild that that my daughter's going off to college right now and my son's going to about to be a sophomore in high school and it was just one of the the safe places that they would go while I was working we would have our opair and she would take y she would take the kids to the Cape Cod Children's Museum because that was the only place that Cody would just run around and love everything about it you can play for hours exactly multiple times and that's what we say to our local families like get a membership you're gonna it's going to more than pay you back very very short l so um yeah those families that take it enjoy it and things it's just been a special place for us in fact when we were on our trip and train travel and we stopped and uh every children's we stopped in Prague and actually met our uh Marie Trace who lived with us and she goes do you still go to the children's museum Cody and I was like funny that no but I'm friends with the director over there so well I I'm always in a staff t-shirt especially in the summer you can not go anywhere grocery store doesn't matter I had my birthday party there oh I love that place so we're we're actually we're in the silent phase of a campaign we're announcing in January to uh raise a million dollars I love it big goals our 35th year um so we're 35 years old 25 years in the building we're in 10 in fouth where it started wow so it's time and there's some big things we want to do so I know it's out there I know that Cape Cod can support Cape Cod even if it's in in a small way but we have a whole generation like my children who are in their 20s who can learn to start giving and donating back to something that you know benefited them benefit their children Emily says I think your assistant needs an assistant and how much is a membership you have different price points for different ages yeah it's all on the front page of the website yes and different uh we have a a yearr round one we have one that's just for Cape families that's uh September to June that people love military one so check it out um because if I quote the numbers I'll get them wrong I know and if you're in need you can always ask we'll figure it out a space for you for sure y um it's just it every kid should have a membership there it's really the gift that keeps on giving as you add more stuff to it too and we've got a little change in programming now we've been doing the mace race for I don't know I feel like I it's fifth year fifth year this is this is number five years five years yep wow and we're making it a little earlier this year yes we've changed um we're taking uh we we've put a new Twist on it almost every year and this year we actually moving the date it's August 17th it is the sea star Olympic Games and fifth annual mace race 5K fundraiser so cute yeah so we're taking all the Olympic energy and we're going to have Olympic events and demonstrations I like it yeah and you can win medals you can do obstacle courses and we're still having the mace race which is an out and back from the museum you can walk at you can run it it's nice and flat it's it's perfect it's the perfect 5K um we have a lot of young kids doing it um that's my happiness I love it the little people are crossing the Finish Line right we even do a little little little road race up and down in the parking lot and then we have a giant balloon arch like it's the most fantastic the best yes Karen Karen Baron Baron our balloon artist and she's amazing no you can't have her don't even ask uhuh no I borrowed her one time that's it like that was I'm very slow I know select borrowings of Karen she's just fabulous she's one of our team that and they they they can do such amazing stuff and that's what makes all the difference you've had some good team members added recently I'm really excited for that yeah 100% And we we we've grown our board and our fundraising committee to help for the campaign so we're excited so the mace race so get your tickets by August 10th we're we're doing the reduced rate of um I think it's $10 for members and 15 for non-members if you think you got a week you don't just put it in your phone now just remind yourself to buy that later the following week but on the 10th we'll go up to $20 for everybody so get them ahead of time and um yeah it's it's really fun on the 17th yes 17 it's some it's something in that number I know um oh 3: to 6 P p.m too it's an afternoon this time there is Falmouth Road Race we weekend Oh plan for it so the people are doing the Falmouth Road Race is doing their events in the morning and we figured there's families who have come for the race the next day if you want to just come hang out and do something fun with your kids 300 to 6 p.m. all right perfect so get your ear ends over there grab your tickets for it and um what what I was thinking for the Olympics that are currently going on there's a Canadian swimmer I don't know if you've been watching any of the Olympics is that the cupcake guy um no oh um her name is Summer Macintosh oh she has just won her third medal another gold medal oh she's 17 years old she's 17 years old what did did you do by the time you were 17 nothing what did I do I don't know I got a job at a pizza place I'm like that's 17 years old amazing well on the other end Simone biles is 27 she's the goat and she's old right what I know I get it I know for gymnastics but wow go figure yeah I haven't been watching too much of the Olympics but when I saw this 17-year-old winning her her third medal and I was just was like oh my god what have you what did you do by the teror 17 zero things it's just very incredible I turned on um we have guests we're swapping our houses we have guests from Montreal currently and I was showing them how to use the TV and UPC came uh fencing I don't get it cliff and I did fencing one time I don't get it we laughed our rear ends off I just like putting on the Beehive thing four hours they're doing this they don't even change their stance like the one I've seen thinking to myself one leg must be getting so much stronger than the other and one arm like your very lops up I don't know it's got to be a more fun workout that just work it out I guess I guess it's lunging but then I saw badminton yeah have you seen bad mitton at the Olympics no okay it's not what we another no it's another level like that table tennis lady I was talking about this week she's 61 years old and she's winning matches she retired four times they keep bringing her back and they are whipping that at each other it's not jump I can't watch this seriously Emily I got a good kid award at school yeah what have you done by 17 see that's nice that's great Emily there you go good work my God be mindful of the roads this weekend we've got the pan Mass challenge that is happening because we don't have enough obstacles on the cape let's throw in bike riders let's do it worst time of year what worst worst time of year to have extra problems on the road my son just decided he likes biking and bought himself a bike and he lives in Southie oh like you're making me cry like please but we did go in for one ride and I will say if you haven't done this even if you get the blue bikes the renters yeah the bike lanes they've set up around the the Charles and through it's really nice oh all right well I would enjoy that I really felt safe like I was like enough off the road pylons in between us in the car cars and just zooting around well where I didn't feel safe biking Amsterdam I'll tell you that right now those people are psychotic yeah no heard psychotic I you know death is quicker over there I've never seen anything like it before they will mow you down they do wears helmets over there nope none nope nope y I can't it's like the number one that's the number one crime over there is bike theft it's very surprising given what else they're doing over there theft right well that's not a not illegal that's true just walk around and do that help yourself everybody um today is National Coloring Book Day a National Ice Cream Sandwich day so I perfect day to have cap got Children's Museum over to have a conversation you've also got Night at the Museum yes yes Wednesday nights were open until 7 PM so those have been going great yeah we added like older kid stuff and different like we had I like your events this year they're different yeah well we're trying to do the that we can do because everybody seems to be doing the same things you know every place has got all of the stuff so we're like let's just use what we have so we have a massive space to do remote control car races very cool and set up ramps and all of that we bought I love torama so we bought all these I know we bought 10 tents and we set them up and they have clues in them so you have to run in and out of each tent that's kind of fun it's really fun like if you just do silly things that are very different and because you can you know like it's not like we have a few dinosaurs we have like 50 dinosaurs for you to play with like that's what makes the difference yeah kids are like who so I love that they're little faces it makes me so happy do you know what we just opened that blows my mind how popular this is so we're building a new bank and numbers exhibit and we added a post office to it okay do you know how popular the post office is yeah because they don't know what it is we don't we we don't even know what it is I have said to parents I'm like do you think there'll be a post office in their life probably not yeah they love it all ages there were older kids who had like FedEx boxes and they were they had the uniform on they were checking maybe it's because it's so much delivery now I'm not kidding you that is hysterical an an who did the mural has a friend who works at a post supplied us with all the stuff it's hilarious that makes sense though I had uh it does not make sense to me I usually got a good read on what kids like in my post office I had a um I got together with an old friend last weekend and we were boting and we were just talking about one of their Nextdoor neighbors retired or 50 years old retired but Bitcoin and so he has all this money and he said that's all he wanted to do was spend a day with FedEx so he got himself the outfit and he was supposed to like work out a work share I don't know what the obsession is but he wanted to work for FedEx for a day so they let him be like an honorary delivery guy can you imagine this is your life I have so much money this is I just want to work delivering packages for the day just cuz I just watched a Tik Tok video or something on people who deliver and then get attacked by cats and dogs like it's a treacherous job no thank you that is not something I want to do dogs have gone through the screen and you see them running and throwing packages my cousin is a mailman and he has a walking route he walks 17 miles a day and and loves it he's gonna live forever right I feel like in the summer I walk 17 miles a day around the museum picking up toys but how's your back Lisa how's your back getting it done and I tell you what when we were when we were over on vacation you know you you walk way more go things that you never would yeah and we I lost 10 pounds I was doing like 20,000 steps a day I'm like who am I let's get the backpack let's go not only that like we found when we lived in in Ireland and I I don't even want to look into this too too far I ate more butter and uh Nutella High but no additives right they do it differently there it's pure and again lost weight no problem I was like okay what are we doing to our food over here that's changing who we are and how we metabolize it you can find us over at the mash B farmers market fresh food right fresh produce we may have live lobster pickup all we'll find out later on today this week it depends on the catch it's been a bad scallop season for our scallopers and it's been a tough lobster season apparently so look who you're talking to I have no idea well it was really funny I was talking to the Salt guy I never thought I would be having these conversations and here I am talking to the great marsh salt guy and uh we're we're talking about the the scallops and he said yeah it's you know it's been rough about this and that and I was like I migration he's like the scallops migrate I'm like I don't know I'm making stuff up I have no idea I ended up talking to the girls over at chadam Harvesters and she said there's a fiveyear cycle with them and this is on the low and I was like that's much better than my migration madeup thing that I spitball it over there making stuff up I know nothing yeah I got I don't eat seafood I don't like seafood I don't even look at Seafood that's why I enjoy going out to eat with her because I like all the stuff she doesn't so I'll get the extras I'll take your beets it's good try it I won't bring up the beat incident it's not they're not good they taste like dirt I told you they did before I put it in my mouth and then you made me do it anyways your husband is freshly reti Reed how is that I will never retire in fact I picked up six more jobs busy he's a teacher so I'm used to the summer retirement but I'm also used to by this time of year I'm like okay a few more weeks going back to work yeah few more weeks well you guys got to bop away for a little bit you you took the C I'm loving this recreational vehicle Lisa all of a sudden it was like I bought the boat I got the this I I wanted toys I bought toys she did all of them break but whatever they're all toys but you're actually using them right now we're using them I like the camper I don't know I like the simplified life you can only have so much like the small I just like it we can travel with our dog like you know all that stuff so um I am sort of retiring I should say that because not from like work work but as I informed him since he's a bit older than me and he gets to retire I'm not doing any of these things that include cleaning the house buying the food cooking managing oural making the I go all you this was actually I still will have all of our children's issues because they will always call call me fine I love them I will deal with that but I don't now when I come home from work like I want there to be food in the fridge or some form of yeah you're home right I'm home what's for dinner I had this conversation actually cliff and I were having this conversation and it wasn't like a fight but it got kind of a little bit like heated as we were discussing it on the way home was an argument about reallocating who does what and who is in charge of what like we're at a different phase of parenting we're at a different phase of our life 100% And I feel like we need to reallocate who every two years you should renegotiate these things on figuring out yeah yeah just so we're not pissy about it like I'm so sick of having the same argument about the same things that you should be doing or I should be doing or who's doing this and as moms I'm sorry we always carry more of the load we always will and I'm in a lot of ways okay with that because I have a great bond with my kids and I love that they check in and they ask questions they were or they yell at me they're yelling at me a lot lately but whatever um I'm like oh wait didn't have anything to do with this how is how did this become my problem okay I wasn't even there oh whatever right you're getting blamed for it you did exactly but U safe space safe space safe space to yell at me I I appreciate it don't yell at your boss but um I'm at work and you're yelling at me and I wasn't I don't even know what we're talking about I didn't do anything why do I get that I I actually did happen at work and was an older woman and I and she kind of lik she said something wrong and I'm like I don't know adult child adult child and she said oh I can relate before I even said I say no more we all know he's yelling at me for something I wasn't even she goes I know parents of little people just know that never not going to be your problem Y in fact you things you're doing right now you're going to hear about again this gets more expensive and then you ruin their life I don't even know why I'm here at least you got to get away camping and the boys went with you which I love that your adult children went away with you I honestly didn't think they'd say yes like we just threw it out there like Hey we're going to visit friends we're taking the camper so we can take the dog and you know and they jumped on it and they actually had an attic room uh like over the garage so the boys stayed there yeah but then we ended up at another place that we went to as children so bringing now if you have Littles and you bring the we went to the same camp every year in vacation for like 10 years so cute it was adorable and and when we went I had visions of them all being little and running around well they came and they went back to the bedroom and then the stories remember the time I'm like wait a minute was I was I here I wasn't on the ground floor of that I didn't know that thank you you fell off that tree branch how'd you get out of the water you know like that's really cute no it was fun it is I love actually love having adult children they are very enjoyable it's fun to watch their little lives evolve and I like that they like to spend time with us you know that that's a good thing so yeah you did something right but the husband thing yeah there's going to be a big learning curve this year reallocation of things yeah he yeah he vacuums well we've discovered takes him four hours but he's thorough if I'm not there to see it and get annoyed it's fine you know what I mean like that's true if I was there trying to like okay we gonna do this we gonna do this are you still vacuuming that's are you still in the living room like honestly I'm really I'm Lisa is also a Virgo so is my husband you're both very opposite of the way that you present as viros and her husband Kevin and I are both Capricorns we're both opposite in the way we present ours it just makes me laugh but I cannot watch my husband do a task because it's so painful that I have I have to leave I remove myself from the room I can't because I'm like full of judgment that I shouldn't be I should just be happy that he's doing it and leave no we're never gonna be it's like when you watch a kid try and sweep like and you're just like oh never mind kids I have patience for surprise you know but but kids I get but adults that I'm like I got nothing like we we have guests coming and there's an order there's a pecking order to the cleaning it's like you don't put the fresh sheets on five days in advance like you don't vacuum five days in advance like we can however wash the cabinets that have't been washing like I don't know how long and like just weird well now my the other thing is now my house is really clean like it needed nice it makes me do it so jealous can like live off this until next summer when I have to do it again so nice not me I've got the pile of kids situation and uh my son is the the you're moving somebody to college I am moving somebody to college and my son is moving all of his friends here we're now the house so the other morning I talked about it where I came downstairs and I'm like why why am I sticking to the floor look down barbecue sauce all on the floor barbecue sauce splattered all over the freezer barbecue sauce splattered all over the fridge last night was washing the Seal of the refrigerator to get the barbecue sauce because the fridge would close basically I think that that's what happened wo I if I only had a ring cam inside my kitchen I'd be able to know exactly what occurred in the middle of night whether we were juggling condiments or whatever we were doing in the middle of the night but no because it'd be bing bing bing all night long with my kids and they're raccooning in the middle of the night eating all of my food I am ready for them to go back to school I am so ready is Cody doing football I think we're gonna do football he's going to do it casually um he he we're dealing with a a spleen situation with him oh I know I don't know if you guys were privy to the fact that my son swallowed up top of a soda can at the beginning of Summer oh yeah I remember that swallowed it well they did some Imaging and they found out he had gall stones and an inlarge spleen and so we were rushed to Children's hematology all of those fun things and basically his spleen is like four times the size that it should be but there's nothing physically wrong with him at this point so his chances of of having a a situation I was like buddy what about it you know find something less contact maybe be a kicker yeah so he'd rather just have the spleen removed and play football so isn't it mono that gives you some is that's what yeah it's not okay like it's not I was like could he just have a big spleen they're like yeah he could but we didn't know until he decided to swallow the top of a soda can so here we are every mother's awesome excitement of go driving your kid for ultrasounds and bringing you know and he's nervous and scared course well that's scary I know to be anything that that was part of our summer just like and now he's like only laughing because he's fine but right I know it's just it's a lot there's just a lot happening in the universe right now let me just tell you I just saw that cardi B the things Lisa don't doesn't know but cardi B just filed for divorce and is pregnant so I'm like what's that what's that fight about like I said to have a ring cam in the kitchen I would have liked to seen what is going on between card being offset right now in the kitchen that's making her want to take a divorce while being pregnant and older mind you I saw 15 life skills people under the age of 38 never learned okay and 38 right navigating with a map yes sewing being a team player now I thought they were much more you know schols became more project oriented and this is your team I don't think so I think we're device oriented it's just us and our Tik toks at this point in time shopping in stores instead of just going online and buying it for yourself cooking from scratch didn't Co change that though I think that that everybody making sourdough bread now and all kinds of things and Lily is now ordering her flow from overseas and making her own pasta I I was like I don't know if you'll be able to do that in the dorm room but uh hopefully get a roommate that likes that oh funny she's a hoot she is minding their own business we don't do this everybody's a sleuth everybody's solving crimes no one has ever done that no never I'm sorry it's not just the 38y old so what's their name we're all doing deep Dives on their social media to see what kind of human being they are before we even want to engage them minding your own business it's gotten way worse than ever picking up books from the library it is still something that I like to do I love the library I introduced my retired husband to it and that is part of the problem oh now at least he's not buying any more books he's a history teacher so you can imagine how many books God uh but now he's getting like three or four at a time and he can read all day that's awesome all day all day that's weird but awesome swe he sees the car coming down the road throws the book jumps up what child walking in fluffing some pillows what have you done not much like you know he's been doing nothing but reading all day I love that 100% oh like like I don't know every inch of my house what's been moved and what hasn't what food's in the fridge and what isn't just like holding a sponge pretending to clean things oh you're home hi you clearly know what he's doing yeah socializing I think they just socializing you ski one using a rotary phone oh they don't know how to do that we have a whole setup of what your phone can do and I have the rotary phone from my kitchen where I grew up you should see the kids they put their fingers in the holes and expect something to happen they don't know we took the cord off or else I could have showed them like a 20 foot cord all wrapped up in that is a hazard in a children's museum that's so we could take it from this room to that room to that room this one even reached upstairs yes exactly we put a lot of trust in that cord out of out of yell reach from my father get off the phone using a watch I think eyew watches are popular right y brings it back I do look at the time quite a bit no I won't because it tells me how many steps and stuff and I don't need to be constantly reminded forgiving family repairing used items yeah we don't we're in a definitely throw it away Society we're working on that over at the mashby farmers market with our reduced reuse and rinse cups you've got a nice new water bubbler over there we do yes we put in a we have a whole cons cons conserve Cape Cod uh area and we've got the water bubbler and we've also added solar panels so we have an explanation of how they work and how they're powering the museum thank you very much care for Cape Cod very nice job um putting Family First picking them up by the bootstraps toughing it out right oh definitely it's not that they don't want to work it's not that they don't want to work through things it's just that they they have an impossible time of toughing it out if it doesn't feel good right now then it's not worth exploring instant gratification yeah that's that's what this does this is what changes us you think that that's what it is th% you can gra you can get instant gratification off of this every day 24 hours a I mean all day 24 hours a day you want need to know something it's there you want to ask something it's there you want to talk to somebody it's there bing bing bing bing yeah it's almost like you can see that your skin itching it's it's an addiction oh it's bad yeah no yeah my kids get like panicky when they don't have it yeah well you've seen the big movement to remove them from schools yeah it's been very dramatic very dramatic yeah but it's fine they follow the rules that's one good thing about that they'll listen and understand that we have to do this and that's what it is my son is a big rule follower yeah in fact I was making out my my wishes I change every day I was I leave here just in case if something bad happens to me I make lists and I I put it over here and I I put Cody in charge of things because he's the fair police that's hilarious I know I have to update my will but this is my moving updating will this counts everyone it has been said live I'm letting you know Witnesses including me I'm letting you know that just in case check my desk though I can't be anyone's executive ever again you deal with that treacherous role that whoever you ask be nice about it because it's a lot they they make it hard for someone to die and for the family to deal with it it's it's insane I've got to have Chris Boyd on the show he's like a financial planner but also he addresses this on his own podcast something more with Chris Boyd a lot about like like just planning for those situations but I don't even know if you can plan for a lot of that you can I think there's a lot of things you can do like the will like setting up your accounts like making sure that people know where things are by putting another name on your account please like it doesn't mean they have to have access to it yeah but should you pass then go oh you are the sister the daughter the whatever like it's it's very hard if it doesn't happen that way yeah yeah any you've been you've been through it for sure I'm all set no don't ask me I don't care anyone else that's it I'm done I've done my duty Lisa has moved Beyond it at this point in time I will keep it very simple for for when I go like it's gonna be very cut and dry it'll fit on a piece of not that's what I'm saying I'm like I don't need really own anything so I'm good I'm working on the reduction of all the stuff that we do currently have love it God this place is just a packr my po my my j1's are I think they've expired they're ready to go home I think we're all ready to move into that fall space and I know I'm trying not to ruin and end your summer but it's August 2nd we got a lot I think my August is completely planned for It's A Lot H excuse me a lot happening in August I I I can't believe we're in August but I'm also okay with it I'm a fall girl this this heat I'm done yeah I didn't opt to live in Florida I can't deal with the humidity thing yeah it just I don't know I I get in a bad mood I get tired I get like I just want to and I don't even really love air conditioning but I'm like yesterday afternoon came home from work like went straight into the bedroom flipped on the air conditioning flopped on the bed I'm like well at least it's nice and cool over at the cave Cod Children's Museum so if you need your kids we do have air conditioning Inside Yes head on over there we hard can use our outside space cuz we open that I'm like oh oh my goodness no that'll be perfect for the fall we hung plastic meat locker stuff not kidding it works awesome cuz everybody come open opening the door we're losing our AC out there well I did you know I worked in so many restaurants and you have the freezer and everything I'm like we always had to pass through the plastic I'm like that's smart yeah we hung it up it's made a huge difference I love it it's the little stuff Lisa Bates is here from the Cap Cod Children's Museum and Discovery Center if you've not checked out the museum in a long time I don't know what you're waiting for they've got a lot happening and a lot of changes uh and plenty of programming once again talk about the mace race that is coming up because we've got a change of dates and it's coming fast like you've got a week to get signed up for the reduced price and then after that I mean it'll be here yes it's Saturday August 17th from 3: to 6 it is Falmouth Road Race weekend their children's events are in the morning so we moved ours to the afternoon and we not only are having the Fun Run and walk but we're having uh the sea star Olympics so we're going to put out different Olympic events that your kids can try obstacle courses demonstrations that kind of thing we're going to have Stephanie and lemono there so very excited music makes everything and um yeah so get the tickets by the 10th because we we wanted to reduce the rate and get you know that going but then after that they jump up to $20 per person so which is still fine cost you 15 to go to the museum so now we're just adding all this much more fun yeah um so yeah it's all on the website you can buy the tickets on the website uh Cape Cod children's museum.org also $ five family nights is that happening our last uh F Our Last Night at the Museum will be Wednesday the 14th and it's going to be $5 family night it's our neighborhood event so it's $5 per person and yeah come see us we'll have all of our fun stuff out so definitely a time for you there this camera is safely over there across a desk this one was like tight on my shoulders no no I was just like yeah yeah the words are fine the the viewing we'll work on that no exactly all right so it is National Farmers Market week this week and we have bod Corona who's a high school student and is fantastic plays Dave Matthews Bruce Springstein oh wow he is an amazing guitarist so we'll have him this weekend if you hear the melodious sounds of bod come on up and visit us at the um mashby farmers market right across from the library inside of knockabout beer garden we've got great new Farms that are joining us Allan Farms is is now with us and their um certified organic farm in Massachusetts so they've got mushrooms and they've got lavender and their tomatoes are beautiful right now corn is fully in season um I've got squash growing in my gutters right out front of my house I don't know how the hell that happened I have no idea I put a picture of it up yesterday I was like can someone identify the squash that is growing for my gutter oh my God I don't know whether it was a bird that dropped a seed that decided to grow or you know my my kids were hurling around pumpkins at the end the last season could have been a variety of things that happened with the barbecue sauce I'm never surprised by where things land in this house so I don't know that's awesome seriously um but we would love for you to just come out grab a sustainable cup and that is good for free lemonade refills for the entire time we're doing this Market which is going on until October 13th and then we're going to do our Christmas Market as well and uh I'm really excited for that we're working on actually having it tented so we might have a little bit of warmth this season as I feel if I don't plan for it it's going to be the coldest winter ever but if I do plan for it it'll be hot and we'll be fine so it's always I'm gonna work on my planning on that space But I'm not ready to talk about
