saraphina and I were in a entrepreneurial book club where Stephanie never read the right book and Stephanie was terrible at this book I really stopped at Club I did not fabulous I'm what I just had a visual just had a visual proud of it happy Monday to you nothing says Monday morning like getting a restaurant worker up early like hey you want to come on a Monday but you were like I can handle that we're grown-ups now y yeah absolutely ish ish well you had a party yesterday I did a 50th we're not old enough for that I I don't know how this has happened right yes you like woke up one morning you're like everything hurts everything hurts absolutely and I used to mock my family and parents for it and I was like I feel like my parents were always old the old ones even though they weren't yeah they just acted that way you're the opposite I am yeah my parents were young extremely and I don't know I just feel like oh God that will never be me and here I am like oh that is so me we're not here to complain to you on a Monday please we're up we're alive we're breathing yes thank God right so many things to do in so little time so Pat you and I have been chatting about getting you on Lemon Ado getting you your own like Squarespace but we had like K we we have kids we had full-time jobs very busyness and both of our girls just went off to college yes once again we're not old enough for this this is crazy so yours went to U yep has she called with like where is she at right now she's good she's she's she's way better than we are okay I'll tell you that isn't it weird with a missing person around the house it's like a phantom limb I'm not kidding it's like an emptiness that you can't put a finger on and it's just like it's weird I'll like pull in the driveway see your car I'm like oh I'm like oh no she's she's not here we didn't have to worry about that Lily never bothered to get her license she had a car sitting in the driveway for her for like seven years one of our girlfriends that left the cape they moved away and they're like we are leaving this gift for Lily I'm like are you kidding me like the princess already has a c no interest in getting her license ever was like one of my main objectives in high school is to get my license possible I would make her drive herself to her driving lessons and she would cry the whole time like I feel like this is wrong on so many levels I don't know what to do am I abusing her right I'm like I don't like this it's like I also am a passenger princess however I still need to learn how to drive it's one of the small skills that you need especially here on cap cot especially when she was working at the melody tent oh yeah yeah and daddy dearest was like oh I'll take my little girl wherever she needs to go you guys are problems you are the problem en absolutely my little girl you know right so she hasn't called with a little bit of homesickness she she so she says uh you know I'm homesick Monday Tuesday and Wednesday oh and then Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday plenty to do it's a little little easier to be to be here that's Frank though and that's very honest I feel like that age ret of kid is so much better than we ever were oh my God yeah with their self-regulating their boundaries yep their just ability to say what they need we we were not those kids nope nope right we would rather hide from our parents than tell them anything that's going on in our life and meanwhile our girls are like oversharing Queens yeah you know they'd be like where you going be like out right where you going with somebody story right and they are so different I got the phone call this weekend like she was a little bit homesick this week things that she missed are regular meals she doesn't like the food sure oh okay that's bum um and also baths she's like one of those self Soother pimpery you know so she missed her bath like her calming space so she was like not able to just chill out and relax meanwhile in the same frame um let me just share a little college experience of my child and then we get that so clearly she seems like she's gonna do seems like she's adjusted well yeah def I think she'll be all right has your daughter ventured down a frat row yet because we know it exists yeah she she's been there and uh and survived and she realized she not not into the Greek life yeah good totally no friend it's a big part of URI yeah I think yeah it is bigger than we thought yeah right yeah but she uh she knows a few girls in sororities and stuff so she kind of you know she can go but she doesn't have to be part of it yeah per that's exactly it that's all you need well it Tik Tock now is like a whole next level of rushing these fraternities and sororities and these videos are crazy like last it was like three weeks ago no they're like these big dance videos and it was all like part of the first few weeks of college and it took over Tik Tok and I found myself fascinated now I'm in the death Loop because you watch one video long enough your algorithm is decided this is what you want to see that's it so every time I opened up my phone I'm like another one of these is this the thing now no Stephanie it's because you watched it exactly uh good morning Cindy good morning Emily oh my God it's that yeah that's that's my Lily we're so proud so our girls are in college our boys are pretty much the same age too like Cody's a sophomore yours is a freshman Y and uh he's he is climatizing to high school life yeah he well he went in like a stud he got to play on the JB Hoops team last year as an eth grader practic varsity team and his you know his sister was a senior last year so he's he went in like knowing everybody right you know being all good so he's he's a lucky little little guy yeah right big guy right you can't say little cuz they're definitely not an inch on him now seriously I don't know what I can't stop feeding him exactly feeds enough for three people so that's fine um yeah they had a big game yesterday on Nantucket we were all worried uh the rain over the weekend was insane I was gonna start getting two of every animal and some wooden Nails you know Cape conod incidents had this video of some guy in Yarmouth like on his little raft just like I'm just riding around the neighborhood through the streets CU this is my options uh yeah we got five inches of rain on an Tucket of like five inches on both of the islands basically and then like three around the cape that's a lot of rain so it's a ton of rain stuff that especially when it's been a month and we haven't had it and then all of a sudden we got stuff to do like oh it's fall weekend and everybody's got all these plans no you don't y how's your wedding so soggy I know my girlfriend friend uh from fleeting moments photography shout out to Denise prman had a fullon backyard tented wedding on Saturday oh my Lord and she said it was like a massive tent and they it did not stop them she said their backyard was full of plywood This Is How We Roll plywood everywhere this party is happening I love it so came God yep and she said it did not stop she was out until midnight she's like I exhausted these people party so how was the 50th that you went to it was great great one of my best buds Ben Sloan 50 you old man love it we had a lot of fun caught up with some old friends and had a few Beverages and here I am at 7:30 in the morning I love it I'm proud of you we rally this is what we do well you're the service industry guy so uh tell everybody where you work I'm at the tradeing post Lounge I'm the general manager there and I bartend four or five nights a week too the best pizza that's good like I love your menu it's easy it's not like I want this I want this they even have pictures thank you thank you thank you picture of beer bring it over and it's affordable which I love yeah yeah it's a nice lunch or quick dinner buddy of mine was in the other day he goes I give him the tab he's like what is inflation not hit this place yet what's going on here well when you keep it simple you're able to do that for your customers so I think it's amazing um sister restaurant is the lobster trap so I mean I like you got varying price points and menus shout out to Dave Delany it real for both places and affable for everybody you know and delicious what's up Dan Chase Gina Cliff Harris house of hatchets we're coming for you October 18th Koke I love it DJ cie Cut is gonna be doing some karaoke over there for lemon Ado so thank you very much for giving us the opportunity yeah and Dan living in Middle America what is going on it's full on Fall now so it's your spooky season you're allowed to do whatever weird witchy fun things scary horror whatnot my son was like can we decorate the house for Halloween never asked me to decorate anything anywhere I feel like we need it this year we already live there buddy it's already here this house is haunted so my office manager Emily happened to be in the house a week ago two weeks ago and really we lost our j1s we lost all of the like our house is quiet daughter gone things are like clean and it is Eerie she's like your house is haunted I'm like oh I know 100% we're on some old Native American burial ground for sure here in mashby we're by the water like there's definitely I was like I when we moved into this house I all I could think of was Poltergeist I was like we're not building a pool right we're just we're not building a pool it's never happening we're not giving it back we have special Insurance here just in case some some tribal artifacts are around here dead serious really yeah and mashby you have to wow it's like a rider on your homeowners wow right yeah think you didn't know right things uhhuh seriously you learn it a Monday right here we are learning you're welcome you're welcome we didn't float away Cap Cod hopefully nothing floated up yesterday in my backyard I haven't checked yet oh God please don't not willing it but yeah we're in spooky season it's fall it's here you're allowed your pumpkin spice lattes now go ahead I know right right not a it's it's just not what other flavors are there yeah just so many more fall flavors Maple oh Maple Apple yep you know there there are other choices make better ones leave the pumpkins alone leave it alone we're trying to figure out some fall flavors because we're doing a um a cog Festival uh we're going to call it the clam jam I think that'll just be fun yeah we got a band and we got the space and I was like knock about we got to come up with a fun Seltzer flavor and I was like pumpkin spice Seltzer no it's like so I think we're gonna go with cranberry sauce Seltzer I think it'll be yummy I like that especially since it's like two weeks before Thanksgiving so I think it'll be yum I know it's tough to make a Savory one we did the um pickle paloa we did tickle my pickle they loved it that was the name of our Selzer I love that they can experiment because they're so small batch over there so they're like all right what of the what of the thoughts and p goes what you should call it is tickle my pickle and it flew out the door so shout out to that marketing brain of his on point it totally is mint sauce no uhuh we're not doing that what's up Craig Craig Bo I haven't seen you Greg bu I haven't seen you over here in a while no we're not doing a cinnamon flavored anything oh no like we've got Fireball it's enough right yes like that's just plast it's melted plastic with cinnamon on it h what's the grossest drink that you see people order all the time being a bartender here on Cape Cod the grossest I made a actually a fireball and soda and I wanted to puke on myself what yeah even the smell of it it's like Fireball you just want you got do it quick you don't need to make it last a long time you know do you judge people on their drink once in a while right you're like oh uh Tito and soda basic b or like espresso Martini she's out to party like yeah yeah they're looking to get down with the espresso Martini it's made a comeback too since the 90s yeah right you're like we don't have an espresso machine here so I okay they're like fine fine I don't care okay all right it'll be sweet what's the most annoying drink you have to make back behind the bar the espresso my team yeah it's right you're like we don't have espresso you don't want this here you don't want it this is not the drink for you here no no right so talk to me about question five this has been a Hot Topic with all my server friends all of my restaurant friends if you follow any of the restaurant Pages first off on the cape what it's just popcorn and entertainment because people are insane yes well in the way the the questions worded it's uh they're trying to pull some trickery yeah you know and um you want to vote we want you to vote no please uh guy like me that's been in the industry for you know since I was 14 um 46 been on the bar since I was 18 and uh this is you owned your own restaurant literally been through every step my heart and soul to it and you know it's what I'm put on Earth to do you know what I mean and uh that it's it's a scary time if this uh this ballot question passes it's gonna you know $15 an hour they they think they're doing us a favor and I couldn't tell you the last time I made $15 an hour right and uh there's so many people like me in the industry that are lifers that do it as their career and you know um it it's I don't know who this question will help yeah you know I mean the owners are going to get screwed you know guy like myself and uh you know it's it's a scary time for for guys like me so maybe talk a little bit about like what is exactly in there that is the wording that's going to throw people right so you know uh the way worded but um it it makes it sound like it's helping us out by raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour over a fiveyear period yeah and um we already that already happens if we don't make if if your you know your wages don't equal minimum wage right the owner has to bump it up to minimum wage so no matter what you're getting 15 bucks an hour yeah you know and that's what people don't understand and you know we're also in this world now where everybody feels like they need to get a tip and it's like dude if you're making 20 bucks an hour you know slinging coffee or work working you know wherever and you know they flipped the thing around yeah like forcing you to tip them it's like that's hurting guys like me too I think you know what I mean it's yeah yeah so I my husband um does like point of sale stuff yep and uh he was recently at one of his clients and it's a bakery and um they were having some issues with whatever and he was just you know trying to help the girl that was at the counter at the time and she just like turned it over for him to pay and that screen comes up no matter what so the guy slammed it around and he was like I've never seen so many people be so rude to this poor girl she's like she couldn't take cash that day right she couldn't take cash that day she had no choice it was like that screen was coming up every time and he's like just me as an observer sitting in the back watching her have to do transaction after transaction of angry people being rude to this poor girl who was like this is my only option today there's nothing I can do about it for selling things dealing with the public this is it beautiful like so understanding but people right are so in what happens when you walk into a restaurant you lose your mind and I don't understand all the time like you know people that are are from out of town and they're like you know walk in and like they look around like they've never been in public before right they're like you know how's this go I go you get restaurants in your hometown they're like yeah I'm like yeah we do it just like they do probably you know I'm pretty sure we do it the same way you come you ask me for something I give it to you and you know you pay for it that that's it it's a pretty easy a good job you give me a good tip thank you transaction over it is insane so um fairly recently um there was actually one of our uh vendors at the mash B farmer Market she's her side hustle is making these fabulous pillows uh shout out to Mud horse you do an amazing job but she also works at a restaurant on the cape and she's like there was a bad review posted about this party that was cancelled and moved and it was like this person went through this every ounce of bad interaction and then the hostess was like sir that's not what happened and went right back at him and I and she was polite she was matter of fact she didn't you know uh hurt his feel she did not go on the offensive she was just like gave a very factual accounting of his perception of his experience right he's probably drinking and everything else well it absolutely upped the amount of people that supported that restaurant and absolutely you can't even get in there to begin with anyway in Harwich on the water so they're they're just fine regardless of the situation she's like please give us another bad review cuz that's how it works at this point in time people are so ridiculous in their encounters I saw someone lose their mind yesterday um that an omelette she was charged two extra dollars for cheese and on the menu it said only guda so but she just got plain white cheese she shouldn't be charged extra for it because the menu only said this type of cheese and I was like it's $2 if you can't afford two more dollars please don't go out please do the world a favor and do not go out to dinner just don't inflation has hit everyone and our restaurants are very expensive it's just the way it is eating at is expensive right why should it come off my back but the amount of vitriol that she spilled for $2 just blew me away all I could think of as John cuac and the paper boy I'm $2 to I couldn't I was blown away by the amount of anger she had over cheese let alone an actual bad experience right I I recently had a a bad experience in customer service okay um and it was it was a it was a little wild it was a little over the top and I just sent a really nice email and I'm like as a small business owner like it this could have been done a little bit better I immediately got a phone call from the owner like oh my God this happened this happened I was like oh I you know I just wanted this to be like I would want this to know if this was happening under my watch and like he was horrified and like I like I felt really bad about it but I wasn't mean at all I was just like look you could have had me as a regular customer all the time and now I feel like I don't want to ever call you right and I don't want to feel like that at the end of the day you helped him out and let him know what was going on yeah and it was just a crazy situation and totally made it right totally fixed the the thing and you know I'll definitely recommend them because he's a great owner right and cares about his business so I think there are ways to interact with people rather than attacking them right to have an actual dialogue with them uh he didn't explain why this is bad yeah exact oh you'll definitely find it Cindy there's plenty there's like 400 conversations about it but one of those restaurant owners reached out to me and said Stephanie can you please talk about people losing their mind and I was like oh great we'll talk about it with that they had someone Lo their mind on me on Friday it was it was brilliant over what um you know they they we're on like an hour wait yeah you know and it's a small restaurant yeah it's tiny and uh this guy didn't you know he he asked me a simple question I gave him a simple answer and he got very mad at me for it um he's literally like how long it's gonna take I'm like you know what I'm not I'm not exactly sure we had a full restaurant blah blah blah blah and he didn't like that answer and then his you know we we we had a full restaurant you'll take out everything else pizzas would take in like 45 minutes well that's it because you've got like the laced edges you've got chicken that has to be cooked properly you've got things that do kind of take a little bit of time yeah so the pizza takes 25 minutes to cook yeah which is much without anybody in there so I know that you're used to your slapping it in a brick oven and having it done in s minutes right it's a different kind of pizza so please prepare yourself for waiting I always like come in there at off times right CU I'm like I want to right exactly anyone who's ever worked at a restaurant you go in the off times because you don't want it slammed you want to be able to get the food that you want and get the hell out yes thank you drive-thru um but yeah so you can't estimate the backup in the kitchen yeah it's it's you know everyone's gonna get fed everyone's gonna get a drink everyone's gonna get fed and you know uh so so every so the people around this guy were getting their food and he comes up he goes everyone around me it's gotten their food okay I you probably would it after everybody else I apologize you'll be next I don't really apologize you know right we go down the line you know you were next and uh he didn't like that answer either so it is a thankless job but I do love the parts about service that are interacting with people um it's it's different it's the same but it's different every day right yeah exactly yep and that you know that's one of the best parts about my job is is the people yeah meeting all the people hearing their stories you know watching their families grow and their kids grow up yeah all that good stuff you know um yeah and you know with this question five going back to it um I don't know if I explained myself clearly here but um the one Fair wage uh plus tips mass is the leading campaign and the support for question five um they've worded the question to make it seem like getting $15 an hour is a live liveable wage yeah you know and I'll make that in a night what I'd make at 15 bucks an hour in a day well that's exactly week excuse me we can't we can't live off that period here on the cage I mean no I mean we have people making $100,000 a year that have two side hustles right like we cannot function on that because of the way our economy is structured and we're going into leaner times right now and if you did not have a boom in summer you're panicking right now to figure out how you're going to make it through and this is when people pick up those shifts that we we lose the J1 workers and we lose our extra people and we have our our winter people come out and say I'll I'll throw in a hand or because I need a couple of extra bucks my electric bill is huge or my this you know this is the economy in which we live in and I love the cape because we are all in it together we really do help each other in that respect absolutely but $15 an hour is really just unlivable right yes yes I I know New York has been test driving this situation this model of payment uh which is also an economy that is unlivable they they seem to be happy back behind the bar but also um I don't know how how it's going to continue for them when you're spending $30 for martini exactly exactly it it it's like who who can do that right on a weekly basis you just can't you're not gonna have your regulars coming then after work drink you know like yeah right I'll meet you at home yeah exactly exactly you're not going to go out for that socialization which also scares me because I think also in the winter around here we have yeah we we really do we need to community we need to be out and talking to each other it's the only thing that kind of Keeps Us sane so if everybody's going home and disappearing and we don't know where they are it's not exactly a good thing mental healthwise went through it for two right we don't need to do that again yeah exactly what's up Tom uh save sandwich road now has got a little boat cruise happening DJ Tundra and I think Luke um from crooked Coast is going to be performing on the island Queen so this is a nice little fundraiser grab your tickets it's happening next Saturday the weather looks good for you nice I know right we never know now now we got to check we had a whole month of where we didn't actually have to check we're like sunay at 70 unbelievable we never had a summer like that no well especially coming off of last year where's misery so much rain we were fine in the restaurant they're coming to us regardless it's fine um we got a full list of activities going on this week we are back to fall season which is exciting We've Got dins Tonight Shipwrecked on um Tuesday we're at Sandwich sherna on Wednesdays Ryan family amusements on Thursdays uh we're just bombing through the schedule we've got two new hosts out there right now and uh they're hungry they want to work so if you're looking for a trivia night or a music Bingo night or looking for a DJ we've got a bunch of them Cindy G is our new DJ on staff and she wants weddings September is wedding season is so if you're planning next year or the year after that definitely come talk to us because Cindy wants to book some weddings and she's a spicy little tamali that one she is super fun like it she is definitely a party starter she just got back from her mexic vacation top optional oh hey top top naked and I like she's a little younger than me and I'm just having this conversation I'm like what was that like I don't think I could do that I don't think I can do that I'm like I'm not as free as I once was I don't think we were we were always like the old married couple and I were like having babies in our 20s like we got it all out in our 20s so now we're like enjoying our life right now right and I'm not complaining about it at all I'm kind of glad that we're in this space where we can enjoy each other's company we've got like little weekends away like we're going to see a Pats game in Nashville I'm going with my girlfriend and we're bopping off for a cruise for another girlfriend this weekend I'm visiting another girlfriend in Charleston CA I can nice and I got $80 roundtrip flights oh love great I'm gonna be in steerage it's not going to be comfortable but I'm by myself and I don't care love it I'm not one of those Comfort people like is it cheap I'll go right you're GNA have to go see my boy Teddy Nixon at the Jammer oh my God right exactly that place is amazing that and jeans is like at my absolute favorite but my girlfriend runs a restaurant down there three little birds Cafe if you're ever in Charleston definitely go check her out but uh she is an absolute Charleston native Spitfire Bo and she has this New England mentality okay which I think she just got from watching TV as a child so when I I lived in South Carolina we immediately became friends because she loved my accent which I feel like I don't have one not like me that that's for sure right and she's like it's so aggressive say that again and I'm like what okay yeah no problem problem I know seriously I don't think that we have super New England accents I don't even think you do I it it goes like in and out on me right you know it's it's like C if I get revved up it comes out right it falls out well big Sports guy too yeah yeah and then you've got the dirty water are you doing anything with dirty water T right now yeah so I I this summer uh was tough for me with that I got in a bad car accident um last January and I didn't have my license they took my license from me because it was a medical uh it was like I seizure yeah yeah that's scary um yeah so I didn't have my license for like nine months um and that got like I I got it I got it back mid August W it's like too late to kind of do anything Billy's still out there doing it uh and you're okay yeah yeah I'm good now yep they actually took me off a couple of my meds the other week and uh look at us being healthy you know losing weight what oh my God I had this conversation with my husband the other day I'm like we're here we're here I had my first colonoscopy it was just I'm like we're old when did this happen I hate it yes good morning Susan thanks for joining us having this conversation as Pat and I are grown up now we don't like it no we don't care somebody posted a meme the other day and it was like uh I take my drugs after I have my night out cuz that's how old I am like yep me too girl give me a couple 800 modin thank you oh my God but that was the worst I can't have Adil for five days I'm like a be I'm like this is I live like this so now I'm taking the step and Cliff is like seriously one at a time I'm like listen easy over there I can't take any of my things right now I can't take my glucosamin and kri and I can't take Advil which means one step at a time yeah back off absolutely lucky I'm not crawling I got bad knees bad knees and bad feet I was at the best ofs uh two weeks ago and I literally wore new shoes and I couldn't walk for a week I had to call out of the gym like I have no skin on my toes I'm like what what how new shoes ended money on this right spent money on ending myself for a week took me out of Workforce for a full week oh my God this is 50 this is what it is I'm out wait what's wrong with you I have no skin on my feet bye sorry have a good one I know my shout out to Jillian over at quen she's like you can work out Barefoot I'm like ew you don't no one needs to see that you don't what you're gonna be behind me with like the little spray and the squeegee no one needs that don't need it in your life absolutely not speaking of old the 30th anniversary of friends yeah we just saw that are you kidding me right David Schwimmer said something funny about Matt uh not Matt leblan the other one that just passed uh Perry yeah Matthew Perry and he's like somebody said something about his work ethic and he goes he never would have said that to me if he was alive Dead Guy humor right okay yeah it's awkward yeah it's a little and and then you know Daman keeps popping up oh God constantly I like always like right yeah he every single Dragon every single Memorial Day we think of him it's like it's the real cap well yeah for you a little different but for me it's always like present and he keeps popping up like you know Amy I saw the other day like just people I run into and it's just like he's really been in my space yeah for the last three or four months he does right doesn't go away and I Damen palanza was a larger than life human being with like the fastest wit and the just the life of the party the funny guy the just Charming humor we had a lot of fun an amazing writer yeah um just a thought leader I feel like and this is stupid why is no one saying anything about it it really was his vein of the way he connected he was Cape Cod lifted up his arm he had the Cape Cod tattoo as everybody shows he actually had to make it proper yeah from the town to town space in which his arm was he was Cap Cod and um it's just every single time I think of of him I think of you it's just you know you guys are the real Cape so I definitely wanted to have you on coming into this Labor Day where it's like our time this is the time the real cap summer that's that's what that is this is it that's what you know that's what you call it September October the real Cape summer yeah and um I know that the Cape Cod chamber has lovingly dubbed it our second summer okay but I'm like it is real Cape Cotter time to get out there and actually enjoy each other and be able to take leftand turns and use the beaches right I was at crisp fairly recently and there was a couple in there from chadam and I'm like why are you guys here and they're like why not we can right like what do you mean to be fair you are correct like I was really excited to see people uh especially from that realm because I think that you specifically have to drive to chadam if you're going to chatam right like it's not something that you would just be like oh I happened on chadow no no you're driving there right on purpose y for something um also the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live and Cliff mocks me endlessly for Saturday Night Live but I love Weekend Update is great I love Colin Jo I absolutely love Michael Jay I adore the show doesn't matter who the cast of characters are I will get a years have been great I think they're great too um I my friend rtb and I are pretty much the only ones that I watch I'm glad that you're in our club now Jean Smart is kicking it off with jelly roll and they've got a bunch of new characters or cast members and I'm looking forward to seeing them absolutely make me laugh please please please I need something funny although Ryan Gosling's beis God that was it was really good it was Unreal like unreal and the way they went with it too it was it was just like oh my God he like me right couldn't even look at his face they couldn't even keep a straight face you know when the people in The Skit can't keep a straight face it's a good one it's definitely a good one um hey Ryan fog Beach days are just around the corner oh dog beach days they're here they're here now Run free doggies get out there that's the best part just to see people out there actually living their lives um that's my favorite part about the farmers market yesterday we had a pony right and I Sayang up just they called hey we're gonna bring the pony down I'm like yep absolutely why would I say no to that yeah and she's just given pony rides and it was like a bigger than a pony horse and I was like could I ride that and she's like um under 250 I'm like yeah I'm on that thing FFF goes IQ you go so today he's up there making his breakfast shake and I'll get you throw it down your throat like a pelican they don't 100% it's great banana bread banana is a very strong flavor yes it is what does your son do for snacks is your house like the hangout house well yeah not not all all the time but you know he he yeah you are you're on rotation yeah exactly we love having everybody over I I love having the kids over you know but I mean he eats out of house at home now it's unreal unreal but he's a snacker he's not like he won't eat like a big meal yep but he'll eat a box of goldfish a box of cereal a Bo of this a box of that you know what I mean inting you know Jesus right gotta go to BJs for these kid but then when you buy a bunch of it then they don't want it decided they don't like it anymore yeah I'm over that I don't like that yeah right and now so you have a fullon warehouse of whatever dumb snack that they liked because you thought you'd be prepared for it no I just I pass it out to the girlfriends thankfully I've got a girl squad of like eight to nine girlfriends ones on the fritz all the time um they're varying ages of kids right there's always somebody doing something dumb in this friend group I'll tell you what I was like oh is to put in this right exactly my husband moved my daughter out immediately and moved his office up to her bedroom she's already been moved if that's Cassie's like you're not changing my room right like right Henry's like takes her TV first day oh yeah next day she's got this huge like karaoke speaker I'm like dude but what's up she doesn't need this she's not here she didn't she didn't take I'll put it all back don't worry Dad don't worry she'll never know oh no she might but yeah she's 100% gonna know exactly Lily was totally fine with it she's like you don't need to leave my museum up she's literally a museum she collects the weirdest things her old lady Museum she's got a curio she has her own China she's an old lady on so her roommate in college is from Nepal okay and she said her first day that um the kids all had the equivalent of the Zoomies and her and her nepes roommate are having a tea party I didn't have too many tea parties in no I definitely didn't have that but then you know I I finally felt better when we saw the um crowd surfing so I was like okay adjustment is is is happened absolutely what's up Kelly thank you for joining us she is from Bramble uh she makes the best scones scones uh and the glutenfree blueberry really good I ended up having that for dinner last night because I was lazy and I didn't want to cook and I was exhausted thank you very much I was surprised that a gluten-free scone could be that delicious she actually made it happen right I didn't I thought that was an oxymoron taste and gluten-free but apparently it's not it was actually good so thank you for that lot of gluten-free people around here now do you get that at the restaurant oh yeah we don't do it like we have a few here they're like that's salad you have a gluten-free pizza nope we have a salad exactly we have what's on that rectangle thing right in front of you with all those words on it that's what we have oh you you don't have uh chicken tenders nope just just chicken wings right there you go right there on the menu the seven things we have there that's what you got got I love that though it's fresh it's fresh it is it really is definitely freezer and I love that you know yeah yay we're making a movement towards better food around here I I think people are finally having it on their radar and I know that's our big mission for the mash B Farmers Market next year is we're doing a big thing that food is medicine and that we start we need to start like actually feeding our bodies real food yeah leaving the boxed children to a better life my at least I'm sneaking it in with my son and I we had like a little bit of a scare over the summer he had an enlarged um spleen oh and then we were at we lived at Children's basically this summer and dealing with all of that yeah and so like they basically said you shouldn't be playing football at all okay and so he's got like extra padding and he's got all kinds of stuff and he did play for Varsity yesterday and these are his choices um but you know if he gets to be a bigger hitter he's going to have to make a choice to remove his fleen I mean these are like weird choices you know but that immediately he started juicing he started eating vegetables he was like you know I'm going to we're going to change this and I was like good for you I love that at 15 you're deciding to make these decisions for yourself because I was never no be like I take this plan right need it yeah 25 before I had water on the regular exactly what exactly hydrate right ma'am you're in the military don't M me we have to fine not part of my vernacular until I was in the military exactly that's why I when I was doing my morning show and they were laughing at me you got mammed I'm like I'm used to it that's military vernacular I'm not taking as an old thing it's not an old thing someone calls me Sirah and I'm like looking around where's my dad what the hell are you talking about oh me it's happened for us it's happen again so let's revisit one more time question number five because you need to vote no on it and the reason why is it's not going to be really changing anything the thought the thought police the thought Prospect uh is is not going to be what you think it's going to be is that what you're saying yes yes exactly and you how are the kitchen people feel about all of this you know what I because I'm always curious about the people back of the house right so that's another part of it question five is that we're you know any tips if if that was to pass any tips would be split with the whole house yeah which you know that's that's just crazy to me yeah that you know I'm people coming to see me you know what I mean and and and it's it's uh my money right yeah that's how I make my money you know and then it's to to split you know yeah you know the cooks the dishwashers everything like yeah it's all part of it but they they get paid a living wage all right right you know and and they they chose that yeah you know what I'm saying so it's like I chose to do this because I know that I can make a ton of money um dude I claim all my tips I don't you know it's not like I'm hiding money no most restaurants make everybody claim all their tips yeah absolutely can't hide anything well like the um ice cream shops did you see that that was a big to-do no apparently all of the ice cream shops now they basically were forced to take credit cards this year oh yeah because Somerset was taking a lot of uhuh a lot of them they realized like their cash business and it just didn't add up oh yeah so they the government basically demanded them sorry your cash slush fund is ended and you need to take credit cards and uh that that became a big to-do a lot of people chose to move on out of the ice cream business because uh that cash fund ended for the bed is sorry I know because when we've got these small um seasonal businesses like that you you've got to be able to access them better so that happened this year that was a big change um so I don't know if question five is on your radar are but some of the things that we have to vote for this one I can least any I have heard no one say I I'm voting yes on it same so I'm curious why this was proposed and who proposed it it's this one Fair wage plus tips St I don't I I don't even know where they came from yeah so maybe is it a government agency that says what about this a couple estate reps are behind it estate sanor um Patricia Farley and Patricia Jaylen I believe those people yeah I don't know they probably never served a Dr have you come to Cap Cod have you ever worked in service everyone should have to do it for at least a week I 100% agree you know how the Israeli military they make them go into the military I feel like everybody should work in service both of my kids did um Lil really had a great time at the melody tent shout out to John and T calesa for uh just really being so kind and wonderful and teaching her the ropes of the back end of service a little bit and uh she loved it she's a hard worker anyway but you know she's from cliff and ey right my son also works at the farmers market loves working the register like could actually he counted back a change and I was like what and the guy that received it was like I'm proud of you buddy and gave him a tip CU 15-year-olds don't really work with cash have no idea they don't and he he counted it back properly and got a tip for the fact that did it right I love it and I was I was even surprised I was like watch again I was like yeah should I jump in here and I was like nope he handed it back and counted it back and I was like good job yeah the blank stairs I get from teenagers like when to tell them to count back they're like yeah right I didn't hit the $100 button it didn't tell me what to do I know I know and I know we have to give them a little bit of Grace but also these are basically soft skills that you should know is like the basic math and counting to 20 or 50 or 100 yep like yeah there there's three scenarios that might get you if you're prepped for those three scenarios I think you'll be okay but really I think it's it's one of those skills but also it teaches you patience it teaches you teamwork it teaches you um just how to suck it up buttercup and you got to work today and how to you know treat people and and truly you know how how to treat a person like a person like human being like a human being they are very much virtual in their space and as we move further into the virtual worlds of AI and whatnot I think it's a really it's it's a skill that I think that we should really still know how to problem solve and still talk to people totally yeah and restaurants are where it happens if you definitely are thinking about having that 14 15 16 year olds get into service start them as a bus person start them as a dishwasher get them into the kitchen and get them to really understand how much work it takes to earn that money because then they'll be less apt to be asking you to just can I have your Amazon can I buy this for you we make Cody buy all of his stuff like he has to earn it yeah and so he's like how much money do I have Dad and then Cliff will give him a number and he's like no I don't he knows exactly to the penny how much he has he wants to see if Cliff is swindling him my 15-year-old is going to be an accountant or a lawyer it is 100% I was like I'll be really disappointed if you're not a lawyer because you will argue anything to the end of time but also he's got an actuary brain and it's not a bad space to be in I love it I love it the two of them mess with each other endlessly Scott 100% everybody should work a season in the industry and they are life lessons like people like you're going to leave the industry say you're going to get stuck with part of my friendship but a bunch of bags Behind Bars and behind counters and serving you and you know it the the why would you want to go the extra step if you're not gonna make extra money and stuff you're just gonna serve people good morning Victoria um we were recently and we were really lucky to be able to take this trip we went to eight countries um over the summer in June and we were gone for three and a half weeks I took a June vacation it's awesome with my family it's amazing never happened in my entire life but we did it cheap we we did the train we ate like baguettes and cheese on the side of the road totally like so we did it for under 10 grand for all four of us for like almost a month um but my kids traveled really well together but something that I can tell you is that there's no urgency to feed you get you in and out of a restaurant or give you a bill in Europe why is that because they do not care your time exactly at all so you could go out for dinner in which you just wanted to hurry up and have a quick bite to eat you're going to be there for two hours because there is no urgency no one cares to get you your food no one cares to get you in there you are not going to get a water you are not GNA get the things that you ask for there was one exactly one time where we were on a time crunch and this guy definitely seemed to be American and I was like look we have 35 minutes to throw down piece of pizza and a drink and get out of here because we've got Museum passes and he's like heard Chef I got you 100% And he was like bing bang boom and like thankfully the restaurant was quiet and we were outside it was like a pizza place that it was like fire in fire out perfect and so we were in and out and my kids were like we're not gonna make it you're gonna make us late and then we're gonna have to wait longer I was like shut eat your pizza fire that thing down right exactly but the guy like literally heard me other than that we no one cared what schedule you are on so I feel like this is what the practice would be here all of the time because you've got servers that have no care to get you the best experience you're going to have when you dine out why do they not care because they're making $15 an hour this is a job and that's all this is yep and they can get another one so this is also going to be a problem for restaurant owners retaining staff exactly because if you're not doing any sort of extra anything for them they're not going to stay so you've so we've got no staff we've got staff that doesn't care anymore it's it I feel like it's a recipe for disaster it is you're gonna see m mom and pop places go out of business you're gonna see you know the Chipotle and all the you know giant chains just they're GNA be the only ones left standing yeah because you know there's three peers to this whole thing and you know um one of the big ones for like the restaurant owners is that it's going to up to probably $18,000 per server in Bender a year right per you know I mean that's a lot of money the margins are so thin already in the restaurant Biz right for that to Happ you're G to be buying a you know your pizza is going to cost you 35 bucks yeah well that's exactly it Cindy yes people can still tip on top of that but if you're spending um $100 to go out for pizza and two beers you're not there's nothing left there for you that's not sustainable for a business model at all what's up Don from the West Coast post uh I love your new license plate NWA amazing like really I'm so jealous um Dan says you lose the quality of service absolutely what's up Tom um Holly nice for uh thank you for joining us and Michael says what does he say if you take the tipping out the service industry is dead tipping was always a better service exactly it's like the Walmart cashier getting paid no matter what you do or don't do for your shift former restaurant worker I will never have a job in that field again yeah right Nation women's Association God no we people won't work in service they will not choose that the number one job in the United States right now is retail and the amount of jobs quit every day number one job retail because it's terrible yes and we are going to make the service industry that it will not be service industry it will just be another it'll be a food industry right yes period that's a great way to yeah period it's it no one will want to do service there is nothing in it for them to work harder move up or even develop regulars or develop a clientele that they know that they can earn a living wage from and people GNA stop going it's gonna be just too damn expensive for them you know I mean it's it's that afterwork drink that you know maybe have one you know you're not going to do you're going to meet a friend at your house and I do understand that things do need to happen and I do understand that there needs to be growth in every industry sure but I I don't see this happening for the better I feel like we'll have more ghost kitchens and more takeout and less people employed period right um is really what I see this Less jobs and I and we're facing an uptick in our unemployment I just really think that this is a bad idea especially for jobs and workers and we do get those seasonal workers that come here and we will lose that economy alog together and I think that that's what makes Cape cot a stronger economy is when we have that especially For Tourists what is the the incentive to bring them here if they know that they're just going to sit and rot they'll go to the grocery store and sit on a beach yeah there's no reason for them to go out to eat whatsoever it won't be an experience for them it'll just be like we're going to the beach like camping now I can make 5 $100 a day watching pets well good for you she was the director of operations and that's not even a thing anymore yeah you know what a lot of people are leaving service well because people are terrible that's that's a whole another day that's a different day for Pat and I we've been on here an hour already vote no please on question five and uh hopefully Pat will be joining us for a little bit more stuff here at lemon8 I'd love to see K Vibes like just yeah let's do it take a showell make
