bother me cheers happy Sunday funay we'll just wait you know sip my beer while I wait for people to hop on our live cheers Dave cheers to you happy Veterans Day thank you for your you I appreciate that course um we are here at knockabout for our Sunday Funday live and you and I have tried to have this conversation I think several times but you know the internet has not decided to work for us and of course today earlier this morning there was some pole that hit somewhere in Mash B and I was like oh what no interet of course maybe you should just stop doing this we should stop setting these up maybe that's the issue seriously so we are here right now we're are paying it forward and we've got a nice little board over here Tada where you can buy a beer for a veteran and I wanted to do something for veterans daily you know what I mean you had a tough day we're right by the base um and maybe you just need a beer so it's here for you you can have one anytime you want not just for Veterans Day and you can always buy one and leave one one here so thank you to our vets all the time here at knockabout just a little something uh but Dave and I have been talking for a while uh we wanted to do a cold plunge here it didn't amount to it because life gets in the way I wanted to watch I'm fascinated by it moral support so please talk to me a little bit about um Cape Cod cold and what you guys do and definitely follow their organization you had a nice dip this morning I did I was at Oregon beach in kuit um for Sunrise which is like right now the way the sun's coming up it's the perfect spot is the perfect spot and it's nice and quiet um there's no parking if you go all the way to the end of uh end of Main Street there um but it is the spot to see Sunrise um at this time of the year just because of the angle of the Sun so talk to me a little bit about the process that you went through this morning because I'm super curious It's Cold plunging for me is very meditative and I think if you talk to most uh serious cold plungers um we get to a point where it's not the the dash and splash right because then you're you know this heightened State well yeah everybody participates in the Polar Plunge where you bop in and you bop out and you're like all right I'm good this is not that and I did one of those a few years ago um down in hyanis and and I saw everybody running in and even then I had I hadn't really gotten myself fully into the whole cold plunge for for therapy and mental health reasons but um I I was out there and once I was out there I just wanted to be out there yeah I I was in a rush to to get out and for me when I do these plunges it it is I typically do a set of breathing exercises before so I I downregulate fully um I'm in a really good space mentally and so when I walk I literally walk into the water and that's something that people have a hard time wrapping their heads around if if you know if it was me I would just run in and run out but no I I literally walk in and I just slowly immerse myself usually up to the neck and then I'm in there for depending on the temperature the water three to five minutes if it's you know like this time of the year I can usually stay in for 10 and that's something you work up to it's not like you're like I'm gonna go sitting there for 20 minutes that's not it no no no no that was not me at all I mean you know typically you hear um you know usually starts with a cold shower um if you can end your showers you know with even 15 seconds 30 seconds of of just fully cold you got to warm up to this and then you know every few days just increase the time in the cold shower and and I'll be honest cold showers are awful yeah they are not my favorite but sometimes that's all you can get um but it does it it it still has the same effect it really resets me it clears your mind imag the when I you know as hard as it to get in the water get there and you know the process of actually going to a different location um you know it's a process but I never regret after I'm done what are some of the benefits that you get for doing this it's not just like wow I did this it you're so many good Body Benefits oh there I mean there's so much research now really exciting research coming out I mean across the globe not just here um you know I mean if you think about it this has been a practice practice that's been going on for centuries um especially in Scandinavian countries where they you know they have cold water almost year round um but you know just on a very fundamental level when what I feel when I get out of the cold water is complete Clarity it clears my head um you know if I've had a a bad day or a rough week whenever I go to the water yeah um when I'm out I feel better I feel reset yeah um you know and you know there are some very also a teacher by the way who I think uh needs to be reset often given this current climate of our lives right now sixth grade math is requires reset put me in the cold water again I should just Plunge in my in my classroom boys and girls I'll need a moment hold I'll be right back you do problem number 17 I'll be in here um no when I when I I mean the immediate benefits you know reduced inflammation um increase metabolism you know which you know a lot of people I mean that's a big thing for a lot of people and it does mine's a sale right now I'm working on that it it gets your system up and it resets um but there are so many other benefits there's a lot of research coming out on mental health benefits um in terms of you know cold water therapy and even contrast therapy between hot and cold um in concert with traditional you know medicines and other traditional therapies um it's it's shown to be very very Su I think now more than ever people have been very receptive to Alternative therapies just because of the way that we've seen how big Pharma for sure has happened and I think people are like wait a minute I can choose better Wellness for myself that's an option I think this is new for us yeah and you bring that up and it and I haven't thought about this in a while but one of the best things if you remember the Biggest Loser yeah one of my favorite Parts was realizing that or or seeing not only that you know these people were losing tons of weight and they were feeling better about themselves and you know their mental state was their much better head space but they were to drop medicines that they've been on forever that's exactly it and that's exactly what I think you're saying and you're right it it is it is a choice that um it's a tough choice to make yeah and you know before if if you have know nothing about the benefits of cold exposure um it's hard to understand um which is why I say you got to try it yeah um you know Michelle Jordan who's a friend of ours cheers to her service Michelle if you're watching um she tried it with me and you know I took her out at a good timing year it was the water was about 55 so it was bearable it was cold I do not suggest that you decide to go and do this I definitely suggest that you find other people that have done this professionals friends other people that have acclimated themselves to this do not just go running out there dipping yourself no and and don't swim alone I mean I do but I don't swim I'm not submerged uh you know for more than a few seconds ever um but we do have a nice group um K Cod cold is uh is my Instagram but you know we're trying to schedule some more dips so we can put that out there and get this community going because I know there are a lot of people who would benefit obviously um and there I know there are other cold Dippers around the cape but we've just never met there's a handful of us and sandwich that meet at the boardwalk um even now that it's sort of fenced off there's a way we can still get into the water can't jump off the boardwalk um anymore but you know that's typically where we meet but like I said I was at cou this morning there are other spots that are great for for plunging and as much as I sometimes need to be alone it's it's great to have a community oh totally and there's a group up in Marblehead um sort of my who I aspire to I want to grow Cape Cod cold um like the wolf pack has grown up there it started a few years ago during Co um or right after Co with just a few people and I think they had upwards of 60 people on Friday well and luckily we don't have a shortage of cold water that surrounds us and there's plenty of space to Branch out so if you do need your your meditative area like mind business Flo on float on that's right um but you know just having a community in anything it doesn't have to be cold water but there's power in that yeah for sure for sure definitely a breath of fresh air with a little bit of mental health a little bit of Wellness um and we want our vets to know that this is definitely a situation that is being looked at in depth more carefully uh as a therapeutic modality and I really love that we're having this conversation right now uh it's given that it's veterans weekend but we thank our veterans all of the time and I know that that is just so much to unhack why we have organizations like heroes in transition we've got our veterans Outreach we've got so many great organizations here on the cape so if you're watching this right now and you're struggling for services or struggling to keep your mental sanity in check or struggling with anybody things or mental health anything please reach out there are people here for you and there are therapeutic ways to go about doing things and you're not alone definitely not alone so we're here at knockabout we're going to be here until 1 o'clock Robbie is back behind the bar ready to go he's got beers he's got snacks Foods the horrible Patriots are done so feel free to leave your house we don't have to watch them anymore it's over again talk about needing a beer I know we're GNA need some several ones and if you're a vet watching and you want a beer on us please just grab a tag from the wall and give it to Robbie and he will pour you a beer if you want to buy some for our veterans that are local we can do this at any point in the day any day here at knockabout have a great Sunday funay cheers Dave cheers thanks for having me Stephanie tell everybody how to find you if they want to get more involved Cape Cod cold on Instagram um that's probably the best way right now shoot me a DM if you're interested in joining uh for a plunge anytime uh we'll we'll make something happen and you will not regret it so excited I've got saraphina on the show tomorrow morning back in the studio we'll start around 7:30 we have such a good time we'll talk about some fun organizations some female forward organizations and activities that are happening through the cape and also our Christmas markets are going to be happening in the mashby Commons knockabout has a Beer Garden in the mashby Commons and every single week it's going to be a different theme we've got entertainment we've got local makers great unique gift ideas for people we've going to have a tent with local authors I think five or six different local authors every single week that are going to be there to sell you their books sign their books you'll get to learn more about what it is that they do the art Alliance will be joining us I mean it's just a really good creative space and uh we've got all of the blowups wait until you see this Christmas Wonderland that we are bringing to you Cap Cod Photo Bus is going to be there to take some photos so it's just going to be a really magical space in the mashby Commons that we're looking forward to so we will see you it is uh this season next week here at knockabout we are going to be having hopefully a couple of local Foodies that are going to be repurposing some leftovers and making some plans for your Thanksgiving before it happens I know I really we're going to be sharing some good fun recipes that you can do with all the what I feel like ends up being just Thanksgiving mush I feel like why is everything Mash repurposing Le I love it repurposing wood where you doing all that that's great we need to make something new out of the stuff that you're going to have in your fridge that you're like what the hell am I going to do with this food is if we need to use what we've got so we'll have some fun with that cheers and have a great week everybody thanks bye
