saraphina and I were in a entrepreneurial book club where Stephanie never read the right book and Stephanie was terrible at this book I really suck at book club I did not fabulous I'm what I just had him he looked like a golden girl so now we lovingly refer to him as blanch around the house that's like in a left he he doesn't care he got this like special powder to like fluff it up now now it's Susan thanks for joining us on the show this morning I'm like on fumes today I ended up uh filling in for JT yesterday because it was a rain day on Monday right to do field day for the dentist chamber and I got to hang out and they did a P eating competition very fun I've never narrated a pie eating competition how does one narrated in they go carefully yeah absolutely and two minutes is a really long time to watch people have their face in a pie really long covered in blueberries shout out to the Merc who did a great job making those pies I actually felt bad I the grown-ups were like got the big pie the little kids got like the smaller one yeah but uh it was cute but I I was out there in the field I was getting eaten alive by black flies I was like oh my it's all of a sudden very buggy again isn't it well and also I was talking to Chris here at Mash PTV and he's like haven't seen a mosquito All Season the minute they talk about Eastern inin and seus now we've got now we've got mosquitoes so I'm like oh my God yep yay we're so lucky hey Ryan Walter we love this new studio too so we're here on Thursdays um as until they say no more at mashby TV H Nate has joined us in the studio he's back for another season for sees which I hear the enrollment was so crazy that they had to close enrollment really that's fabulous fabulous but then of course it begins where you're reading the pot stirring posts that people have on social media things they tax dollars we just be happy that people are getting an education for far less than we ever could and making that accessible for more people um right and it's better for all of us to more educated people one would think yeah by judging by the comments of people who don't appear to be that educated whatever I'm like so exhausted of it I might I'm gonna take a digital detox I'm gonna be one of those people that says it and then disappears on Facebook for a week and then all of a sudden you see them creeping back because they have nothing else going on in their life right they've missed it so no I can't afford a digital detox with this brand absolutely not so back to school how did everybody survive yesterday did you have like your fabulous cherubs jump back in and say wow we had a great day Mom or groans sandwich doesn't go back till next week so yeah you know Mariana hasn't hasn't started yet hey Nate can you see can you unplug and replug in that camera I don't know whether it's a battery issue or what but we're still here folks I know this that bottom part right there like unplug it and replug it back in or it might just be the camera in general I don't know you can hear us but you can't see us yeah that's fine it might just be that way all right you mased Amhurst tuition uh this year is $40,000 $40,000 that is insane that's criminal version of lemon today yeah right see it it's not so much the tuition it's not so much the um the expenses the books and everything else it's the room and board that really runs up that really runs up the tab yeah so if you can afford to stay at home and go to school that's where the real savings is going to be which is why a place like for Seas is is great because there's no oncampus living or anything like that right you know be off be off campus and and hopefully hopefully save save money that way well regardless um they're back to school um daughter oh it's because of the battery that's the problem awesome we didn't check this prior to which is wonderful right so so when does when does um Lil go back to school um I thought it was yesterday no she doesn't go back until Saturday nothing like driving into the city on a Saturday that should be nice and fun and easy right absolutely at least she has got um like a lot of freshman activities and stuff planned so um they have them pretty scheduled and uh she's ready she's ready she's got to go she's like what does they say about guests three days after they're rotten or something like that she's had a lifetime she's got to go say they're welcome yes and she's been there for how long yeah right we're good we're full years now 18 19 years that's a long time gift well it was really funny because she kind of busted um another Salem State kid is apparently um the there was a restaurant worker or um owner rather that was at trivia last night and they were like oh our student went to St Sal and state and they left last week and I was like oh oh sorry bet they have an off campus apartment or well yeah they're they're a senior so I think it's a little bit different at that point oh my goodness folks what we're almost back I think we got it back almost I changed the battery um I don't know what's going on exactly with the mode but I'm working on it all right just just bear with us folks we'll continue to be entertaining yeah right I always hold this camera for you guys there you well I think that um Hank you got a you got a phone call from heaven today did you phone call from heaven today I was walking in this morning um holding my phone not pushing a button not doing anything and my phone started to ring and it was my mother now my mother's been gone for six years and every now and then I could have the phone which is next to me now on the other side of the studio and it will ring and it will be my mother's number and it will say nana and sometimes it happens at the darnest times when it seems like something's G going on and she's and she's attempting to chip in or sometimes it happens randomly maybe she's watching this morning I don't know but I'm one of those people I've never been able to take my mother or my father's phone number out of my phone and I just kind of leave it there and my dad never but my dad was never much for being on the phone anyway so but my mother will several multiple times a year she will she will just all of a sudden sudden call out of nowhere and then we wonder what's going on or what the message is or I don't I don't do you think something's going on like honestly I always think that there's a purpose when things like that happen so I'm like maybe there's a message for you HK I don't know there has been a huge uptick in psychic shows throughout the cape I'm very curious what people are searching for I don't know why they keep selling out everywhere like people just want to know what's going on and fact that it's not real it's not real oh boy and the money for this conversation is very low to me it was like 1.6 million pounds maybe it was billion I don't know I couldn't it was the story came out of the daily mail and I just know that it it hasn't really broken in the town of Sandwich quite yet it will but it will like we're talking a different name a different last name right and this was a well-loved restaurant very very shady little bit of crazy crime there also another crazy crime well not crime really um but it centers around real estate and sandwich yes you see the couple that is trying to sell their 1 $3 million home because they can't because of pickle they don't have the realtor pickle ball once again they don't have the right realtor that's all that's their problem the endless racket is what they're referring to this pickle ball problem as now get the right realtor folks I have I have a suggestion just call us I I know somebody Ashley says she's got a bridge for sale on the Everglades real cheap yeah I can't think of I don't know what what would be the pitch to buy a house in Bulgaria it's an investment opportunity you can go and retire look at all these beautiful places there in Bulgaria yeah the Black Sea okay I mean I would think somebody somebody offered me property in Italy and said okay a lot of people retire to Italy well maybe that's it it's get on the ground floor of this investment nice and cheap and your money can stretch and you know when you're in a fixed income you want to have like the most amazing time you could possibly have you'd call it an Irish wake yeah because he was he was gonna be there and he wanted to say goodbye to everybody and um so I guess they I guess they did that but yeah that was a that was that was a shock even though you know everyone knew he wasn't doing well just one of those one of those people that when you you think of Cape Cod and it's one of those names that that you just always is that why they're fighting to get happy hour back in the name of John Morgan they're trying to bring it back to the state of Massachusetts because that's what we need why Massachusetts doesn't allow happy hours makes no sense I don't know why they took it away makes no sense with our reputation right well they had to give us rules right but if there's one place you would think there would be a happy hour you would think Massachusetts of course right well bud light's trying to bring it back from their recent Scandal and they are desperate to get their numbers back to where they feel like they should be and so they're doing this limited edition football mood lights really so they're starting with all the college teams and all the college logos uh and then they're going to go on to the NFL and start dropping their NFL specific different cans and whatnot just to see if that will drum up some publicity to sell these cans I think well college football is back this weekend right yes a lot uh we appreciate them uh letting us use their studio today even though we're using just crappy cameras from my computer because somebody didn't check the battery life not me I just show up I'm the I'm is a nightmare right then my daughter's stuff is all into the living room because she doesn't want to bring it upstairs to bring it back downstairs bring it downstairs of course all I know is that I have like this much of space that is not full of crap totes junk and I know it's not forever and I know I'm gonna miss her when she's gone but I I need to miss her I'm really looking forward to missing her and how much you think she's going to miss when do you think the first phone call is going to come she'll be fine she'll be fine for like a couple of weeks yeah it'll be like week two when she realizes she's like this is it this is her existence right that uh I think really left now yeah she'll crank it up either that or she'll just you know assimilate and make friends right and my office MH when she comes home or we could just get a new property we're looking forward to that well that's true as well we were trying to do that we looking if anybody knows of any um commercial Tuesday and she doesn't know where any or she or she keeps saying I don't know where this is I don't know where that is well she's got to learn I bet she does that's like the people that when we set up karaoke and they're like I I don't know the words they're right in front of you right you're you came to karaoke you're gonna be fine I don't other words why did you sign up it's gonna be right in front of you why do you want to sing the way the worst part of waking up is Amazon blocking your coffee cup I Like That Ashley I like that a lot very good very good but facts also facts so Cody had um 20 minutes of his photography class yesterday before he asked to leave it why he's done he's switching out of it he doesn't like it no he goes I really felt bad for the teacher it wasn't the teacher's fault I just didn't want any part of this class to be like a fun class though that's what I thought I was like you're really good at taking pictures and I thought maybe you might want to dig this class but uh yeah right Sports Photography no he didn't want it he's taking culinary too he'd rather cook things he'd rather bake a cake no plutonium well you know what they say there's always girls in that class what andin oh culinary you think he's there for the girls I don't even know he's too into his own hair I don't know maybe he can hand out you know suggestions I'm fine the boy needs to learn how to cook because I'm sick of him trying to mom will you cook that he's afraid MH so maybe that's why he wants to take the classes to get unafraid right he's just the the stove is scary to him yeah and so unless it's in the air fryer or the toaster he's not having it well you you and Cliff pretty much work every night so supper time he's kind of if he wants SE supper time is at 4 pm or 10 p.m. those are your choice those are your choices because we work at dinner time right so we have like early birds special or we're having late night we're about to and lay down which is also not healthy that's not good 4:00 four o00 is probably too early well now it is for him because he's got football so I'm packing him lots of snacks but uh I I thank you very much to Kristen uh CJ's mom who dropped him off yesterday while we were both working and uh apparently CJ came in and Cody hid two of those empanadas I made oh really for CJ so he goes mom CJ dropped me off walked into the house took the two epid put him in the microwave warmed him up and then left left I love that kid I absolutely I was like well his mom drove you home so right definitely makes me laugh those kids are a riot and if you ever want to see them in action you can stop by our Farmers Market which is every single Sunday in the mash B Commons we're right across from the library and uh you'll see our our teenage football team at work doing the heavy lifting for us really wearing silly outfits I got them pickles for Pickle Fest coming up they love it no they don't actually don't the last time Emily was there she ended up wearing the shark and the chicken outfit for us so we appreciate it yeah they weren't interested no they were over it they feel like now that they've been uh setting up tents and lifting all the heavy stuff for all of our vendors who are exhausted it's this time of season where we're really starting to struggle I'm looking forward to the Harvest a little bit yep I know everybody's Garden is bananas right now we've got corn and we've got all kinds of great stuff pumpkins are on the rise uh we're going to be having apples shortly I know Tony Andrews is like guys don't be mad at me but this is what's ready at the farm so we got to go with the seasons I still have pumpkins growing all over my house I have no idea if I'm going to actually have one yes yay I have their flowers I should be making food with the flowers but I'm not don't make pumpkin stuff now it's too really for pumpkin St I know supper for me was take it or leave it that's how everybody's was really right my parents were were my dad was exhausted my dad was in charge of it at 5:00 pm he's like scrambled eggs or cereal what do you want what do you want it's like uh nothing wrong with breakfast to dinner going to be a total rain out right nothing like a Monday storm because most of the vendors have their own tents anyway yeah yep it should be fine we're working on our Christmas Market as well and we've got over 50 vendors already we had a 100 applications it's been yeah it's it's been crazy so I think people are excited for the season and excited to see what's going to happen here and the Christmas Market starts when um November 24th Thanksgiving is so late this year is it it's like the 28th it's really it's very late oh it's like right after my grandma's 9th a your grandma's turning 90 that's pretty incredible I was just looking at the list of longevity and United States is still in middle of the pack as far as life expectancy right it's not great no and then uh Eva yesterday sent me this three-hour long podcast about all the why American women are dying and why this that I don't know whether it's propaganda I don't know what it is but I need to sit and I don't have a spare three hours to watch something I was like is this an infomercial or is this is this real is this science or is this BS right I don't know what's real anymore oh yeah you can't tell if it's if it's real if if they're heading towards convincing you to buy a product or they're just making stuff up does anybody have a way to decipher what is real and anymore i' seen a funny video you know how they have all the Nate says he saw a funny video about prescriptions that says try a brain it's like one of those stupid ads where it's like yeah I don't get this and it may cause because you'll watch 10 minutes of something and then you'll realize oh my God this is an infomercial right this is all a lie right because they make it look legit you know they they used to they used to make it look like the um um the set of the Larry King show yeah and you think okay this is legit this is a news interview or whatever and then you realize no like what what happened to like truth in like tell me just tell me this is a product that I'm endorsing because I like it or this is something that someone's paying me to talk about but I can't get 10 minutes into a story and I'm like wow this might be real woods deal with this I'm not ready for this political season at all all I'm over it in fact I think most of us are and has it it just started yeah but people will be able to calm down now the vice president is going to do an interview so people can find something else to waste their time complaining about I know they'll move on to something else they'll go back to talking about how they don't like the way she laughs right I mean it's like find something to talk about that's real please please oh my God well we're here at Mash BTV and they are definitely wanting you to like And subscribe to their YouTube channel they put out a lot of information that is real information you don't have to worry is it a commercial it's not a commercial it's actually what's happening in the town and um jam said had put earlier local access for the win and it really is it's the only way that you can connect with your community and really find out what's truly going on I feel like and uh you can do so by listening to your to your local channels I think think about I mean you you you remember when when all this first started local Access TV how everyone was like oh that's a joke and isn't that cute and everything else and look at what it's look at this I this is an honest to God TV studio when they started when people started doing local Access TV what maybe 25 years ago yeah this was they didn't even think that they could do something like this well Ado is above my dentist office yes oh adoro had thinks it's thinks it's a a major Network you're right you know at least they did anyway I'm sure they still do they they great set up in Alor but it's nice that every little town does now uh Linda says totally agree with Hank driving me nuts now and we have a way to go I know it's going to be long it's going to be a while before we are done with the Pol the political season so I'm kind of over it there was a situation um a lot of people are going and getting their last minute concerts in now that it's just us probably excited to go and be out in public and uh there was a Scotty McCreary concert and somebody there was a gentleman that assaulted a woman in the audience and so Scotty McCary stopped the show yeah called in for security yeah and removed wow all of it a right wow can you imagine ever being in a place no where you would ever strike another human being no like regardless if you knew them or not like right why would you do that I we have lost Humanity I feel like sometimes I think we forget that this is real life right and like there is a tomorrow and you can't just like reset your video game no and have three more lives I didn't mean to do that I'm like there is definitely a disconnect going on with our digital lives and our our human lives that I think that people are getting separated from and I think it's just a gentle reminder right it's real we don't strike people I mean given that given that performers they have all those lights in their face so it's hard for them to see it has to be really bad if he had to see second row I mean yeah it must have been really bad if he could have seen it Mortal Combat this real life I've never oh yeah usually the shows that I've been to most people are Cooperative helpful if somebody's lost or can't whatever like if somebody's had too much to drink they're helping people usually it's a helpful atmosphere at shows so maybe it was was maybe people pointed out to this situation that was going on I don't know whether it was a domestic or whether it was a fight country country fans of country music when they get together to do shows they do have a reputation of being Rowdy a little Rowdy I mean if you ask if you ask the the the police officers up at the stadium what's their worst crowd to De with a football crowd of this crowd of that crowd they always say it's the country crowd well all of our friends that were at Country fast last weekend and Kenny chzn I know for a fact you guys have vibed quite a bit yes there are a lot of our friends that do uh transport whether buses uh limousines and whatnot you were working overtime last weekend to make sure that all of our our Cap Cod people got home safe and sound so we appreciate you for that but there'll be no more Jimmy buffer concerts yeah well can they get their act together over at the Jimmy Buffett place I mean two of my events have been cancelled because margarita is not ready to be unveiled it's not done I don't know what's happening I mean I don't what did they what did they have to do they had to repaint the outside I'm sure they had to update all the rooms the rooms desperately needed an update anyway yeah period that was no question if anyone had ever spent any time in there to go to the wave pool or whatever and make a night of it and just do a station you know that those rooms desperately needed the update but uh it's definitely taking a lot longer than they had planned and uh they they've got to be losing their shirt at this point because they're losing Revenue because they're probably discovering things much like the Daniel Webster Restaurant and sandwich they had a small little electrical fire and then when they got in there whoopsies they realized oh oh oh things are bad and that still isn't that still isn't open yet and that's a lot of people cancelling vacation that's a lot of people out of jobs Robert says tomorrow is Jimmy Buffett day so is it aopo that we were speaking about this yes I just think people are gonna be so disappointed when they come from someplace else to go to bargarita Ville in hyas just finish it seen there are people that are losing their wedding deposits they had to put a tent I guess in the middle oh really and offer people like just a place to still have their wedding I mean you know what an expensive business the wedding business is and how K Cod is like this is one of our bread and butters this is one of our big spaces and um they're losing deposit I guess they've had to like let people just have their weddings in a tent in the backyard and and store them basically in the rooms that they have done well we know all about that the venue where we were holding our wedding reception 35 years ago closed six weeks before what did you go what did you do well there were three people in my office was it an accident or oh no oh no they they they they shut down the business oh we didn't get out of deposit back um I called three people in my office we all getting married at the same time and so we all went to the same um invitation vendor because we got a we got a deal on yeah and I got our invitations and I called Mari and I said honey I got our invitations they look so great and she said the place just closed it was the plazer in on on on Route One so we started looking Mari started looking around and looking around and her dad was in the restaurant business and people were laughing at her when she'd call because they were six weeks out we were six weeks out and and people were saying to her what are you crazy what reception six weeks out but we were able to get in to the Lafayette House okay and that's where we had our reception and luchano if you're familiar with one and and the stadium and everything luchano is not at the plazer in which was the place that closed where we couldn't have our wedding reception but luchano was the head chef at layette house oh wow and he felt sorry for us well I mean care us Ricky said that uh he did a wedding at the Margaritaville two months ago and the bride was not happy I would imagine well I mean people spend a ton of money yes I mean sometimes down payments for homes sometimes the cost of a home I saw somebody fairly recently that had $200,000 they sunk into their wedding can you imagine can you imagine spending a quarter of a million dollars on a wedding no no we can't unless you go to the chat of barzen and you hire El John but that's a whole different category that's that's just a different kind of human than I am um John says just go to the beach that's where cliff and I got married we got married on Gay's Beach it was great we ended up renting out the island Queen and just had our own little fake boo Cruise it was great my family showed up in a short bus MH there you go it's where they belong and uh we had a great time doing donuts around Falmouth Harbor it was an absolute blast we had a great time and we didn't need to spend ridiculous amounts of money on it right we just had a great time with our friends and family don't need to go extravagant but I mean I get it some people really want that experience right some people have that dream of their Cinderella white princess I get I get it but you're going to pay for it and I feel like my daughter's age bracket of people are very pragmatic yes um they're very judicious with the way that they spend their money they're very they don't like frivolity uh but if they do it's like just in weird spots right uh she spends money on the dumbest things and then all it's like no I'm not going to spend money I'm like but that's that's an important thing to spend money on right so I don't know well you know you're not gonna have to worry about pay for a big wedding maybe a Jamaican horn I can't DJ Cindy with a Jamaican horn yes she's available Cindy is ready to DJ your next wedding whether it's a second wedding an elopement or you want the big pomp in circumstance why not you want to party party with the DJ in the we say yes Al a lot of people do go out get married and then there's a party after right ex that's exactly what we did because I didn't want to deal with all of that we had a small dinner over at the yarmin yeah with like our immediate friends and family and then we had like the big party afterwards because I just didn't want to deal with all of that yeah in that day I wanted that day to just be for us Ashley says if I ever get married again it'll be a Dunkin Donuts if one closes there are plenty more how very frugal of you list you won't be disappointed in the food because it's the same no matter where you go and Cindy said I got married in my mom's living room excellent you can't close that down no no you can't close that that that's right that's right and people do backyard weddings and if you have a big enough had a big enough yard and there's all kinds of yeah I've got I'm booked for two backyard weddings that are coming up in um the fall and I think it's just a nice quiet good way to get together right you just want to get together with your friends and your family it doesn't need to be a gazillion dollars Mari says hello oh how are things in Dallas today what's the temperature today I hope your flight home is better than your flight there yeah let's hope that's all I can ask for you for those of you who didn't hear the story on Tuesday um mari's flight didn't take off on time because they had a little problem with one of the doors I'm sorry when they're clo like get off the plane we got to work on making sure your door can close doesn't make you feel great about getting on a plan even let them off plan while they fix the door we're going to let everybody off go have a little snack did they make you go through security that whole thing again Mari that's a nightmare yeah I don't think they did I I think they just allowed them to walk around and which I suppose kept people from getting angry about sitting there and I guess they didn't want people to see what they were doing to fix the door yeah well I'm looking to some fall new television very much need need something new in my life however apparently Michael kon's Widow really is very upset there's a new reboot of er it's Noah wy's ER I don't know what it's going to look like uh but she is suing to stop it because they didn't get permission makesense oh I don't know if he has to allow the permissions I don't really understand how the story is written I don't get any of that licensing stuff it's not my perview you would think it would be the property of the network starter who jacobe Brett I'm stunned jacobe BR that's gonna be our that that's what it was gonna be six months ago who knew it was gonna be six months ago they just didn't want to deal with our drama so I didn't tell anybody he's an older player he's not the rookie that picture how did he look from the grave Mari he actually did look just like H have he looked and and he looked like he had popped up from the grave I don't know if I can I love the look I don't and um some of her friends were going out to dinner and she said they might go to Gil's house oh my God randomly he came with a bunch of girls apparently there's an x-rated conference that's going on at the highest oh really and I didn't go this year Mar I'll meet you at the bar you're kidding I mean I I know there are a couple of Realtors who go to these conventions and they just kind of goofy and that's kind of their that's kind of their thing but oh jeez that's that is amazing there's got to be way more stories you better H we we're going out for drinks when you get home because I got we week oh the brewery okay I had to trade her but we ended up with Katie Brown and Katie Brown was really amazing okay bod Corona is gonna be joining us um I put the list of our entertainment for the month of September um Matt LC is coming oh Matt LC which I forgot that he is on the Barnstable town council did you see the big um to do with what's happening at the mall apparently we're going to get a real life theater Bill Haney is uh putting taking over the movie theater and putting in a live theater so they're working on getting real actual Productions wow so so so no more movie theater so there'll be a movie theater in there but there'll also be an actual theater in there and it's going to be an IMAX like it's going to like the way it sounds is pretty amazing so I'm looking forward to that and it might be sooner rather than later we might start seeing some actual shows and movies come December wow they're going to try and get some stuff I mean the Live Theater portion is going to have to wait because they're you know that that mall is is I want to say one of the few but a lot of malls are just are just dying that mall is one that a lot of people said okay it's done it's over 10 Pinery went in there and everyone went that'll never work and it blew the roof off the place y it's it's fabulous yep it's great and Robin will be there tonight with a little bit of trivia uh from
